well said about the definition of queer baiting. real people can't queerbait by just living their lives. looking at that original ask, is the logic behind saying harry is queerbaiting that he only ever dates women? do you know everyone he's ever dated, wanted to date, or had sex with? has he told you? if he hasn't, good! it's invasive to ask about that, and it's weird that you'd base your opinion of someone on having full access to their thoughts and feelings. plus, bigger issue: people can STILL BE QUEER and date people of a different gender. queer people do not owe you visibility. queerness does not only matter when its expression is "gay" to you. he can be queer and still date women. if the entire rationale behind your opinion of "harry is queerbaiting" comes down to your personal assessment of harry's dating history (which you are NOT entitled to), you need to reevaluate that opinion. i'm not saying that he doesn't queerbait, but that's not the reason you should argue for it. that is a really weird and parasocial mindset. marketing is a more complicated conversation.
People are absolutely obsessed with his sexuality and unfortunately, I don’t see that changing.
But on the other side of the equation, I saw something on twitter a few days ago that basically said if it turns out that Harry is gay, they will feel so betrayed and used by him. Their reasoning was that if he were gay, no one would be interested in him and if he’s pretending to be straight, he just used all these young girls and women to build his career. I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that there are others who feel the same way.
So it doesn’t matter who he really is, what he says, or what he does. There will always be speculation and criticism.
queerbaiting doesn't imply that you have to tell them you're queer, it's using a particular group of people for profit
I know what queerbaiting is and I think you’re missing my point.
Fun fact: the origin of queerbaiting is in the entertainment industry (books/movies/shows), specifically “the incorporation of apparently gay characters or same-sex relationships into a film, television show, etc. as a means of appealing to gay and bisexual audiences while maintaining ambiguity about the characters' sexuality.” Not individuals, although people have begun to use the term with respect to people.
My point is that it’s dangerous to apply the concept to individuals because not everyone is out. Closeting still exists. Homophobia still exists. People can queer signal and not be out. So a person can be queer and accused of queerbaiting because they haven’t said they’re queer and are therefore assumed to be straight.
This article explains it better than I can.

This is my opinion on the subject and I’m not here to convince anyone else. If you feel that Harry is straight and queerbaiting for his own gain, then that’s your opinion. But I don’t know why anyone would be a fan if that’s what they thought of him.
what makes it so sure that Harry Styles is not queerbaiting, he seems to lean on this non gender as an excuse but all he ever does is date women back to back and is always madly in l9ve with them
People can believe what they want.
Personally, I don’t like the concept of queerbaiting because it implies that in order for someone to be queer, they have to tell the world that they are. Nobody is required to share their labels (or lack of) and if people could just be who they are without others having to judge how authentic they are, the world would be a better place.
