The newest chick isnt doing well so I put it in the incubator. Difficult hatch coupled with the moms deciding to move from the nest now that other chicks are mobile = cold baby. We'll see how it is in the morning.

Rant or whatever to follow. On mobile, so can't put it under a cut. You're warned
I wasn't going to say anything for fear of jinxing myself, but I can see the mushroom cloud in the distance at this point anyway so fuck it.
I finally found a house with property I loved, managed to find the listing and see it same day. 10 acres, already fenced horse farm, flat, clear, everything full sun. Good doublewide house that only needed minor updates. Zoned farm. Same distance to work as now. Literally checked every box. Price was a little high but manageable. We're talking $158k. I'm not rich, ok? I managed to scrape up enough cash for a downpayment by being able to live with family for a while and pay them cheap rent. I get that's a perk not a lot of people have. I get it.
Make an offer same day. Its accepted same day. Call about 25 banks trying to find someone who will finance the property and finally find ONE LENDER who will finance a doubewide of the age it is on the amount of land it has with a normal fixed rate mortgage and not some 10yr long balloon rate piece of shit predatory loan. ONE LENDER.
Get them all the documents and shit they ask for as quickly as possible. Get the application accepted. Start the rest of the closing process. Pay for inspections and appraisals and all that bullshit out of pocket. Everyone I encounter in the process says this lender knows what they're doing.
This started in February. Closing was set for April 1st. The day comes then its pushed back a week. They say they're waiting for a form from some mobile home thing idk. That date comes. Still no word. Excuses that this is a new process, sorry it's taking so long, theres nothing we can do.
As of today, April 23rd, there's still no word about closing. The seller wants to move by May, so they've told my agent they're putting the house back on the market at the end of next week if we don't close.
And we wont close. Because the lender says, even so, they dont have a closing date, so sorry that sucks. And because this has always been my luck with every fucking thing to the point where I dont get excited about anything anymore and dont tell people about good things happening because they're always either yanked away in the most glorious explosive fashion or something equally, separately terrible overwhelms the good thing so it doesnt even matter anymore.
So there. I tried. I did everything fucking right and pushed myself to get everything done right even though I'm always depressed and fucking tired and never want to do anything. I did this right, tried harder than I have in a long time and still got fucked over. I'm fucking sick of this shit and I'm not trying again.

I love hellebores. They’re hardy and deer proof, and don’t mind a lot of shade or the super rocky and compacted clay soil here. I don’t want to leave them behind when the house sells, but I’m not sure if they would thrive in the full sun and sandy soil of the shore house.

Some fantastic language with Calathea Zebrina's overt leaf curl. Interesting how this one also curls her new growth, unlike some other plants. I originally thought this was a response to too much light (as many succulents will kinda fold their leaves inward in response to high light) but I now suspect it's an attempt to keep moisture from transpiring through the leaves (ie. she's thirsty).

So many spring lovelies seen on my hike today. While on the three-mile hike, I foraged ramps, violets, and one pheasant-back mushroom. I diced the ramp shoots finely, sliced the mushroom, and sauteed both in some butter. I steeped the violets in some hot water and then made simple syrup.
