CAS Project
For my CAS project i was involved in a start up initiated by a firm in the riviera area of Wheelys which is essentially a sustainable, mobile coffee shop that sells organic coffee and is hoping to compete with Starbucks in order to reduce the externalities caused by Starbucks (e.g. Tax evasion, inequitable commerce)
Moreover, I have decided with the owner that I would bake cupcakes at home and sell them in conjunction with the wheelys as well as Coffee from theindianbean.com which also promoted equitable trade.
Then I designed posters to refer to all the comapanies involved as well as the charity I would be donating to: smilefoundationindia.org
This really interested people and they often didn’t even buy the cupcake but donates anyway.
The total amount of 164.20 CHF was earned from the cupcakes, plus an extra donation amount of 270 CHF. Then in order to make it up to a nice amount in 30000 Rs, my family added 15.80 CHF.

CAS Project
For one of my CAS Projects I was directing the house Play under the title “Frankenstein”. This involved aiding with the writing of the script, overseeing props and backstage as well as bringing together the actors for regular rehearsals.
This was to do with the creativity and service aspect of CAS since it involved creating a play based on Frankenstein while still adding some individuality to the play. It was a service since I volunteered to do this for my community as one of the senior members of the school (second final year).

Final Self Evaluation
The extent to which you have developed personally as a result of your activities
Grown in confidence thanks to Krav Maga, Perseverance due to Piano and social responsibility thanks to my monitor and prefect duties
The understanding, skills and values acquired through the experience
Aquired patience from piano for having to repetitively practice the pieces ad nauseum until they are right, hardened skin from Krav maga from having to practice with people about 3 times my body weight. Perseverance fro monitor and prefect for having to include my duties in my schedule
How others may have benefited from your activities
Piano: entertainment value, might in the future be able to teach it to other people, Krav Maga: can defend other people who might be in a dangerous situation Monitor: helping the school to manage their students
Initiative, planning and organization involved in your CAS experiences
Piano: often had to plan my own lessons as well as include weekly practice in my schedule, Krav Maga: if i was unable to attend the class i have to organize my own practice of the movements as well as exercise, Monitor: have to organize my time to include my duties
The amount of effort and commitment you have displayed
with all my activities I have only missed a session if it was absolutley necessary, as is reflected in my evaluations throughout the course
The degree of personal challenge in your activities
Piano: personally challenging because I struggle with examinations across the board due to anxiety, Krav Maga: I’ve never done a contact sport therefore to adapt to the environment was challenging, Monitor: I can be very short tempered therefore to control my emotions with the younger children was challenging

For this term and the whole of CAS I have done the following things  for each section
 Creativity
Piano, Inter-house Play
Action
Krav Maga Snowboarding
Service
JD Help, Monitor, Prefect
Identified own strengths and  areas for growth
For my  piano in particular, I need to focus more on the technical aspect (aural,  sight-reading, scales)instead of just learning pieces. However, I am good  managing my own practice and am able to learn pieces relatively quickly
I have  to be “unafraid” to hit harder, especially when sparring with men much larger  than me, according to the supervisor, since this will prepare me for a real  life situation. However I am good at remembering the moves and belive that I  would be prepared in this aspect for a real life siutation
I need  to persevere more and perhaps speal more patiently to the younger kids when  telling them what to do. However, I am always at my duties and think that I  interact well with other students and the rest of the perfecting team.
Demonstrated  that challenges have been undertaken,  developing new skills in the process
I  have had to go through an examination which  is a challenge when it involves such a tactile activity since I get  crippiling anxiety in the situation, however by forcing myself through it I’ve  realized its not as bad as I had thought it would be
Given that  I don’t come from a particularly aggressive background, I am not as used to  being hit and hitting as other people might be therefore I’ve had to adapt to  this environment, however through this I’ve been able to advance in my Krav  Maga
I have  been challenged with the most difficult duties in my opinion which is snack  and line duty, since this involves attempting to control children when they  are hungry and is the hardest to keep watch on. However, I have been able to  open a dialogue between the management and the students with regards to the  type of snack and the amount given to reach a mutually beneficial  understanding.
Demonstrated  how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
I have  had to plan my own lessons on the weeks when my teacher was absent.
On the  weeks when I am unable to attend the class I have done my own cardio and static  exercises that we often do as a warm up in the classes.
I am  largely responsible for attending my duties and have to arrange my other responsibilities  around these, including when they fluctuate
Shown  commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I am  committed to piano thus shown by my enduring the examination process and  persevering in managing my time to practice as well as complete my IB.
As far  as it depended on me, I attended every Krav Maga class possible, despite the  heavy influx of homework and other examinations and commitments.
I am  always at my duty and If I persevere for some reason that I will be unable to  do it, which is rare, I always ask my comrade to cover for me, and I will do  one of theirs at a later date.
Demonstrated  the skills and recognised the benefits of working collaboratively
I have  worked collaboratively with my Piano teacher in order to advance as  effectively as possible so that I might sit my exam at a time doesn’t  interfere with my IB exams and responsibilities
I have  to work collaboratively in krav maga in order to spar and practice moves with  another person, while also aiding them practice themselves.
I have  to work collaboratively with the rest of the Prefect/Monitor team in order to  manage all of our duties, occasionally swapping duties so everything remains under  control
Demonstrated  engagement with issues of global significance
The  global importance aspect of creativity, particularly music and theatrical  arts that differ from region to region
The  global importance of self-defense, particularly for women who, in today’s day  and age, must learn to to defend themselves. Krav maga also increases  confidence and therefore encourages people to stand up for their rights
While  working in the JD I saw the global importance of educating children from a  young age, which has the potential to solve a lot of global issues such as  poverty, famine and limit disease.
Recognised and consider the ethics of choices and  actions
Ethical  implications of “testing” a creative activity. How can we judge how well  someone plays something?
Ethical  implication of passing potentially fatal knowledge on to people who have not  been vetted?
Ethical  implications of imposing beliefs on young children…then implicate them  further in life. Even the teachers have a tendency to do this, do they have  the right?

Final Reflection
Since December I have continued with my CAS activities missing only 1 week when I was unable to attend due to my absence from the country.
For my creativity, I have completed the piano exam for grade 4 and have since received the feedback. I have seen that in order to progress more I will have to focus less on my pieces and more on the “supporting” factors which are the aural tests and scales and sight reading. This is more theoretical than expressive which is why I have a tendency to ignore them, but that’s no excuse of course. I think I will continue with my piano even after CAS since I enjoy quite alot, though prehaps I will stop the exams because they give me a lot of anxiety. Instead I will just learn musical pieces for entertainment.
For my action, I have continued with my Krav Maga and during the time that I was unable to attend due to the fact I wasn’t here I was able to continue with the exercises that we use for warm up as well as some cardio. I think I will continue with Krav Maga after CAS or might switch to boxing just to try it and see how different it is.
For my service I did have to take a week out, however I did some thinking on where to donate the money I will collect from my CAS project. Other than that week however, I have continued with my prefecting and now have changed duties to monitoring the lounge and controlling the lunch line which is a new system so there is a learning curve. For my service I do intend to continue contributing as much as possible to my community so I am looking to help at the JD at some point as well as joining a social change group when I go to university.
I have also been finalizing my CAS project which has been hard since we only got the licenses to be able to sell the coffee a few months ago, however we are planning to have an event before the 17th where I will be making cupcakes and masala chai to sell, in keeping with the Indian culture given that I am sending the donation to support education in India. I will be selling my cupcakes at 2.50 CHF each and a cup of tea at 1 CHF each. I am looking to continue supporting this charity because this issue is very close to my heart since I am Indian and have witnessed the consequences of inequity within my country.

20012017
Due to some unforeseen circumstances I have had to take a week break from my CAS activities in order to come to India, however during this week I have had the opportunity to think about my CAS Project, and have decided to instead donate any money I make to a charity called Smile Foundation, which specialises in Child education and women empowerment.
http://www.smilefoundationindia.org/
While Fair commerce is an equally big and important issue, this charity is closer to my heart personally, since I am an Indian.
The main issue that I have witnessed on my trip here is Child Beggars. Due to the existence of the slums, as well as the rampant poverty, many children are left as orphaned. They are then open to be taken advantage of by people who use them as beggars, then forcing them to give them any money they make.
Education in India would be highly beneficial since these children would then be more likely to be eligible for work and have better opportunities in life.

2nd CAS Project Progress
For the introduction of the Wheely’s in the riviera community, I have been working closely with the business responsible for the purchase of the Wheelys in order to host a taster event for the inhabitants who will be most exposed to the wheely’s. To this end, we will be giving free samples at the Vevey marché for one weekend during the month of November, so that people will be able to see the merit of drinking organic, fairly traded, and economically friendlily produced coffee as opposed to mass produced coffee. The organisers asked me to prepare a questionnaire for the consumers to see what they thought of the coffee. I have attached a link below, however, i must ask that you refrain from filling it out, as this will interfere with the data collected.
