No cause like FR THO, Love Baldurs Gate to death but I decided to try and read more of the books my 2nd and 3rd runs and like CAN YOU NOT MAKE IT ANY MORE OBVIOUS??? I was reading for the lore but so many of the plot twists and answers are foreshadowed in the books, which lowkey feels like exactly the thing a dm would do 💀💀💀

without a doubt favourite part of bg3 is withers’ temple where every single book goes “you’re travelling with a vampire and a sharran and withers is jergal and also 50/50 you’re a bhaalspawn”

If anything I think it's impressive Gortash didn't just straight up snap and held onto his delusion/resentment/desperation the way he did. Even if he was quiet quitting his job as Banes chosen.

Because, realistically, that man was continuously fucked over by the entire world. He's lost absolutely everything in a span of 30, maybe 40 years, including the opportunity to develop his own identity and be viewed as more than 'something'. At best, people saw him as a tool. At worst, they outright despised him. And on top of that, the one person who ever gave a fuck about him, about 'Enver Gortash', didn't simply die, after all, that could be fixed rather easily. No, they were straight up erased to a point where even the gods can't restore them and instead replaced by an empty husk.

I don't know; it's rather impressive that he didn't just nope out of everything and release the brain. Because I would've understood if he did, honestly, he'd get a free pass, considering the circumstances. There have been more villainous people for lesser reasons.

Was thinking abt what would happen if my BG3 Durge Rhyse (post Brain) and Diablo IV character Leoroth met, cause like they’re pretty similar, but also they’d fundamentally despise each other, and I was bored in Earth Science so I started writing Rhyse getting Isakaied into Diablo IV 💀 but anyways, I was thinking a lot about their dynamic, right? They’d hate each other like kill on sight, cause Rhyse fuckin hates necromancers/undeath, and Leoroth, being from the game where you literally murder demons all day, well, safe to say they had a rocky first meeting. I think they’d get along better once they realize that they both dedicate their lives to the same thing (keeping the balance between life and death), and I think Leoroth would end up helping Rhyse back to his world.

Rift and Occulus. They’re halves of the same person cause in the rp they’re in Occulus got split into two halves. Occulus is an actual freak, but Rift is cool.

Kat (and bonus Kisa, a fusion of them and my friends oc Lisa) Got experimented on as a kid and pumped full of so much magic it turned them almost inhuman. Also from that rp I was talking about. Omg literally I love this theory (Thought it was canon tho). Love it so much so that my Durge post adventure becomes a chosen of Jergal. My big hc is that reviving Durge in the first place already made them his chosen to keep Durges soul from going to his father’s plane. Cause going by 3.5 rules Bhaalspawn are ‘outsiders’ (not from the material plane, funky revive rules) and I felt would need a fair bit of divine intervention past like, ‘I heal u’. Anyways my Durge post adventure became like, a psychopomp pretty much (grim reaper mf). It was of his own choosing just btw, Withers would’ve let him live a normal life, but my Durge wanted to redeem himself for all the ‘imbalance’ he caused in his past, and wanted to make sure nothing like that ever happened again, usually by collecting souls and killing liches, but he’d also keep the dead 3 in check. (Good point to mention my Durge is a Ranger, so even before spooky death powers, he cared a lot abt balance n shit, and also that his canon universe he never romanced any of the companions, at least not in the span of the campaign. I was playing around with the idea of him and Gale, but then again, my Durge is *famously* unable to move on, so much so that he still wears one of Gortash’s rings around his neck 300 years later, so safe to say Durge and Gale were just besties.

Aaanyways, food for thought lmfao, sry I went on a ramble n got hella off topic XD

Currently hurting my own feelings with the theory that Withers is Jergal.

Because on a redemption durge playthrough, Withers offers wisdom and guidance and is more of a father towards a redemption durge than Bhaal ever was.

Because my brain thought about this at 10:00pm on a Monday, tumblr must be told.

Obsessively reading everything in game by and about Gortash and the dude is

On a philosophical trajectory that ends in immortality thru technology / the machine

Doesn't have an original bone in his body, but he can backwards engineer anything

Halfway to being a decent scientist but doesn't have the education and is deeply impatient

Overconfident in the veracity of his own results and conclusions

Accurately predicted that the brain would metamorphose and become more difficult to control and then did nothing about it

Outsources his propaganda / arts and humanities

Charming, but he got there in a Pavlovian way (learned from trial and error and probably doesn't consciously know how he does it)

Vindictive af (learned / reinforced)

Darwinian (in the worst way)

Sociopathic, obviously, but extremely Rationalist about it

Never asks questions he doesn't know the answer to and probably thinks this makes him sound more authoritative

Completely incompetent as a strategist (but doesn't know it)

Not nearly as narcissistic / full of himself as he pretends to be

Thinks what he wants is praise but it's never enough because it's not actually what he wants (he wants to be wanted)

Bane makes him feel wanted (conditionally)

Durge made him feel wanted (unconditionally)

Understands intellectually that Durge got ambushed, but he feels abandoned
