On March 20th, 2023, I read an article by Environment America, stating that every year, 150 million acres of crops cultivate with neonic-coated pesticide seeds. According to research by the EPA, they debate the economic benefits, have found little benefits to farmers, and recorded evidence of the seeds killing off the natural predators that reduce the targeted populations of invasive pests. Since the seeds create airborne dust toxic to bees, should legislators start regulating their use? Feel free to share your thoughts!

In this entry, I will document notes on an emerging topic:
Scientists in the health industry may seek to collaborate with the beekeeping industry for pathogen surveillance.
Like a cotton swab, the fuzzy body of a bee collects microbes and other tiny particles while it forages for food and resources. The sample size appears large enough for scientists to detect illnesses and threats amongst a human population.
According to editor Linda Poon for Bloomberg, "the study has begun in New York City where researchers were able to find a diversity of species- including bacteria associated with plants- and human-related pathogens." In Venice, Italy, researchers have collected samples containing fungi related to wood rot where residence buildings sit atop wooden pilling submerged in water.
Similarly, in Tokyo, Poon states that researchers have found genetic traces of a fermenting yeast commonly used in soy sauce production and miso paste. (How fascinating!)

Taking a moment to highlight artist @princepokemon !
Entry #3 | BEEING LOUD for World Bee Day
I've been on the edge of my seat, excited to share this beekeeping composition designed by my friend Prince for World Bee Day 2021.
Their theme focuses on community and teamwork with hands-on bee specialists reinvigorating flower beds! I love the low-rise hills in the mid-ground and the cool blue-gray clouds sitting in the neutral white background. Also, their bee-centric enclosure for the headliner acts as a trademark to reinforce the subject matter with an advertising approach.
This composition speaks of a warm, partly-cloudy, late spring day that our fellow nature enthusiasts remember fondly.
Thank you for sharing! \(*^▽^*)/

Early in this morning I found out it was #worldbeeday and it got me thinking I have some kind of fascination about bees - they enter into my category of magical beings… But I’ve never draw any… Why? Don’t know but here is my first attempt on a bee illustration 😊 . . . . . . . #pinknounou #madeinportugal #compraaospequenos #escolheportugal #supportsmallbusiness #inspiredbynature #illustratorsoninstagram #creativehappylife #illustration #ilustracao #illustrationartists #weareillustration #illustratenow #illustratorsofinstagram #best_of_illustrations #animalart #animallovers #forkids #bees #bee #savethebees #beeday #beeart #beekeepers #beesofinstagram #lovebees #beelovers #apicultura #thenaturalworld @illustrationartists @childrensillustrators @the_world_of_illustration1 (em Lisboa, Portugal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPG38T5M7Jq/?utm_medium=tumblr

Weekly work #20: Bee 🐝
A charcoal experiment done on page 1 of the handy little brown A5 scrapbook I recently picked up from Kmart.
Figured I’d draw a bee for World Bee Day, based on this reference from pexels.

World Bee Day Bee Engaged: Build Back Better for Bees 🐝
📉 In many areas, bees, pollinators, and many other insects are declining in abundance and diversity. Most of these drivers are man-made. 🍎 Pollinators such as #bees, birds and bats, affect 35 percent of the world’s total crop production, increasing outputs of 87 of the leading food crops worldwide. 🐝 Safeguarding bees safeguards #biodiversity: the vast majority of pollinators are wild, including over 20,000 species of bees. 🌱 Three out of four crops across the globe producing fruits or seeds for human use as food depend, at least in part, on pollinators. 🥗 #Pollination benefits human nutrition – enabling not only the production of an abundance of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, but also more variety and better quality. 🧑‍🌾 Sustainable #agriculture and agroecology can reduce risk to #pollinators by helping to diversify the agricultural landscape, offering natural habitats to them, and making use of ecological processes as part of #food production.
