WNGTI Chapter 10 Sneak Peek
All right, here's the beginning 900 words of the final chapter mostly unedited because I wrote them today and am still currently writing more
-------------------------------------------
Steve winced at the swipe of stinging wetness passing over the open wound on his shoulder and hissed a breath out through his teeth, regretting the decision to let it be fussed over while they were waiting inside the dark, cramped trailer for the girls to either show back up or for it to become apparent the lack of response from their end was cause to begin panicking in earnest.
Mike hadn’t heard anything from his sister since Nance had told everyone she was turning the walkie off for safety reasons and not to come running if she didn’t contact them again for some time.  That bore little difference from their own experience, but it helped to ease some of the worry he felt when no one else thought it strange the girls were still radio silent several minutes after the attack had halted on both sides.
The news that Max was in fact alive and had been rescued by something other than their failed attempts to rouse her with music was reason enough to breathe a huge sigh of relief.  And though they were informed she had immediately passed out again from the pain of her wrecked arm upon waking and they were on their way to the hospital to check on her recovery after dragging her outside to fake a horrific skateboarding accident as a cover story, no gates had opened themselves on their end, so things appeared to be on the up and up.
Dustin figured the abrupt end of their own little problem was also a good sign of their inevitable success.  Something or someone had weakened Vecna enough that the Upside-down had no choice but to withdraw and fall silent.  And while Will could still feel some kind of presence whispering through the Creel house as he walked the halls, once they’d left the property behind, that fuzziness he hadn’t escaped since his return to Hawkins had as good as vanished completely.
All of the evidence pointed toward victory—at least in some sense of the term—and so they’d agreed to stay put a little while longer to wait and see what happened next before the search party was assembled for more concrete answers.
His submitting to being poked and prodded the second everything had concluded was not part of that deal, although Eddie didn’t seem to get the memo that ‘I’m fine’ and ‘we can worry about it later’ were valid arguments against his insistence to the opposite.
It wasn’t even that he didn’t feel comfortable removing his jacket and then shirt for the area to be looked over and cleaned thoroughly before infection had the chance to set in.  After all, he’d waltzed through the Upside-down in nothing but a vest ‘for modesty’s sake’ and a few impromptu bandages to keep his insides from leaking all over the place once upon a time.
Steve was not a shy person by any means.  And it wasn’t necessarily that he didn’t want someone else taking care of the wound when it was too far out of reach for him to do it himself.
There had never been an issue on his part when Nancy was the one wrapping his stomach with careful touches.  For some reason or other, having Eddie play nurse to his injuries was far, far too intimate an experience to have while a pair of onlookers carried on a conversation from where they’d plopped down on the dirty sofa not even two feet away.
“How’s it looking,” Jonathan finally asked after he’d grimaced for what felt like the hundredth time in five minutes, arms wrapped around and up over the back of one of the kitchen chairs and chin propped on his hands to keep as still as possible during the arduous process.
Eddie passed the cloth over the wound again, and he grunted audibly at the pain it caused.  “Well, it’s less deep than I first thought.  Probably won’t need any stitches.”  Lowering his voice a bit to indicate he was directing the next part to Steve alone, the tone he used also softened exponentially.  “This is likely going to sting.”
“So nothing—ah, fuck, nothing new, then,” he hissed, spine arching inward to escape the frigid sensation of liquid pouring over his shoulder and down his back all over the place except where he’d been torn open by hundreds of tiny needles.  There, it burned like fire searing the skin until it calmed somewhat into a strange bubbling sensation throbbing across the injury as it worked to eat away every last hint of contamination and then some.  “Told you it could wait til later.”
“Just because it’s not life-threatening right this moment doesn’t mean you’re in the clear,” Eddie argued back for what also felt like the hundredth time in as many minutes, swiping away the worst of the mess with something dry and hopefully clean.
They hadn’t had much to work with initially, and nobody wanted to trust the Upside-down ‘83 version of first aid items stocked in the Munson’s medicine cabinet no matter how much they appeared to feel and smell like their alternate-dimension counterparts.
The same went for food and other objects discovered around the trailer in their initial sweep.  If it weren’t for Jonathan having the good sense to pack his own bandages along with a half-used bottle of peroxide for just such an occasion, Steve might have succeeded in his attempt to stave off the inevitable until a little more privacy was allotted to them.
What he wouldn’t give for a bathroom large enough to fit two bodies and still shut the door without it feeling quasi claustrophobic.

WNGTI Chapter 9 Sneak Peek
Literally just wrote this so it is mostly unedited but
--------------------------------------
The remainder of the plan was fairly straightforward.
Use one of the three gates to sneak into the Upside-down, cross their fingers they didn’t run into trouble along the way to Eddie’s trailer as he had insisted that he get a repeat performance of the epic metal concert in literal Hell or nobody was going to hear the end of it; then the girls would continue on to the Creel house while the guys all remained behind to prepare for distraction take two, and hopefully no one had to die this time to accomplish their goal of stopping Vecna for good.  Easy peasy.
There may have been a bit more to it—at least, he was pretty certain someone mentioned something about the why’s and how’s of El’s exact method for murdering the son-of-a-bitch for real this time—but what that entailed outside of ‘keep Eddie safe or die trying’ really didn’t register in his brain.
Honestly, it was no wonder to him that it took reliving the full eight months of torture to give the girl an answer to her question.  Steve had an attention span the size of a literal gnat on all things he deemed unimportant content.
The gate they finally chose to utilize for the second leg of the plan was surprisingly the one he never put much stock into in the past—although now that it was the only one they had a relative idea of its location and an adequate belief it wasn’t crawling with police given a distinct lack of mention of it despite being smack dab in the middle of a highway, it actually made the most sense.
The woods were simultaneously close to every necessary location they wanted to hit while still remaining hidden enough they’d lost the first swarm inside the relative safety of the trees after Steve’s painful introduction to what made a demobat quite possibly the worst thing the Upside-down had ever produced to date.  Not that he was biased, or anything.
Once the majority of the kids had all been dropped off to await the signal to take action much the same way they’d been instructed to the first time—the addition of not one, but five extra walkmen and a boombox at their disposal as well as the additional Kate Bush tape Steve had given to Eddie for safekeeping before everything about his own hairbrained plan spiraled out of control—the arguable adults of the group plus the singular superpowered teen made their way into the forest after leaving their cars in the rear lot of the trailer park.
It would have been the preferred choice for everyone present to drive closer to the gate seeing as how having a quick getaway was never a bad idea, but something about parking two very conspicuous vans on the side of a highway with a portal to an alternate dimension somewhere in its general vicinity really didn’t sit well with any of them.  And for good reason, too.  The less nosey townsfolk getting themselves murdered in their stupidity, the better.
The only other thing Steve would have maybe liked to do before heading out is wait for Joyce and Hopper to roll into town before they made their move, although he understood the reason both Will and El very quickly nixed that idea in its entirety.
Saying hello only to turn around and say goodbye was far too risky a chance for any of them to take, and not that he was pessimistic about the likelihood of their success rate or anything of that nature, but he himself didn’t want his final memory of the couple to be the one of their haggard return to Hawkins.
The two deserved to believe the worst was behind them. Even if for only one singular night.

WNGTI Chapter 8 Sneak Peek
It didn't take long after their arrival for the station wagon to pull up and park beside the van, the occupants inside filing out to the tune of rich laughter and smiles so large you'd think they'd already forgotten the town was in peril and that they were some of the only people who knew what to do to fix it.
"Hey Steve, enjoy the nap," Robin teased as she trotted over to where he was still in the process of unlocking the front door, foisting a greasy bag into his arms far too heavy to be for his consumption alone and snatching the keys away to finish the job in his stead.
Eddie didn't wait for him to adjust to the new role of bag boy in the slightest, crowding into his personal space a heartbeat later in order to tear into the contents with reckless abandon, frowning over at the girl a moment later with an adorable little pout.  "What, no curly fries," he huffed, apparently displeased with the selection offered to him.
"Sorry, Munson," she replied with a shrug, attention focused on her hands attempting to find the sweet spot without a porch light to illuminate the area.  The lock clicked a moment later, and the girl swung the door open wide, glancing over her shoulder as she stepped into the darkened foyer with a grin.  "The kids and Wheeler wanted food from the diner.  You were outvoted one to five."
"Heathens don't even know what's good," he muttered, arms crossed over his chest as he followed closely at her heel.  "Honestly, who doesn't like their potato with a little extra wave?  It's literally the superior technique in every sense of the word."
"I like curly fries," Steve chimed in as he brought up the rear, shifting the bag around to avoid the potential of grease stains marring his white tee.  "But then again, I like most fried foods."
"See, Buckley.  Even Harrington knows how to be adventurous," Eddie announced, snaking an arm around his shoulders and giving him a good shake to emphasize the point.  "You could learn a thing or two from him."
"Steve's opinion doesn't count in this case," Robin proclaimed with a dismissive wave thrown over her shoulder, flicking on lights as she passed through the kitchen into the dining area and then circled back around toward the couch.  With the final one lit, she turned to face the two of them with a wicked smirk, hands fisting her hips and eyes locked onto his with a weighty purpose.  "I'm pretty certain he's into both."
"You're just mad he agreed with me first," the other continued, releasing his hold and heading in the same general direction as if nothing about that statement was amiss.
They continued to argue back and forth, but Steve didn't hear what more was said, face aflame and ears deaf against the rush of blood pounding through his head at the implication and possible truth therein.
So maybe he'd discovered after a bit of soul searching that he was slightly less on the straight and narrow than most believed him to be given his past habits of speed-running the small pool of available females in his age range as if they were oxygen he was a man in desperate need of a quick breath.
It wasn't a crime to find certain qualities attractive in another person no matter their gender.  Objective observation of what features he liked and didn't wasn't the same thing as inherent interest, per se.  Robin of all people shouldn't be giving him shit for figuring things out before he was ready to have a repeat of their very private discussion the year prior.
And that was if he ever decided it was actually a thing he was willing to explore further, which was unlikely given the grief it caused his friend on a near daily basis wondering at the deeper meaning behind every look and smile and laugh she received after carefully masking all attempts at flirting into something passable as innocent friendship all while still making a point to be direct enough any receptive party would understand the underlying intent.
Sticking with girls only for the foreseeable future sounded far less exhausting to him overall.  Plus there was the small matter of having nobody he liked enough to try.  Certainly not with the world on the brink of annihilation.

WNGTI Chapter 7 Sneak Peek
Less than ten minutes in and already Steve had a splitting headache.
The trip to the Creel house had been interesting, to say the least—the combination of Eddie’s terrible driving skills, the horrendous excuse for music pounding into his bones, and Dustin’s inability to sit in an actual seat in favor of leaning between the two of them and scream-shouting theories at the sides of their heads leaving his nerves shredded far worse than before.  And that was only the beginning of his torment.
It amazed him the extent to which the two timelines overlapped.  Even without his commentary thrown into the mix—even while hanging back with his arms crossed over his chest in silent observation, refusing to add fuel to the fire—the others still managed to follow patterns he vaguely recalled as if from a far away dream.
Tearing the nails out of the board placed over the entryway. Dustin's snark and Robin's quick thinking. Throwing the brick through the window to gain access to whatever mysteries still lay beyond.
Standing inside the building right and proper sent whatever little remained of his composure out the window the instant the door closed behind their group with a resounding groan, anxiety spiking higher with each careful step they took on the creaky floorboards, flashlights sweeping over cobwebs and dust undisturbed by the passages of time.
Too many memories were capable of being dredged up in that darkness than he cared to revisit—all of them terrible, although some more so than others.
Vecna’s escape.  Dustin's broken sobs piercing the night.  Eddie’s lifeless form sprawled out on the ground in a pool of his own blood, waxy skin already cold to the touch.
Discovering the full extent of Max’s injuries and having to endure Lucas’ harrowing guilt after the hell they’d live through in the Upside-down had taken the biggest toll on his already fractured psyche, and that was with the fresh hope of the girl's heart still pumping blood through her veins with a weak albeit steady beat.
Having the two alive and well standing beside him once more did little to ease the pain that wrapped itself around his chest like a wet blanket, that same nightmarish imagery superimposed over the edges of reality until it made him feel sick.
Steve couldn’t lose anyone this time.  His fragile mind couldn’t take another blow of that significance without seeing it break the rest of him in tandem.
Whatever happened next was a bit of a blur, too consumed with his memories to catch what was said as the others surveyed the area.  Something about finding clues that could aid the fight.  Understand the reasons behind the madness better.
“Okay, everyone stay in groups.  Robin, upstairs.”
“You wanna—”
“Actually, you go with Dustin.  I’m feeling a little overwhelmed, I think I need a moment.  I’ll catch up with you in a bit.”
“Oh.  Okay.”
“Hey, you all right?”
It was the firm pressure on his arm that let him know the words were meant for his ears this time.
Blinking the fog from his mind, he cracked a wry smile, sparing a quick glance over at the face so close to his own he felt the next gentle exhale tickle his cheeks.  “Yeah, just a headache,” he promised, using two fingers to massage the area between his brows for good measure.  “It’ll pass.”
“You sure,” Eddie asked, noticeable concern lacing his voice.
Steve huffed a small laugh, despite himself.  “Yeah, I’m sure.”

The compartment door slid open a crack and a tan-skinned face peeked in. Finding the place practically empty, the young boy opened the door the rest of the way and stepped past the threshold. His eyes were blue like the ocean with flecks of grey and white, his hair the color of light-roast coffee and kept relatively close to his skull. The hints of freckles could be seen along his nose—and when he smiled shyly, one dimple showing itself in his left cheek, Keith felt his heart flutter at the sight.
“Hi, can I maybe sit with you, please? My friends aren’t on the train yet, but they’re really nice.”
Keith blinked at the boy before nodding his head. “Sure, there’s plenty of room.”
The boy beamed at that, shuffling inside with a small owl cage in one hand, closing the compartment back up with his other. “I’m Lance, by the way. Lance McClain. What’s your name?”

WNGTI Chapter 5 Sneak Peek
Wow I am so late in posting this, but seeing as how I have once again barely finished writing it just now and therefore cannot be held accountable for anything that seems a little wonky, I can’t exactly be blamed for that tardiness either. Yeah?
--------------------------------
Steve shouldn’t have been surprised.  Not after the first time fate led a victim down a path similar to the one they’d encountered in the past.
It had taken the better part of an hour and five cigarettes passed back and forth in near-silence for Chrissy to open the door and invite them inside, blue eyes red brimmed from what was no doubt another bout of intense crying but cheeks thankfully free from the evidence of recent tears.
They didn’t ask about the private relationship stuff.  Only whether Jason knew where to find Patrick that day and if she would like to tag along when they went so as not to be left alone with her thoughts—the answer to both of those questions fairly obvious to discern.
That was the easier bit.  Getting the intel they’d need if they wished to succeed in their endeavor.  Formulating a plan that everyone could agree upon proved a bit harder to tackle, given the circumstances.
Not that they weren’t all on the same page when it came to Patrick and his continued safety.  The fewer people who died before El made it to town, the better.  Allowing Vecna the opportunity to amass even an ounce more power that may or may not tip the scales against the superpowered teen was certainly the worst outcome he could think of, so keeping the death count to a one-off kind of deal was in everyone’s best interest.
It was the manner in which Eddie and Chrissy had decided to tag-team and shut him down at every turn that was the most exasperating.  The sheer insolence toward his frankly impeccable method of handling everything himself reminding him why he hadn’t wanted to involve anyone in taking the monster down, even as it became increasingly difficult to do anything on his own without some form of aid to achieve his goals.
Only two things were truly accomplished by the time their strange group got into the car to head out after another hour or so of non-stop arguing.  Chrissy was back to acting a bit more like her previous chipper and bubbly self, and Steve was ready to drive his companions out into the middle of nowhere to leave them stranded while he continued on without the constant undermining of his self-imposed authority getting under his skin.
If only he believed he’d actually get away with doing just that.  He was almost certain it would stop the growing headache pounding outward from his temples, and that was as good of an excuse as any to warrant the action and then some.
The drive to the lake was spent talking in much the same, pointless circles about who should be the one in charge of saving Patrick and who was going to wait in the car like a good boy due to the oddity of showing up not just with an ex-teammate by her side, but the town freak and known drug dealer in tow.
Chrissy had already taken it upon herself to let Jason know she would be dropping by at some point to make up for her disappearing act after the game as a way to draw out the exact location and prevent things from going sideways a second time around, and while that was smart and he commended the girl for her perfect execution and quick thinking, really put a damper on his own method of doing things.
Namely that he would prefer to skulk in the shadows some more and only reveal himself once it was absolutely necessary to do so, but with the cheerleader dead-set on taking things into her own hands and simply being in the right place when the time came to save the jock, his foolproof planning skills had once again combusted in a glorious reminder that nobody respected him as they should.

Fighting Chapter 32 Sneak Peek
You’d think after a night spent running his hands all over his roommate’s lithe form and becoming privy to those sinful little moans that found his insides igniting in strange new ways before ending the encounter literally curled up together on the floor almost completely in the nude that Lance would have gotten a slightly better handle on where it was they stood going forward.  And yet, there he was.  Still just as in the dark as he’d always been when it came to Keith.
Not that he couldn’t gather through context clues alone there had been something appealing about the whole ordeal while smack dab in the midst of said mind-numbing pleasure.  Nobody that wasn’t also a renowned porn star should have had the capacity to fake the way the Slytherin responded to his touch like a man finally being allowed his first sip of ice cold water after months of nearly dying from dehydration.  Of that much, at least, he was near certain.
When it came to whether or not it had been a one-off situation or if he’d ever be permitted a repeat performance sometime in the next century, the answers to those and many other very serious questions were kept woefully out of his reach.  And not only by his own hand.
The fact that he was still too confused by the whole whiplash effect of his roommate’s hot and cold approach to their recent delve into multiple makeout sessions to ask the guy outright and risk coming off as clingy or sappy or, Godric forbid, so into everything that had transpired he was willing to chase that feeling into a third, fourth, fifth, and quite possibly hundredth time was one-hundred-and-fifty-percent undeniably his own stupid fault.  But the rest of the mess that followed said confusion was arguably outside of his control.
Keith had somehow managed to awaken the morning after that fateful night early enough to slink once more from beneath the tight cocoon of his arms despite what he thought was a clear invitation to remain a permanent fixture glued to his chest, this time without so much as a terse goodbye uttered in warning before hightailing it to the safety of his room for reasons unbeknownst to Lance.
He had, perplexingly, taken special care to drape a thin blanket over his naked form so as not to leave him both shivering and miserable in the process, but that small act of kindness did far too little to soothe the ache he felt when it then took hours more for the other to emerge from his bedroom with nothing remarkable to show for their time together save a small nod in greeting.  As if the whole thing was just the craziest fever dream Lance ever had the misfortune of experiencing in his lifetime and that was that.
Were it not for the evidence to the contrary in the form of a telling mark still blooming a faint purple on the otherwise alabaster skin of the Slytherin’s neck, he may have even believed it were possible, watching the boy putter around their shared kitchen while silently preparing coffee with the kind of careful neutrality regularly exhibited in the days prior to their shameless tryst.
Almost as if it were any other Sunday in February and Lance’s entire world hadn’t already been kicked so far off its axis it was dangerously close to hurtling into the deepest reaches of space…
It wasn’t that he wished for things to suddenly become awkward between them.  Far from it, the itch he never quite realized sat just beneath his poor excuse for self-control until it decided to rear its ugly head a little over a week ago begging for him to go back Keith into a corner and snog that ridiculous mouth senseless for deigning to be so fucking hot and warm and perfect while slotted against his own.
Even as he knew better, the consequences for once again attempting to open that confounding box of trouble be damned.

As always, check out the last update here, and look for this one... hopefully in September but we shall see how good I am at splitting my time going forward.

“I’m Keith Kogane. Nice to meet you, Lance.” — Or A Hogwarts AU. Before Cursed Child but after Deathly Hallows. Updates monthly.

“Harrington,” he replied in that same near-mocking tone used far too often in their high school years, gaze sweeping from his head to his feet and back before quirking a pointed brow. “I don’t think I’ve heard that one from you yet. Feeling all right? You look a little… lost, there.”
“I—what? No. It’s just been—”
“Ages. I know,” he agreed with a wry smirk, arms extended out in a dramatic pose. “Still here, though. Hate to be the one to disappoint.” --------------- Or Steve has seen the future with his own eyes. Now that he's back in his body on the day everything with Vecna first began, he'd be remiss not to use said knowledge to change the outcome. Perhaps saving Eddie Munson is the key to saving the world.

WNGTI Chapter 4 Sneak Peek
Bear with me because I am once again, unsurprisingly, running on 5 hours of sleep and it only really made me loopy this day when I had nothing to post but wanted to anyway.  Guess that’s what happens after a week of doing it.
So yeah, subject to massive edits when that beta (me) with a brain who doesn’t stay up all night like an idiot gets a chance to look at it.
--------------------------------------------
Headlights followed him all the way home.
Somewhere deep inside his idiotic brain, Steve had convinced himself that Eddie wasn’t going to do it.  That despite the fact he’d had to pin the guy down and fight tooth and nail to keep him from seeing Fred’s mangled body all twisted and wrong, curiosity would inevitably give way to common sense and he’d choose a different course of action than discovering the horrors of the alternate dimension plaguing Hawkins.
Perhaps he’d been wrong about a few things.
Not about keeping Eddie’s name from being dragged through the mud.  And definitely not about choosing to spare him further distress over the fruitlessness that was them both stupidly standing around watching the train-wreck play out so that it could haunt their dreams later.
If there was one decision he’d truly never regret, it was that.  No matter how much of a shitstorm he’d unknowingly kicked up by changing the entire course of the future in an attempt to save Vecna’s victims, one thing would always ring true.  Eddie Munson deserved better.  And Steve was going to make sure he received all of it and then some.
Pulling into the driveway, he twisted the key out of the ignition but otherwise hesitated on whether or not he was ready to vacate, watching as the person in the van parked next to his BMW did much the same.
Eddie was probably waiting on his lead and would thus remain stubbornly inside his own vehicle if Steve didn’t make the first move.  Which was only fair after everything, even as it made it that much harder to chicken out.
Heaving a sigh, he shoved the door open and slipped into the chilly night, glancing over his shoulder only after reaching the hood when the telltale silence of a second engine cutting off never actually sounded.
If he didn’t know any better, he’d say the other was scared to follow.  And in another lifetime, he may have actually believed it.
Steve ran a hand through his hair in an absent-minded gesture and squinted past the glare of bright light to see through the windshield, able to make out the vague outline of a body sitting behind the wheel and nothing more.
Figuring it wouldn’t hurt to march over and give another formal invitation to enter his not-all-that-humble and actually thoroughly-depressing-in-its-stark-emptiness abode, he changed course and sidled up to the driver's side window, rapping lightly on the glass with his knuckles and smiling wryly at the person within.
“You coming,” he asked when it finally lowered enough to catch the soft murmur of his voice over the rumble of the van’s engine, twisting his mouth once more in what he hoped was the semblance of something a bit more friendly than sarcasm could ever be.
Eddie offered a weak twitch of his own lips in response, brown eyes flicking over the property for a moment before they took in the mess of his hair and face, finally landing back at attention and drooping ever so slightly.  “I actually haven’t slept all that much since you barged in and saved the princess or whatever the Hell you’d call what you did.  I tried in the van a little when it felt like maybe I could, but I’ve been up and running around tailing you since before your shift started this morning.  I think this is going to be a thing I’ll want my full attention for.  How’s about a raincheck?”
--------------------------------------------
Go read chapter 3 here and hope my weekly updates can continue and you’ll be able to see this beast next Friday give or take.
