Archive.ph - Paywall bypass. Like 12ft below but appears to work far better and across more sites in my testing. I'd recommend trying this one first as I had more success with it.

“That is… startling news.” I slowly reply. I was just sitting on a bench in the park across the street, eating my bagel with what I like to call ‘birdseed’ on it. It was just everything seasoning, but I digress

You could imagine my obvious surprise at the raven.

First of all, a bird just spoke to me. Second, it referred to me as ‘my lord’. Third, it seems a neighbor plots against me.

Which doesn’t narrow it down much as I live in a apartment complex. Perhaps it’s my downstairs neighbor? I often practice my piano when I get home from work, and that’s late at night.

Though I don’t play particularly loud, and they’ve never had a problem with it for the past few months that I’ve lived here.

I looked back at the raven, who was eyeing my bagel. I sigh, and give the bird a piece.

“Care to elaborate, bird of black feathers?” I say, half expecting no response. The Raven squawks and nibbles on the bagel I gave it.

“Tis’ Mr. Grant, my lord!” The bird replies, it’s voice scratchy and croaking. “He plans to harm thee!”

With that, the Raven flew away.

Mr. Grant..? Who the hell is Mr. Grant?

Oh. He’s that guy who asked me out on a date like…three weeks ago.

Huh.

Oh look, more ravens approaching. That’s probably not good.

You always got strange looks whenever you fed the neighborhood ravens. “I give them food, they give me company,” you’d say. One day, a raven excitedly comes up to you and whispers, “A neighbor plots against you, my lord.”
