stillness, day and change for sylvester
stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves while at rest?
Sylvester is pretty good at staying still. He was raised to have very good manners, as you could expect from being high society. This doesn't mean he's like this all the time though, and often in more casual settings or with people he's familiar with he'll be playing with something in his hands; usually a ballpoint pen, or scissors (he carries them with him almost constantly), or his pipe. When he's distracted, he might play with his surgical tools, though he really isn't supposed to. Sylvester often wears very fashionable waistcoats and the like, so his posture tends to be pretty good, although he does slump noticeably in his lab, often hunched over his table looking at diagrams or samples.
day: What does your OC wear on a normal day? Why do they default to those clothes? Do they wear similar things, or do they change it up?
As I've said, Sylvester tends to wear fashionable waistcoats, with intricate patterns and expensive fabrics. He likes to pair these with simple large coats, for a dramatic silhouette. These are typically black, although more than occasionally tweed. His style is masculine, but flamboyant; I believe I have described him as almost peacock like in his character document! Here are a few clothes I have saved to his Pinterest board, to give you a broader picture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Generally, he dresses very well. Mostly, this is simply because he can; he grew up more financially unstable than the rest of his family, and so takes great care in both what he wears and being able to wear the more dramatic fabrics. He's a particular fan of double breasted buttons, and of neckties and bowties.
change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?
He hasn't changed his look that much intentionally, but he probably does look much different as an established pulmonologist than he did in university, where he'd dress much more understated to avoid drawing too much attention to himself. Other than that, not too much; he has a very particular look he is going for, and he doesn't want to sway from it.

💤 for saccade and ucalegon!!
💤 – What was your OC like as a baby, a child and as a teen? (if your OC is a teen or a child, what will they be like as an adult?). How have they changed since then? What lessons have they learned and what things about their youth do they miss the most? Do they have any general regrets?
Saccade would have been a trouble-making, but ultimately charismatic and kind kid. She was born to a working class family of construction workers in Old Rhapsody, and lived a fairly normal life growing up, initially being a bit of a class clown, being a bit rough, etc etc. Towards the later end of her teens and into her young adulthood, she was involved in the early guerilla warfare against Bronze Eden, etc etc. What happens next is stuff I don't want to spoil, but essentially she moves to Neo-Babylon after the crux of the war to get away from all the memories and bad associations, but also to get away from what Rhapsody was becoming. I'd say generally, she's heavily disillusioned with the whole cause and looks back on this period poorly. A part of her probably does sometimes miss having something she believed in, something she was a part of, but she would never go back if such an opportunity presented itself.
Ucalegon's past is muddled. Like a lot of children, she was left orphaned after the Baptism of Rhapsody, probably between ages 10–13. Young enough to remember her life before, not old enough to initially do anything about it. This event has, naturally, eclipsed most things in discussions about her life and her past, so any regrets and losses aren't things she lingers on outside of the context of the Baptism. It's what really radicalised her, made her dedicate her life to freedom fighting and avenging the dead.
It's interesting doing this with these two characters, because both of ther lives were changed so fundamentally by the Baptism, but in different ways. It radicalised Ucalegon, and it disillusioned Saccade entirely with the paramilitary effort. Just an unintentional mirroring I haven't realised til now. Interesting, because these two characters do look strangely alike (of course, Saccade is a lot older), but I hadn't thought about them in parallel like this.

Hi, hello, or as the brilliant and psychotic Jason Dean once said, greetings and salutations. You can address me as Raven, Kaius, or Rev, or Klaus if you’re a particular sleepy potato. I like neon flashy things almost as much as I like decrepit graveyards. Also dinosaurs.
As the banner suggests, I am elbow-deep in more WIPs than I know what to do with, and many of them contain vampires and jackasses [affectionate].
While I am trying to focus on no more than one or two at a time this year, chances are my attention will stray away from that goal and I will end up with even more WIPs than the year began with.
All that being said, these are a handful of my main go-to projects and / or the ones most active in my brain space right now, all of which are collaborations in some shape or form with my dearest friend @reeseweston :
Tumblr media
there’s a new drug in town and it’s turning users into bloodthirsty vampires that crave the neon substance and its supernatural side effects. a detective and his android partner—both on and off duty, though unofficially—set out to end this endemic while trying and failing to dodge noxiglow’s temptations
Tumblr media
queer contemporary suspense with a sprinkling of romance set in the early 90s revolving around an alcoholic with a severe case of Jackass with a Heart of Gold Buried Under Years of Trauma. expect lots of 80s and 90s music and movie references, copious amounts of cursing, a plethora of eroticism, and a heaping of pancakes [more here]
Tumblr media
queer gothic fantasy with ghoulish vampires and a corrupted greedy government, science experiments gone wrong and superhuman beings, what more could you ask for? snarky lesbians and a polyamorous trio, of course! [more here]
Tumblr media
queer contemporary about a guy who tells elaborate lies as a defense mechanism and is in desperate need of escape from his abusive ex-boyfriend. that escape comes in the form of a quote-unquote pharmacist harboring his own secrets and is in need of a date to his cousin’s wedding. both of their secrets will be uncovered on an eventful and harrowing trip across the country amidst the snow
Tumblr media
best friends cas and felix travel the country searching for proof of supernatural creatures with the aid of a camera and their increasingly popular paranormal podcast, blurring the lines between the known and the unexplainable, and their friendship, along the way. it’s gay and there are ghosts, so basically it’s perfect [more here]

🍊 and 📙for saccade and vitor :D
🍊 – What is your OC’s favourite meal? Snack? Dessert? Drink? Any reasons behind this besides liking how it tastes? What is your OC’s most hated food? Stuff they can’t stand to eat or drink?
So, fun fact about Neo-Babylon; in some areas of the city, a number of underground factories were built, as part of a growing movement of people not wanting to have to travel for ages for work, as the city was already massive. Because of this, a number of factories for food are still in operation, left mostly unscathed by the extreme levels of radiation above. Some smart people have gotten these up and running, and now there is a real black market for the heavily processed foods that come from these factories. So Saccade's favourite food is essentially a Mr Kipling, or a twinkie, or whatever one's version might be. This is less because she genuinely loves how it tastes, and more because the rarity and exclusivity of it makes it taste better. Beyond that, her favourite foods tend to be spicy and vinegar-heavy. There are few things she won't eat, which is more a survival thing more than anything. However, she does avoid fish for the most part, because she hates picking out bones.
Vítor tends to eat simple; bowl of porridge in the morning, nice salt beef sandwich for lunch, and something like lasagna or risotto for dinner. This is a) because he's not a spectacular cook and these meals are simple enough to not mess up, and b) because he just isn't really a foodie guy. However, he enjoy a good pastry if he walks past a bakery of some kind, and he's never more at peace than in his office with a nice black cup of coffee. I think he also has a real sweet spot for cannolis, when he can get them.
📙 – What kind of subjects (of conversation, of discussion, in school or whatever) does your OC find interesting or engaging or that they can talk for hours about? What kind of stuff do they just find fun? What things bore your OC to tears and they couldn’t care less about? Why?
Saccade has a general interest in history, partially because it's often useful to know the how and why behind things, and partially just from natural curiosity. She's not much of a talker, to be honest, but she'd certainly be happy to tell you about the history behind a landmark or something if she knew it. She also goes to a fair amount of local sporting events, particularly boxing, and has a fair chunk of knowledge about the rules, techniques, history etc, but would have to be prompted to speak on this. She doesn't have much of a head for science-related subjects, especially mathematics. Biology and chemistry, she can understand in more practical terms, but try to explain calculus or algebra to her and she's tapping the fuck out.
Vítor is much more interested in math and the like than her, particularly computer science and coding. His major special interest however is music, particularly jazz and blues; there are a lot of performers in Golden Glimpse, where he lives, and the music that the city plays is why he has stayed there as long as he has, despite the many issues with gang activity and the influence from Bronze Eden. In the evening, when he's finished up with his work and when there's no more he has to do around his agency, he'll often go out and find a bar with performers and just sit a while to listen. He has a lot to say about the rhythms, influence, etc of the music. For what he isn't interested in, well he tries to act like he's interested to not discourage them, but when the kids that go through his agency start talking about motorcycles and modding them, he could not give a fuck. He doesn't have a car or any kind of vehicle, and he doesn't want or need one.

Find the word tag
I was also tagged in this by @noblebs, thank you so much for the tag! My words were cover, face, build, and least.
Cover was in a number of different places so I just went with the first one I saw! Saccade is unimpressed by the seafront.
“They said we’d know it when we saw it, but I got no idea how we’re meant to make heads or tails of this place,” Saccade grunts next to him, her voice loud to compensate for the muffling of the heavy grey gas mask that covers her entire head. “I mean, how are we meant to tell one ship from the rest? I can barely fuckin’ tell the fishing boats from the battleships, they all look like shite.”
Here's a passage with two different faces, with Vítor!
His mask chafes around the sides of his face. It’s a standard gas mask: grey, plastic and metal, one of the ones they had hanging next to the bright purple sign that announced where Neo-Babylon and her irradiated land began. He’d done everything he could to scrub it while he travelled down the land but it still smelled musty, heavy with sweat of a thousand faces who’d worn it prior. There was a nicer one at his office, a stern thing of well-treated leather and gold, but Vítor Cadogan, fresh out of Golden Glimpse wasn’t looking to get robbed in this city-slum.
I actually couldn't find any just for build on its own, but I had a lot of descriptions of buildings, so here is one of them. It is a Saccade piece, but she isn't in it very much here.
Shell-like buildings of concrete and metal stretch above, half-crumbled. Entire floors have collapsed in on themselves, making these stone goliaths look lopsided and asymmetrical, like crumpled paper cutouts. Some seem to have been gouged, entire holes ripped out leaving metal rods exposed and twisted. Above this cemetery of steel and rock lays a thick layer of bile-coloured smog, swallowing the tops of broken architecture with its sickly yellowish glow.
Here is least! It's a Vítor snippet, but he isn't there so it doesn't count that much.
His left side is recognisable at least, but his other side, his right, is covered in a nauseating array of clumps, diseased tumours. His right arm seems to have swollen up like it had been injected with a hundred different steroids, but they’d only stayed in the one arm.
I'm tagging @solipseismic, @borisyvain, @dyrewrites, @ladvofthelake, @xenascribbles, @albatris and you! Your words are drum, misery, lever and scout. You can also do hierarchy, as a bonus!

Find the word tag
Many thanks to @borisyvain for tagging me! My words were never, dog, burn and either!
For never, we visit Imperator V, who misses his Catholicism Assigned Chastity Belt™ dearly.
It has only been two weeks since he left the Temple of Eden and with it his Imperator’s mask, Imperator’s regalia, Imperator’s weaponry. They’d even taken off the mouthguard that kept him from eating anything unsanctioned, the belt that made it awkward to use the bathroom but kept him from committing any sins of the flesh, were he to be so tempted. It’s the longest time he’s ever spent out of it, and the absence is still felt keenly along his groin and hips, where it ought to be, a phantom of what he is, what awaits him when he returns to his city. He looks forward to the return. He feels too exposed, in this half-mask that leaves the bridge of his nose and his eyes exposed and digs a little too tight into his cheekbones, exposed without the thing of metal to keep him chaste. It was never a risk that he would be anything other than chaste, but the confirmation of the belt was comforting. The only other times before when it was taken off had been the standard resizing that had to be done as he grew from adolescence into an adult, and the occasional times for health checkups that every Imperator dreaded but knew was necessary to keep them in fighting standard.
Dog was weirdly hard to find, but I found one in a Diomede snippet.
For a moment, the two stand there, lonely inky shapes in a mostly-unseen basin of partial marsh-land. Nothing to hear but wind, and distant sounds of man and steed breathing in heavy synchronisation. Clearer, the howl comes. It’s a sound he knows well, but never before have the echoes of wolves and wild dogs in the distance made something like dread drop into his stomach. Goosebumps prickle like a rash across his arms and back. The leather strap he holds digs into his palm, becoming warm and clammy with his sweat.
Burn comes again from another Imperator V snippet, of course from the car that explodes, although funnily enough its use here isn't for the car.
Sharply coming into view, he can start to see the sparks of flame licking all around the vehicle, engulfed, the pockets of embers that fly around like passengers throwing themselves off a sinking ship. The air is so frigid that his lungs burn from exertion far easier than they would normally, but V doesn’t slow down, not even when his ill-fitting mask starts to become dislodged from his face, a second skin starting to shed. He only starts to slow when he is mere feet away, as glass that shattered from the windows crunches underfoot, staring at the warped chassis of metal from the impact it had, somehow having partially overturned.
Either comes from an area of the world I haven't spoken on here too much, featuring Nicolau and the rest of the Shimmerfolk, the cyborgs/androids of Nod.
It’s not that he doesn’t trust her. He does. Implicitly. They had to trust in each other, because they could trust nobody else. It was the foundation on which their people worked. Trust, blind faith in one another. It’s not that he doesn’t trust himself, either. He knows his body, or most of it–the micro-cables that run through his body in place of blood vessels, the titanium skeleton that mimics human bones, the processors in his cranium and ribcage where organs might be, the synthetic plastic wrap simulating soft organic flesh that covers these and hides them from sight. He knows the reinforced joints along his kneecaps, capable of drops up to 175 feet. He knows his body will automatically run a self-repair protocol if the fall exceeds that. He knows that death is not a certainty but a suggestion for him, that even if his body cannot self-repair sufficiently, so long as he stays out of the moss his body can be recovered and fixed.
I'm tagging @bebewrites, @words-after-midnight, @spideronthesun, @moonandris, @elvain and @digital-chance, as well as you! If you want to 😉 Your words are require, fasten, debris and humid. Bonus points if you have archaic in there!

Before Deluca -- Lost in Paradise
The sight in question was simple enough. No, that is a lie, it was anything but. We approached the precipice of another world when we stepped out on deck. A world more vibrant than what lay behind us. Above it, around it—swishing ever so below it, ignored in the moment but remembered in the telling—were colors I’d not seen outside of dreams—atop a shadow too grand to exist.
An island, Sebastian said, and it was—surely, it was—but it was larger than any single island we’d come across not speared by progress and teeming with smoke and men. Its forest—of soft gray trunks and warm purple leaves—stood impossibly on cool blue grass, defiant of my study. Shifting and twisting, it appeared altogether too close and too far, keeping me ever-guessing for its size and shape—the lights blinking within.
Closer and closer we drifted—too quickly for how many sails were reefed—into familiar air. Not for scent or sight but something in it swooned with knowing, through the steady breeze guiding us to a glistening dock of sea-black stone.

❌💛🌀 from the jumbo oc asks, for whichever oc you want :)
❌ - What kind of things would end any relationship for them? Is there a history behind why these things bother them? Could they ever take someone back despite this? If so or if not, why?
answered over here, but I'll also answer it for Hendrix and Diomede, considering their document is open right now! Hendrix has few taboos, so it takes a lot to end things outright in that sense. He's also a fairly obsessive person with the people he loves and gets close to, which adds another layer to things, because he gets so involved emotionally he can ignore what some might consider red flags. He is however, strangely politically well-read for a man who lives in a slowly rotting tanker, so I suppose those perspectives would be a potential relationship ender. He takes a real issue with individualism as a political ideology and anything that surpresses people's right to democracy, etc etc. He's such a firm believer in community strength and values (I would describe him as politically Marxist, socially Hedonist) that individualist lines of thinking just aren't compatible, and that's something that could end a relationship. As with a lot of things with Hendrix though, it can also really depend on the mood you catch him in, because one day's unforgivable ethical difference is another day's interesting and invigorating debate. Diomede is complex. Historically, he's only been in a handful of relationships, and all of those were with members of the Vagor, the nomadic group of weaponsmiths he belongs to. In those there was always an understanding that their dedication to each other was secondary to their dedication to the rest of the Vagor and their community, as is part of their teachings. Now that he's been exiled, I think aside from like, basic moral stuff of "don't hurt children, don't abuse animals, don't torture people", he really doesn't have all that much he'd have major issues with because he's never been in a relationship without the guidelines of the Vagor's teachings as a general moral and ethical framework. He has to learn for himself what his personal boundaries are, now that the framework of the Vagor has been removed.
💛 In general, how in control of their emotions is your OC? Do they have a good hold on them or do their emotions control them, not the other way around? What do you think is the reason behind this and is your OC ever concerned about their lack of or good control?
Hendrix has untreated and undiagnosed (no medical services in Nod) bipolar disorder so his grasp is Poor, to say the least. Generally, his emotions control him, although that's not to say he can't be extremely calculating and logical at times, it's just that it really depends on the situation and mood. He's used to obeying most of his whims and impulses, and damn the consequences, because who is going to stop him? Not himself, that's for sure. He's vaguely aware of his own instability and recklessness, but he doesn't feel majorly inclined to change this, partially because it's all he's ever known, partially because so long as he's having fun, who really cares? Diomede works a lot to be in control of his emotions. Being the leader of the Vagor for so long, he couldn't let his feelings affect the good of the whole community, and even after his exile that is a mentality he has in the back of his mind. However, since being exiled and not having so many people relying on him, Diomede has found that his emotions feel stronger and are more difficult to resist, and certainly he has obeyed some more impulsive whims than he would have done with the Vagor, like seeking revenge or the like.
🌀 Where is your OC from? Where were they born? Do they still live there, if not why did they move? If they still live in the area how has it changed since their childhood? How many places has your OC lived in and where has been their favourite?
Hendrix has lived in Neo-Babylon all his life, and remembers life before the nuclear power plant blew up shortly after the time bomb was dropped on Rhapsody. He was born to a surprisingly wealthy family, but separated from them due to his general delinquent behaviour as a youth, and his anti-establishment inclinations. This cumulated when his family left to enter Prydam, a heavily protected enclosure built to separate the wealthy Neo-Babylonians from the poor, and destoryed the bridge connecting it to the rest of the city behind them. Over time as he lived there, his body began to mutate from radioactive exposure like many in Neo-Babylon. It was around this time when he started getting into pirate lore and stories, and when his body start to grow shells and coral and his skin became vaguely squid-like and his body changed to house tentacles, he took that as a sign, and moved with many other aquatic-themed mutated people into one of the giant old boats that was part of the Neo-Babylon shipping economy before society collapsed. He really likes it there, living his dream a pirate captain of the seas, even if he isn't actually going anywhere. Diomede was born in the wild, to his Vagor parents. The Vagor are nomadic, and travel all around Nod, so he never had a particular home in terms of place, but rather in terms of people. He's been essentially on the move all his life, and gets angsty if he starts staying in one place too long. He doesn't mind having familiar areas he comes back to, but one home? Forget it.

❌️, 🍑 & 🍋
I'm answering these for Sylvester Praeceptor and Saccade :) thank you for asking!
❌ - What kind of things would end any relationship for them? Is there a history behind why these things bother them? Could they ever take someone back despite this? If so or if not, why?
Sylvester likes to think he has strong morals, but he doesn't really, so there by way of actions or ethics there isn't much that is a hard no from that side of things. Sylvester is very intimate with the darker underbelly of the upper class from the various schemes and business ventures of his elder brother Frederick, so he's a difficult man to upset that way. I would say traits of recklessness or openness or overconfidence are things he avoids and when they reveal themselves he's quick to excuse himself; while Sylvester is probably wealthy enough to get away with a few indiscretions, unlike others he is very aware of how easy it is to lose good standing and wealth and he is unwilling to risk it, no matter how much he has to repress and hide about himself. Saccade is a difficult one. She's so unwilling to be in relationships these days anyway, that I feel like she vets people so rigorously that it's unlikely that when people reach that state of emotional closeness there's much that will bother her. She keeps her cards very close to her chest, generally. Living in such a rough area of Neo-Babylon and working as a mercenary/detective, she rubs shoulders with a lot of personalities. I guess she's very aware of her status and vulnerability as an older disabled woman, and anyone that can't understand her position or be understanding about her physical limitations (but also not treat her with kid gloves), that's a hard no, and something she's unlikely to forgive and go back on.
🍑 Where is your OC’s favourite place to relax or calm down? Recount a story of their time spent in this place! What makes it so special to them?
Sylvester's happy place is his laboratory. It's one of the only places his siblings will rarely enter and violate, unlike a lot of areas he frequents. It also represents the work and effort he put into regaining his family's wealth, so he's very proud to be in there and do the work he loves, that made him money and restored his family's name. This is weird to most people, who are unsettled by his surgical tools and pulmonology equipment, and of course, the respiratory organs he has preserved in jars for viewing. Saccade is also difficult for this one. Neo-Babylon is such a survivalist place that she rarely allows herself the luxury of relaxation or calm. The closest thing she gets to calm is the old, dilapidated building in Neo-Babylon she has claimed and turned into her office/living space, as it is the one area she can totally control and that is very important to her. Her reason for feeling calm is probably more "I know where all the nearest exits are here" than a genuine feeling of peace and quiet, but you know. Who cares about the bloodstains and bullet holes? She knows this place.
🍋 Does your OC act petty and jealous easily? What sort of things make them feel like this and do they experience guilt for getting so worked up? How do they deal with these emotions when they get them? If your OC doesn’t feel like this often, why not?
Sylvester can get petty and jealous fairly easily. Being the youngest of the Praeceptor siblings, he's the one who got the least amount of parental affection and focus, as at that point the marriage was on the rocks and Frederick was becoming increasingly volatile, so he's been feeling jealous all of his life in a way. It certainly translates to when he isn't given equal opportunities as others in his mind, or when attention is being taken away from him. Despite the fact that he has so much he wants to keep hidden, there is a part of him that is a natural showman and he does get frustrated when attention is pulled away when he's doing his routines. It translates to drinking, and abrasive shouting, much like his father funnily enough. Saccade can be petty but never jealous. Maybe she once might have been, but the state of her life means she can't linger on those feelings. She would tell you she's too old to be jealous of anything anymore, and she's probably right; she isn't at peace or anything, but she has come to an uneasy acceptance of the way her life is, etc etc. She experiences bitterness at maybe's and what-if's rather than outright jealousy, if that makes sense.

Heads Up Seven Up
Tagged by @illarian-rambling here
I is tagging @words-after-midnight @winglesswriter and @thebejeweledwatercat =P
I swear it's seven lines...
Too quick it was, as if those Hunters were nothing more than the weary soldiers we encountered from time to time—who came to us injured. I worried for the crew’s training then, if there was more at work in it, secrets perhaps. Yet I had no time to truly dig, to question. As the final Hunter was screaming on the other end of the ship... “Demons! They’re all fucking demons!” He howled with how quickly Nico disarmed him—literally, that, and I winced at the sight when I reached them—but while the mountain of a man trembled he made no attempt to flee. “Yes, our demons,” I whispered, savoring the sharp breath and failed turn before what poured from his empty socket puffed too sweet. Dropping my sword, I latched to his shoulder as the ragged screams singing behind us died away and the grand dome above popped—showering the deck in captured rains.
