MAJOR UPDATE. I know this blog is dead, shhhh
I decided to comb through the teletoon site archive some more, and guess what I found through messing with inspect element on the game link.
https://web.archive.org/web/20151201000000*/http://www.teletoon.com/fun/games/thwarp/unrealGame.swf
It brings me to a ruffle extension page when I click, thus this form of link, but it's there. Nothing WORKS, maybe because it needed files only Teletoon had, maybe just Ruffle being Ruffle, but I FOUND it.
Tumblr media
Boots up to display this. At least it's honest something is up.
Tumblr media
Look at that title screen! It's the next best thing to a functioning video game!
Tumblr media
Play freezes it and Instructions leads to a black screen, but high scores gives you a better view of the bg
Tumblr media
And here are the credits! I'm just. Overwhelmed. Not a WORKING game, but it's there. It's there and it almost works and just seeing this much is ghhhh giving me feelings
Hi! I’m… having a bit of a conundrum, involving a possible case of lost media. So I thought I’d reach out to people here to see their thoughts. I’d go somewhere specifically designed for lost media hunting, but TBH I feel a little nervous to. If anyone else wants to bring this to other platforms, feel free but be sure to link me to the conversation so I can read, or perhaps join in if I make a new discovery :D
To get to the point–the Thwarp! games by Teletoon don’t appear to be on Flashpoint, and are also not playable through Wayback. Or posted under their original names on any unshady flash game sites. They have all but disappeared off the face of the internet.
Here are all the images I’ve scraped together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All these are from thumbnails. In order: Thwarp!: Escape From Gruel School (AKA just Thwarp!) Thwarp!: Pickle Panic (or Thwarp 2), Thwarp! Halloween, Thwarp: Pickle’d Pinball Thwarp! Escape From G.R.U.E.L Mountain, Thwarp! Episode 5: Camp Gruel. Call of Deli thumbnail is just a smaller version of the next image.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Images from Teletoon’s twitter circa 2014–this appears to be around the time ‘call of deli’ was launched judging by tweet contents.
Tumblr media
From some person’s pinterest board of games.
Tumblr media
A lucky main page got me this!
There are likely more images if you go through Wayback harder than I did, but all the game files seem to have gone poof, which is really the important part
I’ve looked up Thwarp, looked up individual game titles, there are results, but the only ones that even have the potential for gamehood are SHADY and I’m not clicking them. If anybody has more info (or preferably, a source to it that doesn’t look like it’ll give me 423827 viruses) please do message me. I know a lot of this blog is for the ~aesthetics~ but I care deeply about the media I cover. That includes obscure series of flash games like THWARP!

May just do a post or series of posts on old Pokegod rumors if anyone would be interested? It’s a topic I’ve found quite a few Angelfire sites discussing, and while it might be one of my more research-intensive posts (I want to do it justice!) I can’t shake this fascination with them.
Will probably post no matter the interest levels, just wanting to let y’all know where my mind is at in terms of posts.

good news: just found an online virtual world id never heard of thats still ongoing today i think??? their youtube is still active. found it while looking up some more obscure terms looking for content on Nickelodeon’s The Club virtual world, but it seems to have nothing to do with nickelodeon at all
bad news: 90% of the content i can find for it is in a language i do not speak in the slightest so researching this will be difficult lol. Would explain why I haven’t heard a word about it in my life though XP

Put my update on the wrong blog first-time, oops! Anyways, ty to Yoshi2000, a random Angelfire page, for having the rest!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there are any more yoshi webpets, they weren’t on that page, and so remain undocumented :(
The Yoshi Web Pet Expedition
Now, this all started during one of my journeys through a Geocities archive–Restorativland’s backup this time, if you’re curious. Oocities is fun, but you can’t see where you’re actually going. Anyways, I came across this.
Tumblr media
It led to a Yoshi’s Story website, and after messing about with Wayback, I got to this page. Bingo.
Tumblr media
Sadly, they needed an account–but they seem to be interactive in some way? I don’t know how that’d work. Clicking the links gets you nowhere.
Tumblr media
I thought I remembered them getting rid of Nsider accounts in the future–but not future enough this’d be gone, I didn’t think. Maybe they somehow lifted the restriction? Wishful thinking, but worth trying. I jumped forward. Hm. Nope. It apparently had that message for MONTHS.
Tumblr media
Huh, Pikmin food. Nice. Interesting selection of sites which also apparently had this promotion going on.
Tumblr media
Thoroughly distracted by Pikmin, now, I detour from my promised Yoshi. Hopefully this works… I eye that ‘get flash’ message with caution. (Not photographed, but there was a quiz to go with it! The actual interactive quiz is gone, but the underlying file remains. I can’t parse the answers, but the questions are still intact.)
Tumblr media
Shockingly, it works! No ‘get flash’ pages, bane of my existence they are.
Tumblr media
There were also ‘movies’ for red, yellow and blue Pikmin, along with Olimar, but sadly they show up separately and give a 403 Forbidden error.
I try to see the site in the future, but get redirected to Nintendo and thusly 404′d. Sending me back to the actual point, the Yoshi.
Sadly, going to the future there has equally disastrous results. You never will get reunited with your Yoshi. Or maybe you do, who knows. But, before I could… I was met with this. God fucking damnit. Mario taunts me with the secrets that lie beyond this screen. Before you ask, the link doesn’t work.
Tumblr media
I sigh, unsatisfied. Guess I will have to steal that guy’s Yoshi. But I’ll give them to you, too. Enjoy your Yoshi, as I hope you have enjoyed this little aimless wander through internet history, in search of Yoshis that may never be found. I wish you well doing whatever this animation is meant to be, Yoshis. Even if nobody is around to see it.

Fun Paper Mario trivia which may be stated elsewhere but I don’t know these sorts of things: According to the 2001 website, he has a diary, containing ‘private secrets’. Sadly the contents are lost to time, as far as I’m aware. Not on Wayback, at least. Guess Bowser can keep his secrets :p

Taking a look at the gameboy sites!
Tumblr media
Pretty basic, moderately broken. Has a link to a Pokemon site, might make a part 2 with links I find through this. Don’t get too fond of this design, it doesn’t last long.
Tumblr media
Then there’s this design...
Tumblr media
Which doesn’t really change for the SP.
Tumblr media
Taking a quick detour, the Player site comes with music! Thank you so much, sites that you can TELL you have flash, instead of them just locking you out when you have Ruffle RIGHT THERE, and the only thing stopping you is actually THAT SCREEN THAT TELLS YOU TO DOWNLOAD FLASH. Agh.
Rant done.
In 05, we have our first of a couple sites for the Micro.
Tumblr media
Not too fancy, but it works. There’s a WAY cooler one up ahead.
Tumblr media
This sleek site from 06, nothin loads though lol
Tumblr media
The Micro site has a cool intro and sound effects! Also wallpapers--I nabbed the one based off the flower :)
For some reason, there’s a nearly year-long gap in archives, the one that is there is nonfunctional. By the end it’s same as ever, so hopefully we all didn’t miss much. It stays like this until 2011, in which it begins just redirecting over to Nintendo’s site.
That was fun :D
