what happens when in the middle of your friendship,
that said friend starts to show their true colors?
and you realize you’re not compatible anymore?
it’s okay to cut them off
because its not them with the problem,
it’s you that changed.
you’re growing
learning,
and with that friendship you learned that nothing is
permanent.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒚 𝑹𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝑩𝒚 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔 A short story written by; Patricia Villegas
“Best not to dwell on dreams and forget how to live.” - J.K. Rowling
In a small village just outside of town lived a very special young man.
He had no family.
He had no friends.
And he had no name,
But he was special because he was raised by books.
When the man was a young boy, the village witch took away his family, and everything he
healed dear away from him and he was left with nothing but the books in his father’s study.
Sometimes the books spoke to him. Telling him of things that were more than just stories.
It was the books that taught him everything he knew.
It was the books that taught him everything he needed to know about the world.
From learning how to cook,
how to clean,
how to  sew his own clothes,
and how his body worked.
These special books were also his teachers.
They taught him about the world, Its past and its present.
Its laws and it’s rules...
What was real and what was not.
He loved the books and they loved him just the same.
However, one fine summer's day, He woke up to find that all those books were gone.
While he was asleep, in the dead of night,  they were snatched away from him. And no matter how far and wide he searched -
The books that raised him were nowhere to be found.
In the distance of his study a cloud of purple smoke appeared.
Across him materialized the witch.
The witch laughed as it greeted him and the boy looked at the witch with sorrow in his eyes.
“What have you done with my books?” He cried, and the witch only replied with a laugh.
“It’s time for you to grow up, my dear boy.”
The witch snapped her fingers and then just like that, she disappeared.
The boy blinked once, twice, thrice  and -
“Clarke, Clarke! Time for dinner!” An unknown yet familiar voice called in the distance.
“Clarke!”
“I’m coming!” The boy replied even if he wasn’t so sure if it was for him.
The boy followed the direction of the voice and found it in the kitchen,
And there stood a woman cooking by the stove,  a man reading beside the dinner table,
and a little boy and girl, playing tug of war. The boy was perplexed,
For he’s sure he’s never met these people before.
“Hello?” He called out and the woman turned around to face him. “There you are my boy, I
I was wondering where you’ve been disappearing to these days.” The woman replied, as if
she’d known him all along.
But the boy was growing more and more confused by the second.
“I’m sorry?” He asked. “Do I know you?”
“Oh, don't be silly, love. I leave for the market just for a little while and he forgets who I am?”
“Oh, forgive him.” The man sitting by the dinner table responded.  “I’m surprised he even came down, Always so busy with his books he forgets we’re just right
here..”
“Oh, those damn books. Well, never matter, supper is ready. Time to eat children. Clarke,  will you join us?”
The boy blinked once, twice, thrice - nevertheless, he shrugged, sitting down with the family and joined them as they said their grace and ate.
It was then that the boy realized that the family that was taken away from him, once upon a time, never left him at all.

i had a pretty bad incident today while walking the streets of my neighborhood. i needed to pick up a delivery across the condo where i live, just a few blocks away, and my day turned sour due to disgusting dirty old men, that stared at my chest and ass. note that none of what i was wearing revealed my private parts. no bra straps showing, no cleavage showing. in fact, the top was lose and my shorts were lose. can i just say i hate filipino men. these are times i really hate my culture for being so green minded. when i was abroad, i never had a problem with stares from men, young and or old. it was mostly the people from my culture who made comments about what i was wearing, which goes to show how much the philippine society and the patriarchy are over glorified and put on a pedestal. its high time our society raises our sons to be decent people and not sociopaths. thank you for listening to my ted talk.

Chess isn’t always competitive. Chess can also be… beautiful. It was the board I noticed first. It’s an entire world of just 64 squares. I feel safe in it. I can control it. I can dominate it. And it’s predictable, so if I get hurt, I only have myself to blame.          Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon in THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT (2020)

We lay my love and I beneath the weeping willow. But now alone I lie and weep beside the tree. Singing 'Oh willow waly' by the tree that weeps with me. Singing 'Oh willow waly' till my lover return to me.
⚠️caution! spoilers ahead -
A good horror film requires a good director who’s a master at manipulation; From sound design, cinematography, the lore and raw emotions, a film maker has got to unlock a chest and release emotions that dig deeper than fear. Feelings, such as; love, jealousy and constant fear for the unknown are what make a horror flick convincing.
Mike Flannagan embodies all of these tropes in the second  season of "The Haunting" Anthology. Bringing back familiar faces but with a whole new plot, However, does not disregard the show’s overall theme on the universal aspect of love.  Making it a stand alone show at its own right.
We are introduced to a young American woman, a former teacher now residing in London to escape a traumatic past in London. She seeks out to fill a position: an au pair or governess to two children who reside in the infamous Bly Manor in the country side. As Dani settles in her knew position as au par in Bly Manor, she finds herself discovering the houses’ old secrets and the family that resides in it.
While I loved the first anthology  the Haunting of Hill House's immensely, Bly was probably the series that I rewatched excessively.  However, At first watch, one might find themselves not liking it. Having been used to the psychological horror of Hill House, one would expect some sort of continuity with this genre, finding most of the storyline's presentation cliché as if it were trying somewhat too hard to mimic Ryan Murphy's American Horror Series, another notable anthology dealing with the same genre. However, unlike Ryan Murphy, Mike Flannagan manages to bring in old horror tropes and make them appear new and fresh. After all, a cliché is a a cliché because it is the understood truth. And Flannagan rehashes these certain old but universal truths in The Haunting of Bly.
However, It's the kind of story that as an audience, you’ll have to back track. Certain hit and miss scenes are present in this masterpiece such as - spoiler alert! - Dani's hand on older Jamie's shoulder at the end of the series, which is a rather sly and clever way to kind of put emphasis on the story’s message, if not a clever, representation of the show’s message: that there’s a fine line between love and possession, and the ones who truly love us never leave us.
On the subject of ghosts; the figments in this movie are actually visible and tangible. Whereas in comparison to the series' predecessor, The Haunting of Hill House, which dwelled on the psychological aspect of the human mind and its limits... The  Haunting of Bly's ghosts are directly in your face, and easier to catch. The lore of the spirits are cleverly crafted on how the ravages of time eventually erodes all things - the loss of their faces is a loss of the humanity that they once had.
Based on this understanding, The Haunting of Bly is not for everyone and not a piece of storytelling one will appreciate on the first watch. Haunting of Hill House is agreeably more of a crowd favorite, and many will find this new style of storytelling a little bit off. However, that is due to the fact that the Haunting of Bly is a plot no stranger to the world literature. A plot that does not exactly explore new tropes and even characters in the horror genre.
One might even remark that these characters are not fully developed, but that’s because they are not characters at all. They are representations of real people. We will, at some point, find ourselves relating to a character in this story. From The cook being trapped to care for his sickly mother, To the housekeeper’s acceptance over her death, to Dani who throughout the show battles demons of her own, The message of the show is not rocket science.
It is after all, a love story just as much as it is, a ghost story.
