Hello Sandakan, and this afternoon, I had the incredible photography moment as a SunBow appeared when I was taking photos of the St Michael's Church here in Sandakan, Sabah. At first, I wondered what was that ring, and looking up, I could not believe that the Sun Rainbow was right above the church. This was truly one of the photography moments that you do not expect. Royal Floria 2022 this morning for the special media preview. Some photos taken during my early walkabout around here, while waiting for Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia to arrive and officiate the royal event. Royal Floria 2022 opens tomorrow and ends on the 4th of September, and is perfectly timed in conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day on Aug 31st. This is also Malaysia's biggest flower & garden show that is held yearly at Anjung Floria in Putrajaya. I attend the media preview every year and it just keeps getting better & better. Exploring smartphone photography at Port Klang's Tanjung Harapan with my Galaxy S22. Reflections sometimes make interesting subjects, and moments like these are always ad hoc for me. This simply means there was no planning whatsoever. You see an opportunity, you go in, shoot and you're done in under 2 minutes or less. Being a content creator has many different levels and expectations, and it all depends on how far you want to go with your content. To me, simplicity still reigns without going overboard or trying too hard. I'll be honest here, back in my early days of IG, there was no such thing as content creator, influencer or KOL, these only came around in 2016 onwards. And it fully evolved around 2020 when the pandemic hit everyone. Nowadays, I notice people going all out to be better then the other, to be different, to challenge themselves. I guess, this is the change that many are forcing themselves to aspire beyond. My content is still very old school, none of those lightroom or additional apps to enhance images. I still use conventional IG tools to edit my photos, if needed to. While at Kuching a few days before the Rainforest World Music Festival, I took the opportunity to explore some the night scenes around the Kuching Waterfront in Sarawak. This photo shows the majestic Dewan Undangan Negeri or DUN building opposite the Sarawak River and, in natural reflection. I've always been a huge fan of smartphone photography and sometimes when you look at things differently, the outcome can be quite interesting. I used a Galaxy S22 and a puddle of water for this shot, with some locals admiring the view of the DUN building. After the #RWMF2022, I'm back in Kuala Lumpur before I start my next journey to explore another beautiful city in Sarawak for #borneojazz2022. I took this sunset photo about 10 years ago, at Miri, #Sarawak and using my old Nikon D90. Wow, that was a decade ago! How time flies, and I still remember those days when photography was such a joy without the pressures of social media and editing apps. Nowadays, technology has caught up so much that photography has become a common hobby, and photo enhancing softwares like Lightroom has, in a way, taken the fun away from 'True Photography'. However, many have changed with the times, but I am still a strong believer in composition, right settings and the most important - passion. As always, I do my best to go for straight-out-of-camera photos where I do not need to edit the photos. Back to the photo, Sarawak has always been one of my go-to places due to the natural landscape and beauty which is hardly explored. In due time, I will be organising a photography trip to Sarawak for anyone who is interested to travel the road less travelled with me. The last Tin Mining Dredge in Malaysia can be seen at Tanjung Tualang, Perak. Malaysia was a country that produced the tin for more than a century, starting in 1820 until 1982 when the Malaysian tin industries declined due to the falling world's tin price. This monster of a machine is called TT5 and weighs an incredible 4,500 tons. Now it has become a attraction in Perak where visitors can learn about the history of tin mining and the function of the dredge. Kuala Lumpur's vibrant building murals that are seen at several key tourism locations. This mural is easily seen at the River of Life by Masjid Jamek, and if you look closely, you see an citizen taking a phone break at a bench there. During my recent private #KLPhotoWalk, I took a visitor from Melaka who has not visited Kuala Lumpur in over 25 years, and he was astonished on how much has changed in the last 2 decades. KL city is fun to explore, provided you know where & when to go for some beautiful photos. Looking up in Kuala Lumpur, the "city of dreams" for many from around Malaysia, and some other countries. KL city is also part of my home as I grew up in both Kuala Lumpur & Petaling Jaya or PJ. I spent a good part of my teenage years in and out of KL, when things were much more simple. I've watch the metropolis grow from a 3rd world city into one of the fastest growing modern cities in the world. After my school days, I took a weekend DJ job at one of KLs most impressive underground dance clubs of the late 80s called "Cave", which used to sit under the current Petronas Twin Towers before it was built. This location used to be part of the Ampang Race Course back then. So, I've been around here from way back, seeing how things were & how they are now. And just last week, I stood at the area where I once spent my nights underground till the wee hours of the morning. How time flies in Kuala Lumpur.
