Obsessed with the Emma final confession because like the Pride and Prejudice one is sweet and restrained and the Northanger Abbey one is so joyful and we don't even get Mansfield park and sure Persuasion is harrowing but it's in a letter and then the Emma one is just two people having An Absolutely Horrible Time outdoors.

All Gwen wanted was to be married to Arthur. She wanted to be his Queen and yet, she spent longer as sole ruler of Camelot than she did Arthur's wife.

Mrs Croft is such a cool and underrated character
She travelled the world! In a time where the most exciting journey - for a woman - was visiting London.
She saw foreign culture, foreign people, in a time where women weren’t even allowed to vote and most of them stayed at home their whole life. And she dreamed of traveling even more, seeing more, going beyond the known sea.
And she is talking about the war, a political thing, in a time where politics and interest in politics was mostly associated with men.
And it was completely okay for her to say things like that because she was married to a admiral

It means so much to me that Margaret gets to have sometime to recover at the end of North and South. After all the loss she’s experienced, to have time to be quiet and put everything in its place *before* the final reunion and resolution to the romance.
It’s something that is often missing from more modern drama/romance books - everything is so fast and you don’t see the recovery or time to rest.
I don’t know where I’m going with this, it’s just good to see Margaret, our main character (for all that we get Thornton’s pov, the book was originally named Margaret Hale for a reason) take time to tend to her emotional health and assert her own independence, showing that outside of any romantic relationship, she’ll be all right.

I firmly believe that if you put book!Mrs Thornton up against fairies she’d be able to outsmart them pretty easily. She’d be pissed as hell at having to deal with them but she’s a woman careful with her words.
She’s over here playing lawyer for a deathbed promise with Mrs Hale, those fae wouldn’t stand a chance.

I honestly think the scenes of greatest intimacy in Austen are those moments of unspoken solidarity between people when they have to deal with a difficult person: Emma and Mr. Knightley handling the crisis of snow at Christmas, Darcy and Elizabeth curtailing Caroline Bingley's bitchiness to protect Georgiana in the music room, Wentworth seeing the child clinging to Anne's neck and wordlessly removing him, Edmund and Fanny dancing silently together at the end of a long ball, just enjoying being introverts together away from the Crawfords, Col. Brandon fetching Mrs. Dashwood because she would be of comfort to Marianne and Elinor...

thinking about all the ways jane austen would’ve dragged me in her letters to cassandra if we had met. would i be entitled to anything other than the abbreviation of my name? would i deserve the compliment of rational opposition? would she take leave of me and send compliments to my mother? or perhaps she would believe me at difficulty to be limited to say only three things very dull indeed?

Nothing funnier than the immediate absolute chokehold Margaret unknowingly has over John. Like her and her dad were just casually like we're stuck with that ugly ass wallpaper. Damn. That sucks. Anyway what's for lunch?
And i imagine John after getting their landlord to change it goes to wherever they tossed it at ripping it more on his own acting like a mob boss like if u EVER show ur face around my Margaret again ur fooking ded yew 'ere meh?
As he's shredding the paper under his boots
