HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MAMA AFRICA @yemialade ; A Sentient being with unequalled human-like knowledge and intelligence....One who creates Awareness wherever she goes, An Awareness with Purpose! Met Yemi (early 2000s) when she was in the Girl Group "Nutty Spices" and it was always a delight to talk to them on the RedCarpet (my Soundcity heydays) and when she went solo with "FIMISILE" (an evergreen jam that @walenut @olusholaremi and I disturbed the peace with), I was always a FAN! Even when she was at the "blue hostel" near Oyadiran in Sabi, she was always gingered to WORK! @ibayoomisore had called me about a certain producer based in Ikorodu then, the indefatigable @deetunesagain and when I reached out to Yemi to jump on a track with FLOWSSICK and have DeeTunes produce it, she came up with the Verse/Hook/Bridge in 30 MINUTES! RECORD BREAKER L'OMO! One Story we laugh about constantly is an episode I dragged her with me to a certain show in Abuja. The late Goldie was billed to perform so I plugged Yemi in. Time for payment after the show (The Client was a trusted one so I no fear) and only Yemi and Goldie were paid. "Ah ha! Where my own na?", I asked. "I didn't ask you to bring this "Ghen Ghen" girl so I've given her your money!". The client said. "Ewwwweeeeeeeé!", I muttered. One chance leleyi! 🙆🙆🙆🙆🙆 But look at YEMI now; Global Domination l'omo! SO EFFING PROUD OF YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARLING! You're such a Hardworking Amazonian (doing half splits in Heels), your Discography is unrivaled and you've gone through the Waters of life but it didn't sink you. The waves only pushed you forward!! Life is an Appetizer and I'm the Entrée! MCM for the day goes to no other person but DENRELE WEREY! Lil story; I got invited to a prestigious event (I had absolutely no idea about) save for the dress code and theme: HAVANA NIGHTS. "Cool", I thought! Got dressed and when I got to the venue, behold it was the "Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Alumni Network Annual Ball". (It's called the MAY BALL but happens in June). "I kuku didn't attend any of these Institutions", I muttered to myself. "There's no way on Earth anyone will bring a Mic to me to even comment on anything! Opé o! Lemme find a back table and drink all their Champagne atí Gbogbo Havana 7 Course Meal!", I mused. Settled in at the farthest table with @oba_x @walenut @zaddydaddyace @demola.adedoyin and 2 other ladies, we had barely started to enjoy the evening when I noticed Lady @bolanleaustenpeters and as I stood up to greet her, she pulled me aside and thrust the Microphone in my hands. "Denrele jor. Take over this event now", I could sense the slight panic in her voice. "HA! I attended St Gregory's College OBALENDE and Unilag in AKOKA, Ma. There is no Oxford and Cambridge in my résumé", I said jokingly. "Do your Magic", she insisted. I looked at my friends at the table and @oba_x gave me a thumbs up sign! In a nutshell, I turned the building UPSIDE DOWN; Got all the dignitaries present to have a BLASTTTTTTT! I was in my element and cracked everyone up vicariously whilst ensuring there was not a dull moment. (And I had no prior knowledge this Alumni existed; 30 years in the game and waxing strong). Took over the AfterParty as well! Needless to say, Don't stay seated in the back row of any (your) show, Stand up and move to the Stage! (And of course, Dr Timi Austen-Peters compensated our Ministry the next morning). P.S: My PRESENCE anywhere is a PRESENT! After a good Dinner, one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations! And that’s how we all forgave my younger sister, Ronke for vanishing on us during her Birthday. Set her up nicely this past evening and such a fun outing we had at @maple.lagos (who even served us Complimentary Entree’s with the most amazing Staff ever!).
