Regis & Dettlaff (B&W canon things).

I had a longer rant but maybe that’s for another time so here’s a list of things that make my hyperfixate on at night and cry and I need someone else to be upset over them too. - Regis and Dettlaff used to run in the same peer group. They often mocked Regis’ dependency on blood, but that was a tool he used to be accepted by the others because he felt like an outcast. Dettlaff chose to leave regardless of what he thought at the time of Regis because he realized this behavior wasn’t interesting or healthy/worthy of his time. After abusive friendships and a relationship that ended in a fallout, a drunk flying accident that cost him 50 years in regeneration, and after the evens of Vilgefortz, Dettlaff came across Regis’ remains. The last picture he may have had of Regis may not have been savory, but his love and drive for a pack/family was so strong he dedicated painstaking time and attention to bring back someone he may have at one point despised. - Regis and Dettlaff suffer from the same insecurities but manifest it in different ways. Regis constantly feels at odds with his identity and duty as a vampire, disconnected from his own people, and bears some interest and resentment for humans. Yet, the single time he was able to find found family with Geralt and his hansa, it cost him his life. He secluded himself away in large part from humans, participating in their lives only to help, and removed himself largely from other vampires out of the dissonance he felt with his own identity. Dettlaff is driven by his identity as a vampire, but he’s more ‘beastial’ than other higher vampires, almost ‘naive’ and simple, and so while friendships, even those born out of simple kindness - like that of the Duke - weigh on him heavily. He is an extremely sensitive personality, and removes himself from the world to strive for a simple and emotional life, choosing to spend time with lower vampires over that of his higher blood peers and humans. - Both participate in hobbies  that contribute to the wellbeing of others’ lives; Regis practices medicine and enjoys alchemy (let’s not forget booze brewing!) and Dettlaff fixes toys and makes art. - (Spoilers?) If Dettlaff lives, he personally banishes Regis, vowing to kill him and Geralt if they cross paths ever again. Dettlaff was understandably one of the few higher vampires Regis could tolerate - would certainly in some small measure oppose Orianna’s activities - because he was more ‘human’, and simply accepted Regis. He clearly cared for him. If the gate to their world ever opens, Regis and Dettlaff will never likely be able to see one another/join their clan. If Dettlaff dies, Regis is anathema to his people, and they attack him out of duty whenever their paths should cross. He is forced to choose a life of true loneliness or to only live life as a human - until he drops his guard and they turn on him. What’s worse, if the gate to their world ever opens, Regis will likely never be able to return.

And another thing...

I think a lot about how Daud puts his hand on the Geezer’s; the game doesn’t give you an option for interaction, it shows you that Daud has some compassion towards the man. Additionally, the way Mr. Hat interacts with Daud, the way he speaks, calling him ‘boy’ at some point (if I remember correctly, it’s been a hot minute since I played the games) and being so satisfied, even proud, saying, “You did it! I knew you could...” when you complete what he asks of you, makes me think of a younger Daud having done missions for the Geezer, them having a father/son relationship at some point before Daud grew to be an infamous assassin and leader of his own group. Anyways, I’m real soft for people having game-historic relationships with Daud, where you get to see that they trust him, know him, and moreso when he has compassion for them/a show of trust.

back from germany, first day back I started working on this again and I decided I’m gonna retire it and cut my losses. I have a crap ton of projects littered over 18 months since when I first got my tablet the january of 2018, this being one of the older ones. Since then how I color things and do lineart has really changed and I’m fine with leaving this as a more sketchy kind of dealio I gotta finish a lot of dishonored projects from around that same time as well and some league stuff and I keep filling my desktop with dnd sketches but I gotta focus on finishing one thing at a time oofta
