the barbie movie is such an important piece of media. it didn’t teach me anything about feminism or womanhood/girlhood, but seeing my experience being portrayed with so much care and with all its nuance is so near and dear to my heart. it really encapsulated the paradoxical nature of the human experience and growing up in a patriarchal society. even in the form of the movie in itself which was so over the top, camp and on the nose on some of the message, jokes and metaphors but simultaneously so layered and complex. and i could talk about it for hours on end but i’ll stop here, thank you for coming to my ted talk.
