#Hamliza month is back!

What is "#hamliza month"?

#hamliza month, which is December, is just a fun little thing everyone can participate in if they want to. Main spotlight is the ship Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. Last year my dear friend saltie and I got the idea and put together a prompt list. This year, we did the same thing!

It doesn't matter if you prefer drawing, writing, editing or any other form of art! Everything is very welcomed and much appreciated!

Mind that this is just for fun and not a challenge (if you wish to treat it like one, go ahead though but make sure to take care of yourself!). You are by no means forced to do every day and every prompt! You can skip if you like to!

Eliza's phone drops to the ground. Her heart is beating fast, she swears she can hear it shatter, but, honestly, she can't hear anything except the ringing in her ears.

She's vaguely aware of Alexander calling her name, she can see him running towards her, she registers that much.

She doesn't register his reaction once he hears the news.

Mister Hamilton, your son's been in a terrible car accident, one boy was unharmed, but your son...

He doesn't need to hear the rest. He's at a loss for words. it's almost ironic, a man who always had so much to say, can't speak.

They're both thinking about this while waiting for the results of the surgery. There was an infection, and the likelihood of the surgery turning out well little to none. But they still old out hope.

From his chair that is across from Eliza rather than next to each other, Alexander cant help but look at her, he sees her eyes are puffy, she's trying her best to hide the fact that she's crying, it might work on other people, but not him.

He thinks about talking to her, he thinks about telling her that maybe, just maybe, Philip will be okay, but he doesn't know that. And he doesn't know if he can handle her looking at him with her eyes that glossed over.

Alex doesn't hear the nurse say his son didn't make it, just his wife's scream, echoing through the emptiness of the pristine hospital.

in the following months, they move uptown. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it's quiet. the loudness echoing in the Hamiltons' minds has nothing to do with a city. The noise comes from remembering. Remembering a boy who had done nothing wrong, who must have been so scared in his final conscious moments. 

And they didn't even get to say goodbye. 

Uptown Eliza is much different from her normal self. She does the same things, but not in the same way. When she calls for dinner, there's no smile on her face. When she tells the neighbors good morning, she's not as bubbly as she once was. When she sleeps, she wakes up, terrified, all she can see is her son. 

Alexander is different now too. He's there. He's present. That never happened before. During the day, he plays checkers with his daughter, he takes her for ice cream, and he reads her stories. at night, he wanders the city aimlessly. 

it's almost two am, Alex can't sleep, and it seems neither can Eliza. Before he can think better of it, he opens the door to his room, and knocks on her's. 

"Eliza?" He's careful not to wake Angelica, " Would you --" he sucks in a breath, he's faced hurricanes, armies, and political enemies, but this is easily the most terrifying thing he's ever done, "would you like to go on a walk with me? Just down the block." He hears creeks of the bed moving, and moments later, Eliza walks out. Her eyes are downcast, puffy and red, and her arms are wrapped securely around herself. She nods. 

He doesn't want it to be completely quiet. He doesn't want her to feel obligated to say anything either, but he starts talking anyways. 

he talks first about angelica, and what the two of them did today. Then, he talks about how he's torn up every letter, and deleted every email he's gotten about the upcoming election. And soon enough, every emotion he's had since Philip died comes pouring out of him. He apologizes. He apologizes over and over again. This becomes a nightly thing. Something neither of them thought would happen. 

it's a month later, a month after she lets him in again. She hasn't said anything yet, but they're standing in the garden Angelica and Alexander planted together, and he's talking about uptown, "Eliza, do you like it uptown?" It wouldn't be the first time he asked her a question and she didn't answer. This was just another part of the routine. So, he's more than surprised when she reaches for his hand. 

"It's quiet uptown."

Three words, and suddenly he's nineteen again. He's at a Winter's Ball winning the favor of the most beautiful girl at the ball. And, without thinking, he pulls her close. And the tears come pouring down her face. 

she's forgiven him, she's not sure why or when, but she's not angry anymore. 

And she thinks maybe, just maybe, it can get better from here.
