Central Bank Of Nigeria Orders Commercial Banks To Work On Saturdays Due To Naira Redesign ....... CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, while announcing the plan, had said the new redesigned notes would be released by December 15, 2022. Nigeria's apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered commercial banks across the country to open for work on Saturdays from now till January 31, 2023, to enable customers return existing naira notes. Recall that CBN had announced plans to redesign some Nigeria's Naira notes including N200, N500 and N1000. Against public condemnation, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, while announcing the plan, had said the new redesigned notes would be released by December 15, 2022, while Nigerians would stop using the old banknotes from January 31, 2023. Ramon Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, a Nigerian Instagram celebrity awaiting sentencing by a United States court, has regretted his involvement in the fraudulent schemes for which he has been detained since June 2020. Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate (UAE), in June 2020, and subsequently taken to the US, where he pleaded guilty to the charges in July 2021. The trial judge, Otis Wright, has fixed 7 November as the date to sentence Hushpuppi, according to a court’s notice obtained by PREMIUM TIMES. Ahead of his sentencing, Hushpuppi begged for leniency in a three-page hand-written letter he sent to the judge from the Central Valley Annex Prions in McFarland, California. He specifically expressed regrets for allowing greed to destroy his family name, and apologies for his actions. Mr Abbas said he would make better choices and friends if he could turn back the hands of time. “Your honour, I make no excuse for my actions and I take full responsibility for what I have done. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would make an entirely different decision and be more careful in the choices and friends I make. “Since I have been incarcerated, I have had enough time to reflect on the past and I regret letting greed ruin the good name of my family, my blessing and my name,” he stated. “I also apologise to my parents, my family members, who this case has affected their lives, my friends and well-wishers, who I have disappointed, my children even though they may be too young to understand why I’m absent in their lives, I hope someday they see this and forgive me, and I hope God forgives me too,” he said. Elon Musk Is Back Again, Agrees To Buy Twitter .......... Billionaire Elon Musk has apparently changed his mind about buying Twitter, again, and is now willing to proceed with his takeover of the social media platform. In a letter to the firm, Mr Musk agreed to pay the price he offered months ago before trying to quit the deal. The surprise reversal comes just weeks before the two sides were due in court. Twitter, which had sued Mr Musk to force the takeover to move forward, was seen as having the better case. In the letter, attorneys for Mr Musk said he intended to move ahead to complete the transaction, pending receipt of the financing and an end of the legal fight. A spokesperson for Twitter acknowledged the firm had received the proposal, adding "the intention of the company is to close the transaction at $54.20 per share" - the price that Mr Musk promised in April. The apparent win for Twitter sent its shares soaring more than 20% to more than $52 apiece. But the value remained lower than the takeover price, in a sign of lingering investor doubts the deal will go through. The bridge will be inaugurated in December and opened to traffic. According to Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, the bridge, which is in its final stage of construction, will be inaugurated in December 2022 and opened to vehicular movement. The Second Niger Bridge is a federal government project that is being managed by the federal ministry of works and housing in collaboration with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). Construction on the bridge commenced on September 1, 2018. The bridge, which is being constructed across the Niger river, will span from Asaba in Delta state to Ozubulu and Ogbaru areas in Anambra state. Atiku Promises To Support Nyesom Wike Become President In 2027 Presidential Election. Atiku To Be President In 2023 .......... PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, had a closed-door meeting in Abuja last night, to resolve their differences. The Nation reports that at the meeting, Atiku pledged to support Wike’s presidential bid in 2027 if Wike agrees to sheathe his sword and support him (Atiku) in the 2023 election. The duo and their supporters have been locked in a face-off since June when the former vice president overlooked Wike and picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate. Previous efforts to reconcile them had failed to yield any positive result. Atiku even appeared to have decided to ignore Wike, and proceeded with his campaign while the Rivers State Governor and his supporters threatened to have nothing to do with the Atiku presidential campaign. Five of the 11 state governors elected on the platform of PDP are in Wike’s camp, leading to a major crack in the party. In a fresh effort to resolve their differences, Atiku met with Wike last night where he prevailed on Wike's camp to join the campaign train of PDP. Sources close to the meeting said the PDP presidential candidate offered to back Wike for the presidency in 2027. Wike was non-committal to Atiku because of past breaches of commitment, it was gathered. The governor reportedly said he would consult his group and revert to Atiku. Sources at the meeting also stated that Wike was not excited about the 2027 prospect in view of a similar promise made by Atiku to the Igbo during a meeting with PDP stakeholders in Enugu earlier this week. DSS Arrests A Coordinator Of Peter Obi's Rally In Lagos .......... A Lagos State coordinator for the rally organised by the supporters of Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi has been reportedly arrested by the Department of State Services. The coordinator who is identified as Joseph Onuorah was arrested when he arrived in Lagos on his way from France during the early hours of Saturday. "DSS have arrested Joseph Onuorah (the Lagos coordinator for Obi rally) upon his arrival in Lagos. He is said to be returning from France for the Obi Rally In Lagos," a witness said. Rallies to demonstrate support for the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi were held in major cities around the country on Saturday. The LP candidate supporters, popularly called “Obi-dients” were seen gathering in critical locations across Nigeria, including Lagos, Kaduna, Abia, and Edo state. It was gathered that In Lagos, the supporters started the walk from the Admiralty Junction moving through the major road in Lekki. They stopped at every junction, carrying flags, banners, and other paraphernalia as they marched towards the Jakande, Elegushi axis, ostensibly to avoid clashes with the police already stationed at the Lekki Toll Gate. Recall that a Lagos court on Wednesday ruled against the convergence of the rally on Lekki Toll Gate. The court also directed the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to ensure compliance with the order.
