it's difficult to say for certain when Neil started to fall for Andrew, but personally? I think it was when Andrew gave him a spare key.

That was the moment things shifted for Neil. It was basically his first italicized "Oh." That was when the idea of Andrew and the idea of home started to mean the same thing.

There is not a doubt in my mind that Neil Josten is by far more dangerous than Andrew Minyard.

#i think .. this depends on what you mean by dangerous and when in time this is referring to #i think neil has a more warped view of violence and the world in general #i think andrew is more willing to use violence but he understands what's fucked up about it #i think neil is willing to make cutthroat deals that throw some people to the wolves as long as it keeps him and his own safe #but neil doesn't do the violence himself #so like. is the danger that neil is detached from violence he's willing to tolerate to keep people he cares for safe #or is the danger that andrew is willing to get his hands dirty #also is it that the danger is recognizable (andrew) or unassuming (neil) #so what is meant by dangerous

thinking about andrew never telling anyone about drake, or any of the others. about andrew liking that the people around him thought he was just a violent psychopath and using that as a shield.

thinking about how the people closest to him all had to see him at his most vulnerable and how andrew really feels about that.

thinking about how not only they saw, but coach and betsy showed up immediately after, and then the police took statements, and put those statements into reports when andrew wouldn't even go on record for higgins.

thinking about how the whole team knew what happened, and so did roland and everyone at eden's, and so did the press, and so did everyone in andrew's classes, and people andrew's never even met before. people who don't know him at all knew this, and probably had thoughts and opinions about it, and andrew probably hated that so much.

i agree and that's kind of what I meant to highlight with my post. He KNOWS the truth, Andrew cares, Andrew is attached, Andrew will be devastated. But Neil purposefully keeps himself in denial and doesn't let himself admit the truth, doesn't tell Andrew what he knows is coming (even though he also knows how Andrew feels about lying by omission) and convinces himself that he's doing the best thing. That's what's infuriating.

He thinks about it enough to get Andrew to take back his promise (why would he do that if he didnt know exactly what would happen if he didn't? Or exactly what that meant to Andrew?) but he still doesn't admit how it would affect anyone or tell anyone what he knows is coming.

Which no wonder Andrew is pissed at him afterwards.

neil is so infuriating.

he calls andrew out about not hating him but then he's also like "andrew won't care if i die because he hates me."

he gets mad that other people don't see how emotional and attached andrew is but then he's also like "andrew won't care if i die because he hates me."

he makes andrew drop his promise to keep neil safe on the last day of his ominous phone countdown but then he's still like "andrew won't care when i die because this is just a fling."

no wonder andrew is so pissed at him afterwards, this obnoxious mf is always talking shit about telling people the truth but doesn't even listen to himself. 💀
