Are you not afraid sometimes to be bitten or to be choked by your snakes?
Nope.
Biting comes with the territory; itās to be expected at some point, but they donāt just do it apropos of nothing. A strike will come as a result of a feeding response, being startled, or being defensive, and if they get you, itās called a ātagā. It doesnāt hurt much, usually. Being bitten is different than a ātagā. That would mean a snake mistakes a part of your hand for prey, and latches on, and that is much more painful. Iāve had a 12ā reticulated python nearly snap my wrist like that. So being bitten sucks, but Iāve learned to avoid being tagged or bitten. I have many years experience working with venomous snakes, so I use tools (the hooks and long hemostats you see in the pictures) to mitigate my risk of a bite, just as a matter of course, although all of my pet snakes are harmless. But no, I donāt fear it. I accept these animals for what they areāinstinctive, primitive beings unlike mammalsā and I like them that way.
I also donāt think much of fear, in general. Itās a liar.
As for beingā¦.āchokedā? Youāll forgive me for a little laugh-snort, I hope. No, Iām in zero danger, and once I explain more, youāll know why. Itās not your fault, fyi: there really is not a lot of education out there about snake behavior (which is why I worked doing just that for a number of years) and most people hear hyper exaggerated āfactsā about 35ft (š) snakes and huge fangs and start freaking out. Snakes are not prehistoric monsters hell bent on eating people. They mostly want to be left alone. They wrap around you when you hold them becauseā¦they have no limbs. Thatās how they hold onto a surface. A pet snake is not āchokingā itās owner by wrapping around the neck: itās trying to find a better perch on this large, warm ātreeā that wonāt stop moving. Snakes donāt look at us and see preyā¦at least not snakes at this size.
Sure, okay, a large Burmese or Reticulated python could and has harmed a person by wrapping the neck, but bear in mind: none of my snakes are that size. It takes approx 12lbs of pressure to snap a human neck. Decompression of the chest is around 45lbs. Thatās a lot of poundage and honestly, my snakes donāt weigh that much.
All of the incidents of large pythons harming or killing people have one thing in common: the snake was poorly kept, hungry and underweight. Often the large snakes are bought by dumbass dudes as a āpenis extensionā technique and, because large snakes grow rapidly and cost a lot to feed and house, they often fail at basic husbandry. The animal then gets too large and restless for its improper enclosure and is often underfed because it costs a ton to feed them at that size (12-20ā is the average, with the larger snakes being far rarer) and the owner is slipping up in other ways, too. Drugs and alcohol have been found at the scene of about 80% of these deaths. So itās not, necessarily, the fault of the snake. But who takes the blame in the eyes of the media and the ophidiophobic public? The giant, man-eating snake, of course. Never mind that they almost never, in fact, eat the person. Thatās been recorded only twice. TWICE. All other reports are spurious and hard to back up.
The snakes I keep are not capable of growing to that size. There are thousands of types of snakes, and dozens of python species. The smallest python species is only 1ā long as an adult. Only a tiny percentage grow to a length/weight large enough to harm a human, and most python species are perfectly harmless pets.
In summation, I maaay have a tiny stick up my ass about the supposed ādangerā from snake pets, and I apologize for coming off defensive, if I did. Itās justā¦these are my pets. The same way that my dogs and cats are my pets. I love all animals and I am just fine with nature being nature, red in tooth and claw. I have worked with incredibly dangerous snakes that people consider killersā¦and have them calmly crawling over my arms (not that Iād recommend that to your average snake keeper). Snakes are not monsters. They donāt harm people just for the hell of it.
I hope this helps you to understand them a bit better! Try to find a place where you can hold a snake and see how wonderfully smooth and fluid they are. Maybe seeing them just be animals, without any kind of agenda to harm, will make you appreciate them in a whole new context. ā¤ļøš

Itās going to be two books, with the first hitting shelves on July 16th, 2019. When Book 2 comes is anybodyās guess, but a year later in summer 2020 is a potential ballpark.

The next Korra trilogy
This is the one we know least about, but whatās exciting is that we know it exists at all! Korraās story isnāt over yet: we have confirmation that a new graphic novel trilogy is happening. The rumor mill says we might finally be seeing the Fire Nation, but only time will tellā¦
We can hopefully expect some concrete information about this at NYCC in October. As for a release date, expect at least a few months between the end of ImbalanceĀ and the start of this, so late 2019 at the earliest, but probably 2020.

š„ Huge news: weĀ have confirmation that more Korra comics are coming!
It was up in the air, but it is now officially confirmed that Korraās story will be continuing in a new trilogy of graphic novels, with a brand new artist illustrating, andĀ Avatar: The Last AirbenderĀ and The Legend of KorraĀ co-creator Michael Dante DiMartinoĀ continuing as writer.

We estimate that the new Korra comic trilogy will begin in late 2019.
Until then, thereās Turf Wars Part Three, the conclusion of the current Korra trilogy, out on August 22nd, followed by Imbalance, Team Avatar Tales, and An Avatarās Chronicle.
This confirmation comes via a Tumblr post by Irene Koh, the departing artist of the Turf Wars trilogy.
