A rough work by Frazetta for “Savage Pellucidar.” It would have been pretty incredible to see this as a finished oil painting.

Frank Frazetta's "Fire and Ice" Illustration (1982). Graphite on illustration board 18inches x 10 inches
The animated dark fantasy/adventure film, "Fire and Ice," was a collaboration between Ralph Bakshi and legendary fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, with a screenplay by comic writers Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas. Bakshi had always desired to work with long-time friend Frazetta, and during two separate one-week sessions between the two at Frazetta's home, followed by a one-and-a-half year stay in Los Angeles, Frazetta created tons of character sketches and basic plot situations, as seen here. Although not part of the animation itself, this battle scene serves as an introductory plot point from a cult-classic movie. This original artwork is now available at Heritage Auctions, courtesy of a private collector. Bidding closes in 7 days.

Frank Frazetta's "Day of Wrath" aka Darkwolf
This painting went through quite a few revisions. The first two versions were titled "Victorious," the third "Day of Wrath" aka Darkwolf, and the fourth and final version "Jaguar God." The final revision took place in 1994 when Glen Danzig requested a cover for his Jaguar God Comic, released January 1, 1995. Frazetta simply changed Dark Wolf's outfit, and he had the cover art ready for Verotik.
"Some of my later art, even if perhaps they lack a certain swashbuckling quality, they are hard to be too critical of. You can't criticize the painting. Everything is in the right place. The drawing is perfect, the balance is right. I don't always enjoy it as much as the older ones. They don't have that crazy, casual, going-anywhere quality, but I am aware of that, you see. There is where I am safe. I am aware of it. As long as I am aware of it, I can adjust it. I can adjust again. I have in the past. And then, really get back to that kind of pace...just work hard. Paint a lot. Get crazy. Get freer. But you know the way I work. Hell, I'll let a year go by sometimes, and then I'll sit down: "I think I'll paint a masterpiece." - Frank Frazetta (Frazetta, David Anthony Kraft's Comics #42 Interview, by Steve Rinngenberg, 1987)

“I have strong ESP. I know everything that is going to happen before it happens. The women my husband paints have the same gift. They look through you. I see my eyes in his ‘Frazetta Girls.’ They have a trance look.” Ellie points to a Frazetta painting hanging on the wall. “That is my body. That is my belly, those are my thighs, my etcetera. I’ve got a magic about me only Frank has big eyes for! I see pyramids! I mean like I’m there. Sand, stones, BIG stones. I’m sure about some Egyptian life in my past. ”

Frank Frazetta's "The Galleon" (1973) Cover artwork for paperback “Into the Aether” by Richard Lupoff (Dell Publishing)
"Talk about influence. Howard Pyle, maybe the father of American Illustration. His student, N.C. Wyeth, was shallow by comparison. My main influences are the countless European illustrators. There is a fine line between illustration and fine art. I give more of a fine art approach with a beginning, a middle, and an end. You don't really tire of my artwork. Years go by and they don't fade a bit in interest. To me, people are more terrifying than grass and rocks, which just don't move me. I can't do what Andrew Wyeth does. I want feelings. My illustrations pop out of my head...to hell with what is expected." - Frank Frazetta (1977)
Frazetta's "The Galleon" was clearly borrowed from Howard Pyle's "An Attack on a Galleon" and possibly, N.C. Wyeth's "Westward Ho!" Both Pyle's and Wyeth's artworks are in the comment section of this post.

Frank Frazetta’s “Dracula” (1970)
“I’ve always loved movies,” Frazetta says. “When I was younger we would go to the theatre all of the time. Today they can do a lot more with special effects and, yeah, they can leave you with your mouth hanging open. But I think there is a lot to be said for the mood and atmosphere of some of the older films — a lot of that is missing in movies now. Sure you can watch Dracula or Frankenstein and it might seem corny, but if you really watch, if you really give them a chance, you’ll find yourself getting caught up in the character and the story and overall mood.” (Legacy: Frank Frazetta, Edited by Arnie & Cathy Fenner)
