Tool for creating narratives, targeted on a particular person.
“One of the main problems of the current Digital Libraries (DLs) is the limitation of the informative services offered to the user who aims at discovering the resources of the DL by queries in natural language. Indeed, all DLs provide simple search functionalities that return a ranked list of their resources. No semantic relation among the returned objects is usually reported that could help the user to obtain a more complete knowledge on the subject of the search. The introduction of the Semantic Web, and in particular of the Linked Data, has the potential of improving the search functionalities of DLs. In this context, the long-term aim of our project is to introduce the narratives as new first-class search functionality. As output of a query, the envisaged new search functionality should not only return a list of objects but it should also present one or more narratives, composed of events that are linked to the objects of the existing libraries (e.g. Europeana) and are endowed with a set of semantic relations connecting these events into a meaningful semantic network. As a necessary step towards this direction, we developed an ontology for representing narratives as an extension of CIDOC CRM ontology, along with a tool for building and visualising narratives based on the ontology.”

Interactive storytelling based on historic map.
“Little-known Giovanni Merlo’s large-scale engraved map (1676) displays the rich diversity of religious life and practice in early modern Venice. The color in the Newberry’s edition enriches the detailed geography of this cosmopolitan city, allowing vibrant views into spaces such as Piazza San Marco, the Jewish ghetto and the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, headquarters for the city’s German merchants. This interactive site allows users to explore churches, convents and monasteries, non-Catholic communities, processions, and printing centers through short descriptive scholarly texts as well as images derived from the Newberry’s collections. Introductory essays on the context of the design and production of Merlo’s map and on printing in early modern Venice demonstrate how the city’s prominent role in cartography and print production and consumption come together in this extraordinary view of the city where secular and religious life were deeply intertwined.Lia Markey, Newberry Library.”

“The digital exhibition Éischte Weltkrich: Remembering the Great War in Luxembourg is a project developed by the C2DH - Centre for Contemporary and Digital History of the University of Luxembourg with the objective of addressing an important but neglected and understudied period in the history of the Grand Duchy.
Supported by the Ministry of State and bringing together the collections and expertise of some of the major Luxembourgish museums, archives and cultural institutions, the project has progressively deepened and widened its scope, aspiring to become a long-term digital resource.
In order to engage different audiences with varying degrees of expertise and interests, the website presents four independent but interconnected modes of navigation: a thematic, story-driven mode; a digital archive; an interactive geo-referenced map and a timeline. Additional sections of the website contain educational pages for the schools and downloadable academic articles. The overall structure of the exhibition remains flexible and open, allowing for the continuous integration of new material, either provided by institutions or crowdsourced.”

“This website hosts the first interactive digital map with the places mentioned in Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. As an experiment in geo-criticism and literary mapping, the project was first developed with an Early Incubation grant from the Price Lab for Digital Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania (May 2015-June 2016).“

“PeriodO is a gazetteer of scholarly definitions of historical, art-historical, and archaeological periods. It eases the task of linking among datasets that define periods differently. It also helps scholars and students see where period definitions overlap or diverge.”
