when I first realized percy might have been an unreliable narrator, my first thought was that he might have just be narrating to make himself sound more cool. beating the god of war at 12 years old? carrying the sky on his shoulders? having everyone basically fall in love with him? unrealistic, but okay, you were entertaining anyway (and we all love you) .

then we read HoO and realize that percy's unrealistic because he is FAR more scary and powerful than he ever even let on. and we love him even MORE.

i HATE the trope where a character overhears two other characters talking about them but leaves too early because they’re upset so they don’t hear character a finish their sentence and say good things about character b which leads to a shit ton of resentment and miscommunication NO stop this it’s so unnecessary and makes me sad
