S茫o Miguel, The Azores, Portugal
Our first stop after seven full days at sea was S茫o Miguel, the largest of the nine islands in the Azores archipelago.
The island is lush and green with flowering plants and trees, thermal baths and hot springs, and rugged volcanic landscapes.
Punta Delgada, the capital of the Azores, is a charming Portuguese town with cobblestone streets and old-world architecture. We didn鈥檛 spend long there though, and were quickly whisked out to the countryside.
It is said there are more cows than people on the island, which I believe because there were cows everywhere we looked.
I loved S茫o Miguel and definitely want to visit the Azores again some day, but next time it will be for a longer stay.
