couple things
my town’s fireworks were cancelled because they had hired a new company to supply the display this year, and the company ended up not having a properly certified driver to deliver the fireworks from maryland to beachwood, NJ.
everyone found this out at 2pm on july 4th.
the display was not delivered earlier because apparently there was no place to store them.
my town has been doing this for like 70 years so like. good work everyone involved.
when calls were made to the company, callers were met with an automated message informing them that the company was closed for the holiday.
amazing
mayor was Pissed beyond Pissed. this is a huge thing that my town’s been doing for decades that people invest a lot of money in. everyone’s bummed.
however
around 8:30 last night, everyone and their mother started shooting off illegal fireworks, implying that people heard about this, and immediately drove to delaware or pennsylvania, and stocked up on all the good shit that’s illegal in NJ.
not a single siren/police boat to be seen
from my aunt’s dock, i had a great view of one house on the water in particular shooting off more fireworks than everyone else, blasting music, tons of smoke and noise.
it was the mayor’s house

I will never forget the moment my abusive father used the “I turned out fine!” to defend his upbringing.
Anyone who wants kids, I want you to spend real time every day preparing yourself for what you’ll do when your child backtalks. When your child points out something you hoped they were too naive to notice. When your child is completely aware of your insecurity and fallability. When your child may exceed your capabilities academically. When your child is not just hurt but angry with you. When your child won’t take ‘no’ for a sufficient answer. When you must explain yourself to a child.
When the authority you imagined you had over them begins to waver, and they become someone so different than the fantasy you had of them before they were born.
That is going to matter the most. What will you do?

You know, I think what makes Papyrus and his boastfulness so endearing, despite egoism usually being a negative and unappealing character trait, is the fact that his self-confidence does not exist at the expense of others. He doesn’t build himself up by putting other people down; he thinks highly of everyone! He can consider himself great and admirable while still genuinely being impressed by the people around him and celebrating their accomplishments.
Papyrus understands that greatness is not a competition; it’s something everyone can win at! And even if he is the greatest, it’s only so that he can show everyone else how to recognize their own inherent value.
Papyrus believes in himself! Papyrus believes in me! Papyrus believes in you, too!

I see a lot of posts of the screencap where Hollyhock asks “Do you ever get that feeling that like, to know you more is to love you less?” which I understand may be a very relatable statement but it’s a toxic mentality. I think it’s important to include Bojack’s following affirming words. If the more someone knows you the less they love you, don’t blame yourself. You shouldn’t have to be a way for someone to love you. I mean I don’t need to explain much, Bojack sums it up pretty well here.
