I am aware that there are many terms to use to describe this and that not everyone views what they have/are as a disability, but I will use the word disability for the sake of making things easier to write and search. I am also using “official terms” for the same reason, for example ASD (autism spectrum disorder) instead of several different terms such as Asperger’s syndrome, HFA, LFA etc. I do not intend to offend anyone and if I do, I apologize, I just want to make it easier for people to find Muses with what is commonly viewed as disabilities.

hello i love nico

a lot of academic classical training surrounds the piano since it’s an approachable instrument & useful to “see” methods laid out like that. most classically trained musicians, regardless of their main instrument, can also play at least some of the piano.

piano is, of course, clearly not nico’s focus however he is very decent at it & often includes an accompaniment for his solos for the piano (as well as the classical guitar). compared to modern piano soloists, nico has about 60% of their capability

nico is extremely cautious with what he eats which makes him appear to have some sort of eating disorder. in reality, it’s just how his cptsd presents as a result of how frequently his mother* had poisoned his food or fed him ingredients that had gone bad. in his adulthood, this presents in various ways, such as frequently asking for ingredient lists (depending on his mood, this may seem accusatory or as though he’s interested in the recipe), asking if something specific had been put in it (like something he’s allergic to or, straight up poison) & then laughing like it had been a joke.

nico is the only soloist in modern time that consistently uses scordatura*, a fact that has brought him controversy. while some soloists will use scordatura when specifically playing a paganini piece, nico utilizes the technique outside of that practice.

*paganini invented a handful of violin techniques that are still used to this day. there is one, however, that fell out of practice & that would be the technique known as scordatura. scordatura is the act of tuning your violin a half step higher or lower than the typical tuning. when playing with an orchestra, it aids in projection, especially if one is using gut strings. the clash of subtle dissonance creates a brilliance the piques the interest of all listeners. scordatura is deemed no longer necessary or practiced by soloists today since we have muters to aid in projection & people have shifted to the brilliance of steel strings rather than gut strings. a good in depth explanation video: x
