I don't really like when people ascribe all of Mu Qing's actions to being good, like yeah he's misunderstood but he's not that misunderstood, he actually is petty and ambitious and cynical and most of the time he does stuff because of those traits!

He kicked Hua Cheng out of the army because he was jealous, and saying "it's not like it's good to fight in a war" was a post-hoc justification; he left Xie Lian because he wanted to pursue his ambition of ascension, not because he solely wanted to take care of his mother; he put the ghosts of Xianle to rest because he wanted to ascend, not because he cared about their suffering.

And literally all of these reasons are completely fine. He's still a very lovable character who cares about those close to him but is too scared to show vulnerability. He is canonically one of the most competent gods in the heavenly realm. He has so many great traits but I really don't think "motivated by goodness" needs to be one of them.

idk how much more of Case File Compendium I can take, I just finished the birthday sex (ch151?) and it's awful, like Xie Qingcheng consented out of pity but all of the sex is him being like "He Yu, stop it, I can't take it" and He Yu being like "ah Xie-ge I love you so much, so no, I won't stop."
