Totally random question!

Are the hair lengths on all of our jellyfish friends based on the length of the tentacles of their specific species?

//Sorta! It's more like I tried incorporating the general shape of the jellyfish into the gijinkas' hair moreso than just the tentacle length- though longer tentacles would naturally mean longer hair... though it's not a hard and fast rule.

For example, Chiaki's hair would be around shoulder length if I was going purely off of tentacle length but I decided to do try and imitate the look of upside down jellies in aquarium tanks, when their zooxanthellae tags are sticking up.

#I'd add visuals but I don't really feel like opening up medibang atm #granted I could've also had it look like dyed blonde hair and blue roots #but there's a whole bunch of cool ways to portray an upside down jelly gijinka #I'm honestly a little surprised people don't gijinka it that much haha #ask #ite! it's jellyfish love! #mun rambles

No change here, but as a fun fact: His middle name (not listed in Japanese records) is "Marino." For my Spanish speaking friends, this should be a fun easter egg, hehe.

ダー・シールベラー冠城百嘉 ルーイース(Da Silveira Kaburagi Momoka Luis)

I attempted to make a full Portuguese name, though I'm unsure how good it actually holds up (the surname was taken straight from one of the biologists who described their species, Nausithoe aurea) (It is also known as the Nausithoe maculata nowadays, by the way).

山本寒造 (Yamamoto, Kanzou)

At this rate, Kanzou has probably went through as many name changes Momoka did, but the fact that his name was so horribly made in the first place kept eating away at my conscience until I finally decided to make him a proper one.

寒 (Kan) is derived from the kanji for "cold" and 造 (zou) is derived from the kanji for "build, construct"

Hiratoki Shima

Finally figured out a new name for my jelly teacher ^-^!!

I feel like this one fits him much better, so I'm quite happy with how it came out!

Hiratoki is made up of the kanji 平 (Hira), meaning "peaceful, even" and 時 (Toki), meaning "time"

Shima is made up of the kanji 紫 (Shi), meaning "purple" and 眞 (Ma), meaning "true, genuine."

#the ''Hira'' part in particular was derived from the japanese name for the family atollidae (''hirata kamuri kurage'') #which is literally ''flat crown jellyfish'' in english #ite! it's jellyfish love! #my art #hiratoki shima #i'll get to editing the tags... later #I actually made up the name a long time ago haha #I just haven't gotten around to making art for it ;w;

HYPERDOLPHIN (ハイパードルフィン)

I realize that I haven't mentioned this very important band in Ite! that is central to Rankou's storyline so I should probably talk about it :>

Formed in his first year, HYPERDOLPHIN is pretty much just your run-of-the-mill high school band. The members are as follows:

Yamamoto Rankou (山本卵黄):

Leader / Bassist

Responsible for a lot of the planning and other management-related things for the band

Terrible at singing

Egg Yolk Jelly / Samukurage / Phacellophora camtschatica

[Last name pending] Kiseki (きせき):

Vocalist / Rhythm Guitarist

One of the founding members

A bit of a renaissance jelly when it comes to music

Cauliflower Jelly / Ibokurage / Cephea cephea

Nakachi Helios (中地ヘリオス):

Drummer

Ends up mooching snacks and spare change off of other members

Has Phasmophobia

I've spent roughly 2 hours editing jpgs of jellyfish to make into sprites ^-^

I'm nowhere near finishing the game or the planning stage, but sprite-making is a lot of fun.

#I probably would've had more luck doing it in photoshop but I didn't want to kill my laptop so medibang it was ;) #all things considered though these didn't come out too bad #I didn't even have to edit Sui's image (that one was from last year before I had to wipe my computer) #only two jellies from the list actually kept their names haha...
