Garden Update 4-17-24

My garden is not going to be up to snuff this year. Between having surgery, and finding out the squirrels destroyed every bed I had, I am going to have to reset my expectations. 12/20/23 - Surgery Schedule

Getting my surgery scheduled was a pain, not because Kaiser wasn’t willing but because I work at a bureaucratic state agency that is difficult to deal with HR on. I just had an eye surgery, and my wife had a couple of them earlier this year, so I am out of PTO for the time off. I transitioned female to male at the age of 40. The difference professionally was so profound. I am believed. I am assumed to be competent. I got hired at my last job with 3 years of experience an entire pay band above the gal hired with me with a decade of experience and clearly better than me at the job.

I have been given promotions as a de facto assumption where as a woman? I was denied again and again. I have literally not changed anything about my behavior but the assumption of competence? Just by presenting as male? I got a $50K pay increase due to those promotions.

I knew when presenting as a woman I was getting the shaft, but damn I had no idea how bad until I presented as male.

If you want to read a good book about WWII and the US’s actual activities The Good War is worth a read. I read it decades ago when I was in my 20s and it changed my perspective.

unfortunate that the united states has been very successful at controlling narratives around word war 2 and positioning itself as the polar opposite of nazism and the main force fighting fascism when america was complicit in the holocaust. not only did american press report positively about hitler and the nazi party up until the end of the 30′s, some publications cooperated with nazi germany, american companies had investments and connections to nazi germany that they maintained until american involvement in the war, and companies like ibm in particular gave nazis the technology necessary to make the holocaust possible in the first place. some company owners themselves had nazi sympathies like henry ford and others just saw it as a business opportunity. the us denied entry to european jewish refugees and deported jewish refugees back to germany, many senators and other government officials during the 1930s openly supported nazism and worked to prevent the us from taking a side in ww2, and during the 30s large pro nazi rallies were held across the us. american eugenics movement, american race laws and american genocide set the model for the holocaust and there shouldnt be any discussion of nazism and the holocaust without also discussing the extent of american complicity in it.
