Helldivers 2, Sker Ritual, and (hilariously) Suicide Squad, have all been borderline (or totally) unplayable at crucial moments thanks to their online failings. The Outlast Trials could've stood to do better, too. It's clear online-focused games are struggling to maintain themselves lately, and the fact they have NOTHING to offer players beyond their broken features is a real problem.

Sker Ritual continues the trend of online games being borderline unplayable at launch, and that’s about all it contributes to the medium of interactive entertainment.
Strangely, I was looking forward to it quite a bit. I’m fond of Maid of Sker, and the idea of turning a lesser known indie horror into COD: Zombies is so stupid I admire it. Plus it would be great to play such a game without attachment to a publisher known for its promotion and encouragement of sexual harassment.

All the way down, the theme of “not enough” pervades Princess Peach: Showtime! The costumes Peach wears look cute but their gimmicks are limited both in terms of their abilities and the game’s implementation of them. The lack of imagination is unbecoming of Nintendo, and it’s a real shame because Peach deserves a much better game. It’s like nobody’s heart was in the making of this, and while there are some entertaining moments, Showtime! simply has very little to show for itself.

Life Is Strange has been called an "SJW game" by chuds around the world, but maybe they'll start appreciating it now developer Deck Nine has come under fire for an IGN Report detailing abuse, bigotry, and harassment. Either way, as the company hides behind diversity to dodge the allegations, we can take a look at what real virtue signalling looks like!

Rise of Ronin really likes its players, and that’s what I love most about it. While its world features a lot of busywork, it’s also a joy to explore thanks to how easy and versatile movement is. An enthralling combat system openly traces the best of Sekiro and Nioh, serving the extract in a more accessible fashion with a huge variety of ways to fight. While co-op is restrictive, it’s still really funny to go online and turn bosses into confetti, plus you can run a cat rental service.
Excellent stuff.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 would be repulsive enough if Capcom was just being lazy when it made a shockingly unimproved sequel to a game that felt archaic in 2012. However, since this bullshit launched with 21 in-app purchases including microtransactions to speed up an excruciatingly slow experience, it really can go chuck itself in the ocean.

It couldn't be about any other subject this week. Capcom has taken the absolute urine with Dragon's Dogma 2, its 21 in-app purchases including such egregious paywalled features as fast travel. Given how the game hasn't changed since 2012, this is damn disgraceful.
And it's what Capcom's been getting away with for a long time.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is operating on another level.
If Final Fantasy VII Remake made anything clear, it’s that it was very specifically not a remake of Final Fantasy VII. Its title instead referred to a quasi-meta narrative about rebuilding an iconic world on every level. Having gotten away with an audacious curveball once, Tetsuya Nomura and his team of professional desecrators lost their damn minds for their second crack.
The result is madness and brilliance, both of which run unchecked.

A.I. advocates love to pretend they're real artists, and claims of plagiarism are little more than appropriative attempts to steal a sense of validity. Let's look at how these hacks justify themselves and see how little techbros understand the concept of hard work.

The Outlast Trials immediately nabbed my curiosity upon announcement. Exactly how would Red Barrels turn a game primarily about hiding into a team activity? What can you do to the influential but highly specific Outlast formula so four players can scuttle about in the dark while being pursued by spicy portrayals of mentally ill people?
The answer, of course, turned out to be rather simple.
Red Barrels did almost nothing to the basic formula, and the result is something that works weirdly rather well.

The overstuffed genre of survival crafting games is little more than a blur of flimsy pickaxes and exhausting resource menus to me at this point. Not only are there too many of the things, almost all of them offer the exact same experience with barely even aesthetic differences between most of them - an experience largely built on repetition, micromanagement, and a lot of babysitting various life-or-death resource bars.
Pacific Drive ought to represent everything I hate. It’s a survival crafting game with a hell of a repetitive loop and extreme amounts of fiddling around in little menu grids…
… and I bloody love it.

there are still people in the notes of that thread failing to grasp that this isn't a hypothetical for me. I know trans people up here who had their front door covered with 'I ❤️ JKR' and 'adult human female' stickers. there are active terf groups who harrass queer cafés and bookshops and use her name as an in-group identifier on signs and t-shirts at protests and at pride. she actually personally funded a trans exclusionary women's crisis centre in edinburgh, after her followers hounded and harrassed an inclusive service into shutting down. she is a tangible threat to trans people here.
