I’m so sorry but in the nicest way possible do yall actually read books or just read words??? Cause I’ve been seeing that trend of people not understanding how “snarled” and “eyes darkened” and “eyes softened” etc. was used in a book and like…
Genuinely, do yall just not have imagination?? Or not understand figurative language??? Also eyes do literally darken and soften have you not lived a life??? How do you read with no imagination? Is this how you get through so many books in one month - you simply don’t take the time the understand the words as they are read?

Realized the reason I’m so burned out and why I can’t seem to do anything creative is bc I’m cursed with not only perfection but the envy of comparison which is, indeed, the thief of joy. And it seems no matter what I do I cannot combat this.
Shit sucks man. Literally. Bc everything I do is horrible trash. And it’s why I haven’t bothered in months.
Like bro I can’t even be happy with my Minecraft houses how can I write a book if I can’t even be happy in a children’s block game

It matters on the WIP. Some do have specific themes I want to tackle. Others start as “haha horny” and end up with a theme anyways.
Either way I usually discover themes as I write and discover what themes touch me most as well during the process. Then I just lean into whatever ends up interesting me the most
ok writeblr i have a question and it does not matter if you answer re fanfic or original work:
do you nerds know what themes you intend to tackle in longer works before you start, or are the themes a fun little surprise you don't uncover until the nth draft?

I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:
Fictional characters are objects.
They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

I sit down to like. Try and string some plot lines together or to write a sentence and arughhhh nope nothing happens it’s like *dial-up screeching*
I may go back to dabbling in a little fanfic since that’s. A bit easier? Idk tho…

I hope they can get your account fixed!! That really fuckin sucks and it happens way more often then people realize
So yeah, in case you hadn't caught what happened last night (see here), my account got borked hard, so basically, most of the functionality got wiped. The tl;dr of it is that I cannot:
Send asks
Receive asks
Message people
Reply to posts
Tag people
Be visible in notifications (my own or yours)
Be visible in tags (probably not related but also on the list)
Basically do anything except toss posts onto people's dashes and hope I'm seen, as literally the only thing that's visible are my posts on your dashboard.
Needless to say, that makes interacting with people—responding to your posts, doing tag games, etc—a teensy bit difficult. I've reached out to support, but it might take a bit before things get resolved. Hopefully less than a week, as Lich said. :')
UNTIL THEN, I'm taking a week off Tumblr to go work on the other socials. If you'd like to keep up with daily TNS snippets, literally the last thing I did before my account broke was put together the Discord, but I'm hoping to work on other sites too.
Here's a full list of places where you can find me for the rest of the week:
The shiny new Discord (Most likely place to catch word if I end up leaving Tumblr or remaking.)
Bluesky (Second most likely place to catch word if I end up leaving Tumblr or remaking.)
Instagram
Cohost
Because of the way my account got borked, this message will repeat every couple of hours. Apologies, all! If you've seen this post and do not want to see it again, blacklist the tag the great borking of 2024.
Thanks for your patience! See you in a week!

Hot take: Actual literary analysis requires at least as much skill as writing itself, with less obvious measures of whether or not you’re shit at it, and nobody is allowed to do any more god damn litcrit until they learn what the terms “show, don’t tell” and “pacing” mean.
