a deep appreciation for the bond between people and their pets

a steady presence, knowing how to calm an animal in distress

careful notes, being sure not to miss anything

working to prevent zoonosis of diseases

examining the connections between the health of animal and human populations

steady, confident hands

cool mornings with the dew still on the grass

volunteering at local animal shelters

not being able to pick a favorite animal

arguing against purely aesthetic procedures

frustration with people who don’t treat their animals with respect

memorizing the signs of a variety of conditions and diseases

a commitment to giving pets long, healthy lives
