Merry Christmas, everyone. 🎁
Sauron is intelligent. The complexity of his plans should match that of his character, so it is understandably difficult to uncover the details… but not impossible.
This is an attempt to unravel the mysteries of Sauron’s past, which is separated into two parts. Part 1 broadly covers Sauron’s intentions regarding mithril and all peoples, while Part 2 specifically relates to the dagger and Galadriel. This branching begins around the time of Finrod’s death. The clearest lens through which to study Sauron’s plan is, unequivocally, the tale of Beren and Lúthien.

LET'S TALK ABOUT MOBIUS'S HEAVY KEYS
I wrote a meta on S1 Mobius here, mostly exploring his interrogation persona and emotional trajectory toward S1E6. I also have a fun little list on all the things I love about him here.
@mitromana posted about how we should talk about Mobius's sass and even cruelty more. @wowwwmobius posted how Mobius realistically would not be doing well post-S2E6 (I wholeheartedly agree), and they and @inwantofamuse shared amazing comments. All of this inspired this meta.
Thank you @mitromana @wowwwmobius @inwantofamuse!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mobius's interrogation scenes are him at his most cruel and ruthless. The flipside of being a highly empathetic person is that it is very VERY easy to use this skill in highly abusive, cunning, and powerful ways. This is especially true if the person armed with this skill is exceptionally intelligent and is convinced their motivations are good. At the TVA, before Loki's exposure of the truth, Mobius is both of these things. Worse, he has access to the TVA's more ethically unconscionable technology, which he does not hesitate to use.
The road to evil is paved with good intentions. Mobius strolls onto this road more than once, but he manages to not stay on it because two people curb this risk: Loki and, yes, Sylvie.
Tumblr media
Take in Loki's words and posture in this scene. The words alone are a frail and weak comeback for a silver-tongue God of lies. They do nothing but reveal Loki is in FACT scared. His arms are crossed tightly over his abdomen, a primal protective response. He's leaned as far away from Mobius as possible. This is the best Loki can come up with in the face of a boring man in a boring suit, really?
You can see why Mobius was moved into the position of Analyst from Hunter. He may not be able to prune children, but he can literally bring a God like Loki to the ground, breathless, confused, and frightened, with nothing more than WORDS. And this is with a variant Mobius likes. Imagine what he can do to a variant he hates.
For HWR and Ravonna's purposes, Mobius is the perfect weapon to get whatever they want out of whatever variant they capture before sending them off to get pruned. How do they keep him from questioning anything?
Memory-wiping (more than once), brainwashing, propaganda, and:
Tumblr media
A little something for Mobius's identity, something that fulfills his intrinsic need to take care of others while also gently stroking his ego.
Yes, the genocide of multiple timelines over the span of eons is horrifying. But Mobius is capable of being complicit with it as long as his environment feeds his intrinsic psychological and emotional needs. The people on the Sacred Timeline become his new children, and he will do anything ANYTHING to protect them.
There was one thing HWR and Ravonna didn't anticipate: that this man's empathy for a specific Loki would be the very thing that liberates the multiverse and his own bondage from a corrupt bureaucracy.
However...
I don't believe Mobius ever anticipated becoming emotionally compromised when he advocated on Loki's behalf. He likely genuinely believed that after centuries of studying Loki, he knew him well enough to make him useful for the TVA. But the subconscious, oh. That is a different story, and in Loki's own words, Mobius has a gift for lying to himself.
I discuss the interrogation scene and Sif loop scene in depth here, so I won't repeat myself, but I'd like to draw our attention to the 2 gifs below, framing my analysis:
Tumblr media
Imagine where Mobius's mind must be at:
I spent centuries studying you and believing in you. I waited more centuries for your nexus event to come. I tasked every hunter to inform me of your arrival immediately, no matter what I was doing, no matter where I was. I abandoned a case. I ran to your trial. I put my job, reputation, and eons-long friendship with Ravonna on the line. I tested your theory. I brought you with me on the field. You talked to me. You challenged me. You made me proud. You made me laugh.
I gave you daggers and you stabbed me. You STABBED me. When all I wanted to give you was--
Tumblr media
Mobius cracked hard and fast. Applaud Owen Wilson for THIS interpretation of the script and THIS delivery.
Thankfully, the very person who put Mobius in this fragile state of mind is also the person Mobius deeply wants to believe in. Even after being betrayed, Mobius still wants to believe in Loki and his capacity to be a wonderful person. And so he looks at Ravonna's TemPad, decides Loki deserves to be with whoever he wants to be with (even if that person will never be Mobius himself), frees Loki to help him save the woman he loves, and gets pruned for it.
Mobius survives thanks to plot-armor. And who is the first person he meets?
Tumblr media
The bane of his existence.
And Sylvie wastes no time driving a knife into a very fresh wound. Mobius, however, only recently unleashed all his rage. His reservoir for compartamentalizing has refreshed, so he can take Sylvie's truth bravely, without a flinch, and acknowledge that truth with one of his own.
Tumblr media
Mobius owns it. He doesn't deny it. He tacitly agrees with her and gives her a reason why.
We should remember how dangerous Mobius can be. He is currently sitting in a car with the variant he is most likely to hate. Sylvie is strong, clever, and resilient, but her ability to regulate her emotions is weak, especially if she is triggered. Mobius can destroy her very easily with his words.
But Mobius can't hate her. He can't. She was right and he was wrong, but most importantly Loki loves her.
He won't hurt the person Loki loves most. No. He will take her to him instead. He can stomach the pain, the disappointment. He's good at that. Loki's well-being, his happiness, comes first.
Tumblr media
In fact, Mobius stomachs Sylvie's knife twists a second time and chooses not to defend himself. I don't doubt a large part of him agrees with her. Nevertheless, he can't help but hope Loki might stand up for him in that moment. He tries, and fails, to make light of it by rolling his eyes and turning to his friend. When Loki leaves him not explaining why, his true feelings about this interaction surfaces on his face.
Aren't you going to say anything?
The saddest thing is that this is the LAST intimate moment THIS Mobius has with Loki before Loki crosses the gangway and never returns. This is it. This is what he's left with: the thought Loki didn't care enough to defend him and Loki leaving.
Tumblr media
HE doesn't get to hear that he's just trying to see in the dark and is doing everything he can to keep the surviving timelines alive. SYLVIE does.
HE doesn't get to hear Loki tell him he saved his life. DON does.
HE doesn't get the final goodbye and "thank you, Mobius", his PAST SELF does. And if Mobius happens to remember this moment in the present, he will know that he was the one who propelled Loki to bear this massive burden ALONE.
My worry for Mobius post-S2E6 is that he is more than talented at ignoring his own needs and addressing his own problems. He is infinitely better--a master, even--at taking care of anyone else. It's a devastating flaw, but it comes from a very raw place:
His heart, his soul, will always remember being a single parent.
Being a parent at all is hard to begin with. There are only so many hours in a day, and the majority of it is devoted to putting someone else's needs before your own. Being a single parent is even harder. You might have a few people to help you, but ultimately, there's no partner to share every high and low intimately. To be a single parent of not one but TWO children?
Game over.
Some viewers have interpreted Don ignoring his sons' phone calls at work as negligent. Honestly, I don't think that's the case. He will call them back. Don is Mobius and Mobius is Don. He will take care of them. But refusing every beck and call at work is the only personal boundary he has. He cannot have many boundaries for himself at home or anywhere else. He has to decline not one but two calls for his own sanity. Nevermind that he works Monday through Saturday, nine to five, to make enough money to keep them healthy and happy. Where is the break? There is none. This is Don's glorious purpose.
Mobius leaving the TVA is understandable for two crucial reasons: One, it is a reminder of all his horrifying acts and complicity. Two, it is a reminder Loki is no longer there. But by leaving the TVA, Mobius separates himself from his only support system. That's not good. That is decidely unhealthy. The fact that it doesn't cross B-15, Casey, or OB's minds that this is a very bad idea tells you everything you need to know about the number of genuinely close friends Mobius has.
Mobius has two. He walked away from one to be with the second, and the second walked away from him, too. TWICE.
But he still loves him anyway.
When you take a man like this and take away everything that's kept him functional: the TVA, Ravonna, Loki, and then show him a content life in which he cannot even be with his own children because another version of him already exists, what do you think will happen to him given we've seen how violently Mobius can snap?
And guess what: only one person has ever seen Mobius snap on more than one occasion. Only one person understands the triggers and how to handle them. I'll give you three guesses as to who it is.
Mobius "has a happy ending" is absolute bullshit. He is at risk.

Part 5 of - what the heck is going on with Mobius anyway?
S2e6- the one I can’t bear to rewatch
This was a great ending for Loki and appropriately bittersweet - hearing Mobius on the timeline missing him (and all his friends) but knowing they are safe because of what he is doing 😭😢😭. Although I hoped we might get a cute happy ending - this was no where near as terribly bleak as I thought we might be headed at one point.
Though there were quite a few lose ends including some of the themes that did not pay off … Apparently marvel vetoed the original scrip for episode 5 which might explain those (I do wonder why?) I’m sure the internet can speculate 🧐.
I can’t face a rewatch at the moment so from memory….
There are only 2 really important Mobius passages in Ep 6 (which was rightly Loki focussed).
- the historic interrogation room scene
- The final Mobius section
Interrogation room scene
Loki returns to his first conversation with Mobius essentially to get his advice. Mobius is his moral compass he wants to know what he should do.
The upshot is Mobius fundamentally thinks doing the right thing is to accept a burden - it’s not necessarily what you want to do, it’s not what will make you happy but if you don’t do the right thing in Mobius view that is not something he’d be able to bear.
This is important for his ultimate fate because he is not expecting a happily ever after.
Goodbye TVA
All the Mobius content back in the TVA “after” just speaks of someone grieving. Loki is clearly haunting every shot and Mobius can’t move on if he stays there. “You’ll find no comfort at the TVA” from the interrogation scene appears prophetic. He literally sits frozen at his desk when we first see him. His decision to go and look at the timeline is not really because he thinks the others won’t miss him (B15 makes it clear) but it’s also obvious he’s not essential either. It’s because he misses Loki too much and this is one of the last pieces of advice Loki gave him.
The timeline
Back on the timeline he has gone to see what could have been. It’s the good life he predicted, but in the end it’s not as painful as he thought because he can say that’s something he helped to protect. (describing the house as the “best on the block.”) . This reminds me of the end of Dr Strange (mom) where Strange and Wong discuss their alternatives being happy and how that’s a comfort in a way.
Loki’s absence is still felt & not just because Sylvie raises it, but also because of Mobius quoting “never look never know”. It seems to be a positive thing that Loki’s words inspired action here where in the TVA Mobius seemed completely locked in stasis.
“Let time pass”
Well thanks Mobius - what the heck does this mean!?
So in previous posts particularly running up to s2e2 Mobius seemed to be in a bad way. In fact lots of us spotted that Mobius seemed to have a death wish / was primed for some sort of sacrifice. (Falling for a god if you’re a mortal generally goes pretty badly after all).
I read “let time pass” as positive as we can expect - it’s a decision not to stop which I think was a thought lurking in the back of Mobius psyche through both seasons. It’s not yet a positive get out there and live (which Sylvie has chosen). Not yet anyway.
This is consistent with Mobius character- someone who deals with what is put in front of him, accepts it’s not all about happiness or comfort, will accept a burden and ultimately would be proud of Loki’s own sacrifice (and would not want to undermine that).
The writers say it was not a cliffhanger ending (and in general that’s right) but this *did* feel like a cliff hanger - Mobius seems to have chosen not to die but he’s not yet chosen life. He is still “no where man”.
I really really hope we check in on Mobius again in future and see him making some steps back into life.
Thanks to all the bloggers and artists out there for a really fun Loki season 2 - I’ve enjoyed the chaos - hope no one is feeling too despondent!

STUDY IN LOKI ROMANCE
Part 6: Conclusion
Tumblr media
Since we're only a few days away from the last episode, I decided to COUNT DOWN everything we´ve got so far ( that can be interpreted very easily as romantic ) and discuss what the actual fuck is going on with second season. Because even though I shipped lokius practically from S1E2, I absolutely did NOT expect this kind of development. (Not that I´m complaining)
Warning: This is gonna be LONG post, lots of screenshots, lots of SPOILERS, lot of "oh-my-god-they-so-cute" language, and little bit of meta.
I originally thought that this post would be everything at once, but since I have just too many screenshots this time around, I´ll have to split it. so every post will be one episode. Color coding means:
IIIIIIIIII = anything, that coud potentialy be just acting choice.
IIIIIIIIII = everything else (tzn.: whatever was written, and/or carefully prepared by filmmakers. )
side note: I already wrote, about how amazing it is, that Mobius is unable to fight but fights anyway and how beautifuly, and ridiculously brave he is HERE. But this is about Loki/Mobius interactions, so I´ll try my best not to talk about THAT. (Even when I´m really happy, that s2 continues with this formula and Mobius is still his completely defenseless while aggressively brave self. I love him, btw.) Here is count down for every episode:
EPISODE 1 HERE
EPISODE 2 HERE
EPISODE 3 HERE
EPISODE 4 HERE
EPISODE 5 HERE
Sooooo 51 lokius moments, that were completely and utterly unexpected, but yet here they are. Why? Let´s start with over look at what we´ve actualy got: Things that could technically be just acting choices and Tom´s and Owen´s chemistry together:
unexpected exhibition of touches
Distressed God and his Happy Face (at O. B. office)
Loki finding Mobius´s joke amusing
Loki´s head tilt and smile at Mobius (in pie scene)
"They say opposites attract. NO."
Another exhibition of touches (ep 3)
"let´s be as close as we physically can" challange (at Timley´s spech)
Loki glow up (Loki fixing himself for Mobius/Don)
Loki being very nervous and stuttering while talking to Mobius/Don.
Loki gently helping Mobius/Don through the time door. Things that are deffinitely NOT just acting choices:
"Mobius It´s me!"
"Tell me, you recognize me!"
scene in in an elevator
Mobius and Loki talking to OB.
bickering, like married couple, part 1
"Mobius if I don´t make it back" and "You´ll make it back".
Mobius risking his life SKIN for loki and refusing to give up on him.
Loki saves Mobius in an epic fashion and they end up in a hug:
matching suits part 1
Loki defending /saving Mobius from Brad (with magic!)
Mobius and Loki struggling to assemble IKEA furniture- sorry Tapmad together
" And he knows..."
Loki being very concerned for Mobius after his outburst, saying that It´s okay, and then suggests having pie
Bickering like married couple (part 2)
The whole freaking pie scene!
Loki and Mobius: mischievous duo (Breaking Brad)
Loki, not following Sylvie (at the end of episode 2)
matching suits part 2
"And they lived happily ever after..." circle transition
Loki and Mobius enjoying popcorn:
Also... Bickering like married couple (part 3)
"You know sometimes I forget, that you are one of them... Blows my mind!"
Mobius supporting Loki in using magic...
Victor/Ravonna - the most transparent mirror ever:
THE TANDEM BIKE
Loki going with Mobius, not even thinking about it anymore.
changing clothes together
Bickering like married couple (part 4)
The "misunderstanding trope"
Pie scene number two
Shot with only two of them, right before the end of ep4
Loki looking for Mobius in PIE ROOM
Loki Time slipping to the theater room
Mobius/Don casually informing Loki, he´s a SINGLE dad and telling him his entire work schedule
Loki time slipping to Mobius again (right when he started to be hopefull and Happy, that O. B. will be able to help him.
Mobius/Don dropping everything and forgeting about his two mischievous sons so he can give Loki full attention
Wanna buy my wife´s jetski?
"A beautiful union of form and function"
"You saved my life, when I first arrived. You saw something in me, that I hadn´t seen in myself."
"I want my friends back. I don´t want to be alone."
"It was more about what I wanted."
"It´s not about where, when or why. It´s about WHO."
So... let´s scrap the theory, that romantic tention is created only by chemistry between actors (though it IS amazing and also key ingredient) and their acting choices. Because so far, screenplay, and cinematography was supporting their story as well. I feel, like I should clarify, that I do not expect Lokius kiss, or blatant confirmation to happen. I was here during Johnlock debacle. And I was here, when Destiel ended... the way it ended. And I refuse to put in creators (especially when it comes to marvel/disney) any hope, that I know can be crushed so very easily. I´m not doing this shit again. If it happens? WOW! I´m gonna be surprised. very pleasantly surprised. I will litteraly never shut up about it
But I do not expect it. Not even now, when I saw, what are creators of Loki able to put out in the world. Like this for example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or this, very brutal death scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yeah, I am avare, Loki officialy CAN have male love interest, because it was confirmed in a text, that he´s a bi.
Also there was this (very misleading) article few years ago:
Tumblr media
Still. I can´t bring myself to hope for anything explicit. But I absolutely understand anyone, who have that hope. And I know, how great feeling it is, while it lasts. Anyway. I´m gonna look at all possible options, I can think of. Even some, I feel, are more possible then others. And maybe answer is not just one. It could be more things at once.
Explanation number one: Creators took notes on how season 1 was received. And they saw, that Mobius is very popular, well-liked character, his interactions with Loki were favorite moments according to majority of an audience, and decided to lean more into that, for viewer´s sake.
Same with sylvie. Once they saw her romantic relationship with Loki isn´t that popular, they decided to give her her own agency, own story instead.
Explanation number two: They genuinely think, they are showing deep friendship between two bros and nothing more. I mean... Loki getting close circle of friends and wanting to stay with them is a one of the bigest themes this season. They are trying to make a point about Loki changing bacause of them (and probably making sacrifice for them) But there is still very intentional difference between his relationship with Mobius and everybody else. Mobius is obviously the most important one of the bunch.
Tumblr media
Explanation number three:
Creators want romantic scene with Sylvie and Loki to be big surprise at the end, so they tried to show as much problems and conflicts between them, as they could and limited their screentime together.
But I personaly think, this would be stupid for many reasons:
Making Mobius and Loki focus this season caused people to rooth for them, and be invested in their relationship more.
They showed multiple times, that Sylvie wants from life very different things, then Loki and their philosophical views differ greatly.
It doesn´t look like creators put enough effort into building up this kind of ending to be satisfying. It would just feel like they´re trying to surprise / shock audience. Explanation number three: They think that what they are doing with Mobius and Loki is father/son dynamic. (I´m sorry, but this would be just hilarious. If this is the case, I would love to know, what they were thinking, when they decided to leave Owen´s line: "You´re just a little pussycat" in there. Or when they look at all those acting choices and said YES, THANK YOU. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Explanation number four: They´re queerbaiting the hell out of us. And their master plan is to make us all watch and having hope and then they will throw in the finale some last minute no homo explanation and wil laugh in our faces.
(I suppose I don't have to say how much I like this option *sarcasm*)
Explanation number five:
Creators would like to make Lokius canon, but they are restricted / they´re not allowed to. So they decided to go as far, as they can. To give us little (big) nods, to give us those beutiful scenes. To double down on everything lokius related. And they know what they can get away with before casual viewers notice that there is something gay happening. (I mean... it looks like they can get away with anything but kiss at this point :D Like seriously. I saw people talking about how beautiful Dean and Castiel´s friendship was EVEN after finale, so...)
Tumblr media
Explanation number five:
They are doing Love triangle thing, where they will try ultimitely "please everyone" by giving us some scene that could be potentialy seen as romantic between Loki and Sylvie AND between Loki and Mobius (while leaving it for interpretation) In Czech republic, we call it: "when the wolf ate well, but goat is still alive."
Tumblr media
Explanation number six: They ARE able to make Lokius canon, but they actually like podtext more, then posibility to make it transparent, and that is just the way, they want to tell this story.
Tumblr media
Explanation number seven: They were planning to make Lokius a thing (if not from the start, then after season one) and they made whole season this way, so more people would rooth for them. And it will end with some form of confirmation of their love story. ( as I mentioned above, I can´t see this happening, but that is my bad experience talking. If it happens, I deffinitely won´t be mad about being wrong here, I can promise you that :D )
_______
I gues we will know more about their intent after episode 6. Right now, I´m actually just hoping, that story will stay consistent as much as it can. And characters won´t die. On the contrary I hope, they will end up happy, because they did earn it. I have to say, that I enjoyed this season even more then the first. And I really do hope, that finale wont make me change my mind. Regardles of intention, this show is high quality and it is obvious how much care was poured into every aspect of this season from effects, cinematography, costums, sets, music, acting... I think, that this show is a best thing marvel did in a long, LONG time.
Also please, pleaseeee let this season end at the place, where it will be possible to see Loki and Mobius in other MCU project (I would honestly watch anything, where they appear together)
Tumblr media
And lastly: If it doesn´t end the way you wanted, please please don´t let anger to rule your actions. Do criticize as much as you want, but please don´t harrass anybody. At the end of the day, creators of this show are also just people. Don´t say anything, you wouldn´t say into their faces. If it will end badly, watch your favourite, comfort gay show, celebrate how much Lokius fix-it fanfiction we´ll have! And how much art already exists because of those first five episodes.
Or take that frustration and turn it to motivation: maybe you can create something better!
I was there in 2017.
Please just don´t let TV show ruin your whole year and your creativity.
for people who got here and read it all: I really appreciate it! Thank you! 💚
PS: Sorry for my english and all the grammer mistakes I´m aware it´s not ideal 😅

Obviously, I am very tense about the Loki finale tonight, so this post may not age well, but I just have to say this.
The kiss in the season 1 finale was super weird. Not just because it was some strange version of selfcest, but because there was no real chemistry there. It genuinely felt like Sylvie's last-ditch effort to distract/confuse Loki enough to achieve her goal of killing He Who Remains. And that is exactly what that was. She kissed him, he looked completely defeated during said kiss, and then she kicked him through a time door, killed Kang, and then went about her life.
She did not look at all pleased to see Loki again, and there has been no spark of anything between them the entire season. Even when they join hands to use their magic, it looks like siblings. THEY READ LIKE SIBLINGS. There really hasn't been any effort put into developing their chemistry or connection romantically. Even in their most recent interaction at the bar, Sylvie is playing the detached therapist, trying to guide Loki into admitting what he already knows, the true "why" behind his mission, and it isn't her. She even explicitly defines that she has her own story and path and advises him to write his own. Separately.
Now all of this is a long way of saying that, if they move forward and push Sylkie on us at the eleventh hour, I won't be angry because it's not my ship, I will be angry because they did absolutely nothing to grow it, to nurture it, to have it make any real narrative sense.
Yes, this is Tumblr, and we all love a good gay ship (because we are sad and gay and starved for representation), but Loki and Mobius actually make narrative sense. Not only do they each represent the other's turning point and catalyst for growth and change, but they are also two characters that have developed into something together. Their evolution is incredible, and we have been given scenes all season that parallel their growth, in the way Mobius doesn't hesitate to trust Loki, how he embraces Loki's mischief, how Loki comes back to Mobius again and again, defends him, comforts him. They have actively built the framework for Lokius, even heavily implying that Mobius is the "who" that guides Loki's time slipping.
However they choose to manifest Loki and Mobius' relationship, if they leave it ambiguous, if it's queer-platonic, if it's whatever, they at the very least need to make it abundantly clear that THIS is the fundamental relationship. Their bond is the heart of the show.
Loki needs to love Sylvie because he needs to be able to love and embrace himself as he is, all of his strengths, and all of his weaknesses. Sylvie, who is still so impulsive and bent on revenge, is an excellent opportunity for him to see where he came from and love her anyway. But we've seen him face her impulsive violence, and instead of him meeting her there and joining in, we saw him become calm and compassionate - we saw how Mobius had helped him to grow. We need Loki and Sylvie to love each other, because that is how they are going to heal, it's how they aren't going to lose. But it's self-acceptance, it's the love you have to have before you can truly love someone else, and I think given Loki's long arc as a character, we need to see him beak out of his narcissism, move beyond just loving himself, and truly love someone else.
They more than paved the way for Mobius and Loki, and if they through that away for Sylkie, it won't just be sinking a perfectly good ship, it would be horrifically ignorant, wasteful storytelling. And this is the God of Stories, so if you fuck this up... I mean. Just don't okay?

No worries 😉 I got what you meant - love reading your thoughts 💕
I think we need to look at how the finale might play out from a heternormative lens.
Hear me out.
Under this lens, the hardest thing Mobius can do, which is in direct answer to Ravonna's claim he never could make the hard decisions, is to leave his timeline in order to protect his kids.
Don can never protect Kevin and Sean as fully as Mobius can. His sacrifice will be protecting his children's timeline (and thus all timelines) forever, at the cost of not being there to experience his children's growth and love.
As for Loki, there are 3 themes that have been consistently set-up with a need for payoff since S1:
1. Loki's fear of being alone
2. Does what make a Loki a Loki the "fact" they are destined to lose?
3. Selfishness vs Sacrifice
The thrust of the entire series is Loki breaking out of the narrative constructs that necessitate his position as "villain". The answer to these set-ups, in order for the series to fulfill its thesis are:
1. Loki will NOT be alone.
2. Loki will win.
3. Loki will sacrifice.
His sacrifice will take 2 forms: 1. His personal safety in preventing the Loom Boom, 2. His emotional safety in allowing Mobius to return to his children.
Yet by letting Mobius go, setting Mobius free if you will, Mobius will have the opportunity to choose him the TVA, in an act of his own sacrifice.
Under the heternormative lens, choosing the TVA to protect his kids is primary. Mobius's reward to make this sacrifice more bearable is an eternal friendship with Loki.
I am feeling fairly optimistic we will get a korasami-esque ending.

38) Loki looking for Mobius in PIE ROOM Hey... this is starting to be suspicious. is this room actual Heart of the TVA, that we didn´t know about ??? Why does everyone accidentally end up here???
Tumblr media
39) Loki Time slipping to the theater room (where he had his first long, table converstation with Mobius.)
I´m gonna cry 😭
Tumblr media
40) Mobius/Don casually informing Loki, he´s a SINGLE dad and telling him his entire work schedule (not that it´s important for anything, but Mobius is sooo damn handsome in that blue west!!! ) Also Loki staring at him through the window ?! And then being so distracted by him, that it took him interestigly long time, before he realized / accepted that Mobius doesn´t remember him (AGAIN). And he should have know this right away, because he already talked to Casey/Frank.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
41) Loki time slipping to Mobius again (right when he started to be hopefull and Happy, that O. B. will be able to help him.
Tumblr media
42) Loki glow up - or Loki fixing himself up, to look sexy not threatening fo Mobius/Don. I mean... this is just straight out of romantic movie, I´m sorry. Interesting acting choice there🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
43) Loki being very nervous while talking to Mobius/Don.
Mobius: "You live around here, or did you follow me home? 😉" Loki: "Oh... no... hahahaha 😅 ... No no. I was... 😳I was actually on my way to the 👉👆👇☝️uh. And... 😨 And I happend to see you, so I... I... I 🫣 just thought I´d just come and say that I´m sorry that I... I... 🥵couldn´t... stick around back there. I was... um... 🤯 I was in a bit of a time crunch. 😅😅😅"
Said God of Mischief.
I´m sorry, but he´s acting here like stuttering schoolgirl with a crush. What exactly are you trying to accomplish, Tom ??? Anyway... I love it xD
Tumblr media
44) Mobius dropping everything and forgeting about his two mischievous sons so he can give Loki full attention
Tumblr media
45) Wanna buy my wife´s jetski? - oh by the way, she´s long gone, and worst thing about it is the fact, that one of these beauties doesn´t have a rider.
would you wanna ride it with me? let´s jump up on these bad boys
Tumblr media
46) "A beautiful union of form and function"
The fact, that Loki remembers that line from S01E02 and that he echoes it back at Mobius, who doesn´t remember him... Like... WHAT? This thing is romantic as fuck. also finaly someone, who will gladly listen to Mobius braindumping about jetskis!!!! YES PLEASE. He deserves it! 💚 they litteraly made for each other!
Tumblr media
47) Loki gently helping Mobius/Don through the time door. - while O. B. is struggling with heavy prototype of tempad...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
48) "You saved my life, when I first arrived. You saw something in me, that I hadn´t seen in myself."
Tumblr media
Can you believe he said that??? Because I don´t. I´m still processing 😭 Also, see? He IS his friend... but O. B. is not. He WILL be (eccept O. B. knows Mobius much longer xDD ) I´m ok 49) "I want my friends back. I don´t want to be alone."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene is honestly so tragic. Sylvie helps him realize his true motivations and he looks so desprete. TVA: place, that he should hate is home now. Where he belong. And that´s why he cared so much and tried so hard to save that place. And thing he wants the most are his friends. Their company. (And if it wasn´t obvious, it means primarily Mobius. The man, he called friend several times this season) It´s him, who Loki doesn´t want to lose in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loki looks so fucking sad here! I can´t! 50) "It was more about what I wanted."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only he says it while we are watching Mobius, but let´s take in the fact, that he says it at all! Like... come on!!! Can´t he be just happy? As soon as he starts thinking that his actions are selfish, Loki will actualy choose what he thinks is better for Mobius and tries to let him go...
The character development in this show is just unbelievable
And finaly: 51) "It´s not about where, when or why. It´s about WHO."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... said Loki, after very, very, VERY long look at Mobius. --------------- Anyway. That´s the check-list. In total, I counted 51 Lokius moment, but if anyone caught something I didn´t, feel free to correct me! the more, the better! 😁 It´s a hella lot of Lokius content. especially since I didn´t expected, like... not even third of it. So yeah. Last part will be kind of a conclusion. I will try to look at possibilities, what could all this mean. What could be the actual intent of writers and filmakers etc. And, simply put it, asking: WHAT THE FUCK 😳

I’m not sure I would describe this as a heteronormative lens (tho I get what you mean I think) - any decent parent (esp a single parent) will put their children first (the orientation of a parent is not relevant to that question imo). I have seen some odd takes where Mobius leaving his kids for Loki is seen as some sort of positive commentary re “smashing heteronormativity” (not this post OP 🥰) but I would disagree with that sort of take - no decent single parent is going to chose a romantic partner over a child. (I am not offended by those takes it’s clear commenters are by pretty young and I would not expect everyone to get it). In fact I would say there is no choice here *at all* for a single parent.
I am worried about how they have set this up (as a single parent myself) because there is no hard choice or decision for Mobius - he is characterised as a good single father therefore (if consistent with that) he will do the thing best for his children. That’s not a choice. And I’m worried it would be painful no matter what - no choice, no good outcomes is not a great ending and will depress me too much. I’m worried because I agree with OP that they do seem to have a narrative :: choose TVA life or your kids - and that somehow this would be be a real choice, which misrepresents the reality of being s single parent (of any orientation).
On less angst-y note (forgive me I am taking that stuff too personally I know) I agree re Sylvie and my hope for her character is that she is up to something dodgy because of her very odd behaviour esp in ep5 when she saw the McD and whiskey glass vanish, said nothing about it, and proceeded to manipulate Loki out of doing anything to help… she has HWR tempad and could be up to anything! She could be like an unreformed Loki and betray them at a critical moment - this could be fun!

STUDY IN LOKI ROMANCE
Part 4: Heart of the TVA
I love him, btw.)
EPISODE 1 HERE
EPISODE 2 HERE
EPISODE 3 HERE
check-list, episode 4 (my beloved): 33) changing clothes together not to be that person, but like... they always went through the door from TVA on timeline in their "camouflage disguises". So Loki couldn't use his magic to change their clothes. I mean... they even make turning off system that prevents magic plot point in this episode So unless they have some special device in TVA (which was never established) It is implied, that these two just spend some time changing clothes together, before going out. And that brings me to this specific moment: At the end of the previous episode we see them going through the time door (fairly soon after Victor Timely, in 1893 clothing) And this episodes starts with Victor ariving at TVA and wondering around the empty hallways. Alone. So let me get this straight: After we see them both walk through the time door, they end in that war room (were they met in ep1), just the two of them. Victor is.... somewhere. who knows where, who even cares? And they though: it is actualy priority number one to change our clothes. Yes, right now. Never mind, we have He Who Remains variant wondering around the TVA and everything is going to explode soon. We have to take our clothes off. RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. I´m sorry, film makers, but what the acual f-
Tumblr media
34) Bickering like married couple (part 4) (but this time with EVERYONE else watching them with question marks above their heads. And these two idiots husbands probably didn´t even noticed xDD )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also.... "It´s got your shape" 😳 really? really Mobius? And how would you- oh sorry, my bad, never mind. I almost forget you were changing clothes togheter MULTIPLE TIMES, so of course you would know that. ... right? 35) The "misunderstanding trope"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole scene is just... jeeez! Sylvie screeming at Mobius for wanting cake (while Loki already knows, that Mobius wants it, because he is in a stress.) He tries to stop Sylvie, but she continues. Loki circles around her and ends up right between them (cough...smybolism...cough) And Sylvie starts attacking Mobius because he doesn´t want to know his life on a timeline. While Loki is RIGHT THERE, knowing perfectly well Mobiuses reason´s and how bad she is hurting him, because episode 2 happened. Loki knows. And then she leaves, and Loki follows her. But Mobius doesn´t know, what we know: and that he went to her to DEFEND HIM. Jeeeeeeez writers.... thanks, for this perfect example of romantic complication. Dramatic irony 100%. I´m living for this relationship drama while everything around them collapses and explodes. 10/10 television!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also... poor man needed pick-me-up cocoa drink immediately after 😭
Tumblr media
36) Pie scene number two I have to say, I LOVED this scene. EVERY FUCKING WORD. philosophical conflicts? yes please. moral dilemas? give me more! but let´s focus on Loki defending Mobius. Him bringing up Thor into the coversation, and comparing his change on Earth (that he didn´t understand before) to his own change that came from spending time at TVA. spending time with Mobius. And he is standing infront of pies this whole time! basicly him low key comparing Thor´s love for Jane to his love for Mobius
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And let´s not forget how obvious the difference between two pie scenes is! Because the first one is full of relaxed gestures, kindness and understanding. Just Loki and Mobius being intimite and open with each other 🥹 In glaring contrast with that, THIS scene, with Sylvie is full of conflict, tention and disagreements. The are standind, far from each other, and whole room has completely different (horror like) vibe.
37) THIS SHOT. just the two of them, right before the end.
Tumblr media
God I love this episode so much! 💛💛💛

Loki S2 Pre-E6 Thoughts
So I know that this is totally random content to give to y'all this morning, but I wanted to post up my thoughts about the series before its final episode airs tomorrow. I have, in the past, talked about my thoughts on S1 and how I really did like it until the last 5 minutes of Episode 6 and how out-of-nowhere-forced the Sylvie/Loki kiss felt (I was physically cringing about it).
Given how S1 ended, I was a bit wary about S2, but decided to watch it anyway, and holy hell I think Season Two is KNOCKING it out of the park. I'm loving it as much as I loved Moon Knight, and it's right up there now in my top 5. The episodes are SO cinematically beautiful, well written and flow nicely, the characters are all so charming, and the Mobius/Loki relationship is being built up so much that it COULD lead to more or canonization in the final episode. During the past 5 weeks, I've been lurking on the meta spaces for Loki on Twitter and Tumblr, and wow the nostalgia I feel for it, it SO reminds me of the hey-day of my Johnlock meta-ing before S4.
I think my only gripe right now with this season is that they wasted Sophia DiMartino... her character Sylvie feels like such a... filler character (like they just put her in there because she was in the first season and they didn't know what to do with her this season)? But I think ALSO she's meant to be a counter-mirror to Loki, to show that he ISN'T like her anymore, that he grew and changed for the better with the positive influences in his life, and unlike her he doesn't WANT to be alone and such. And they're REALLY making her so unlikeable this season for me... I'm glad that it's looking like they're pretty much not going the Sylvie/Loki route (and I honestly don't see how people who ship it think it will canonically turn around at this point), but the showrunners are having her have every interaction between her and Loki rather hostile, demoralizing, or toxic. And rather that, they're countering it by showing a more positive alternative for Loki with Mobius as his potential romantic partner. Which is fantastic because I've shipped Lokius since Mobius came on the screen in S1, LOL. I just think they could have done that in S2 without making Sylvie an unlikeable character (like have her be a cheerleader for them instead?) I dunno. It's a shame because I did like her in S1. Don't like her at all in S2. She's so MEAN to EVERYONE. To Mobius especially, like CHILL girl, let a man stress-eat, JEEZ.
And here's the rant I actually wanted to write this post about because I didn't want to clutter up other people's threads with it: So, every week, I usually watch breakdowns and review videos so I can understand the characters and their comic counter parts a bit better, and usually the breakdowns are really good because they show the nods to comic-canon things and such. But OMG these past two weeks, I had to stop watching the reviews because LITERALLY all of them ship Sylvie/Loki and are trying SO hard to prove that it's canon when the past few weeks it's only been more and more likely that it's not happening.
NONE of Big Name Reviewers (NRS and SC specifically, if ya know you know) acknowledged AT ALL the RIDICULOUS amount of romantic tropes and dopey staring that Episodes 4 and 5 had (Loki watches Mobius through a window the first time he finds him, and the second time before going to talk to Mobius again Loki LITERALLY groomed himself and then stutters like a lovesick teenager. It was very rom-com; and they're skirting around the fact that all the empty places in the TVA that Loki kept slipping to were ALL places that Loki tshared time with Mobius in... I CAN GO ON FOREVER HERE, AND AND AND that Loki is constantly panicking if he can't find Mobius). LIKE. NONE OF THE REVIEWERS, who literally break down all the episodes and point out shit like All That for het-ships, just won't acknowledge any of it!! They glossed over both Loki's and Sylvie's bisexuality confirmations in S1, and only briefly mentioned their genderfluidity in the comics and in actual mythology. I usually watch the breakdowns because I'm not familiar with comic lore so I find it interesting to learn about those backstories, as well as little details they find, but they've been dropping the ball ALL season, and EVERY one of them mention EVERY single breakdown that Loki just wants to get back to "his one true love Sylvie!!", like what are you smoking?!?!? I was getting SO FRUSTRATED because they skipped over LARGE chunks of E5, especially, just pointing out the surface level stuff instead. I literally turned it off after all that.
THAT ALL SAID, since episode one it's been clear that Sylvie wants NOTHING to do with Loki – she just wants to live a quiet simple life. Then when shit goes bad, she blames Loki for all the problems SHE caused, shits on Mobius every chance she gets, and then in that bar scene when Loki's bearing his soul to her, telling her that he wants his friends back and DOESN'T want to be alone, she basically is like "tough titties" and leaves him ALONE, showing she's not a friend at all.
But the reviewers literally just gloss over all of this. ANYWAY.
Ugh, sorry about that, that's been eating at me for like 3 weeks and last week's reviews finally just pissed me off so much because even casually watching the show I could see all this shit. I only REALLY started believing Lokius could happen after Episode 4 aired, and then Episode 5 had me reeling.
I am DYING to write meta about every episode as it comes out... I just feel that other people are writing better stuff than I could, and much faster than I have time for, and really it's nice to be on the reader side of things for a change. I just... don't want to add in my own two cents to their posts because I'd feel I'm intruding, is all.
I have lots of hope about where Episode 6 will go... like I'm feeling pretty good about them canonizing Lokius... However... I'm not gonna be disappointed if it doesn't get canonized simply because this is Disney and I am REALLY not thinking they're going to explore Loki's comic-canon genderfluidity and sexuality on a surface level.
Good thing I eat subtext for breakfast LOL. I lived through BBC Sherlock, hahah. BUT... can I get a third ship canonized in one year??? Is it wishful thinking? Oh, for sure. I hope so. I would be so happy if Disney even ACKNOWLEDGED that they love each other But I'm not expecting it. I'll be happy with another hug at least, or a forehead touch or hand holding. I'm a simple gal.
Honestly though, I do inevitably want the last episode to have Loki as the ruler with his friends, because they built up to this for 12 episodes, I DON'T want an unhappy ending for the sake of a twist or whatever. Truly let him be the Loki Who Remains (a callback to Episode One) as the Keeper of Time with Bea, O.B., Casey, and Mobius at his side <3
I LOVE the character development of Loki in this series, too. I legit didn't really care for Loki all that much in the MCU, but this series did the same to him for me that FatWS did to Bucky for me: Make me want to see MORE of them and their adventures with their new friends.
Anyway, thanks for reading and indulging me, I mostly just needed to get that rant out about reviewers and wtf people still think Sy!ki is happening. Feel free to discuss in the notes, I plan on posting a reblog with final thoughts after it airs on Thursday <3

STUDY IN LOKI ROMANCE
Part 2: Breaking Brad

Because even though I shipped lokius practically from S1E2, I absolutely did NOT expect this kind of development. (Not that I´m complaining)

IIIIIIIIII = anything, that coud potentialy be just acting choice.

(Even when I´m really happy, that s2 continues with this formula and Mobius is still his completely defenseless while aggressively brave self. I love him, btw.)
EPISODE 1 HERE
Okay, Check-list, ep 2:
11) matching suits part 1 THIS ⬇️ costume department did a great job and they look badass together also, they´re walking very close to each other.
Tumblr media
12) Loki defending /saving Mobius from Brad (with magic!) also, Mobius, dear, (my beloved) you were really going for it! Always so ready to fight! I can´t xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loki "don´t u dare hurt him" Laufeyson, look at his face!
13) Mobius and Loki struggling to assemble IKEA furniture- sorry Tapmad together
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
14) " And he knows..." I mean yeah, sure. keep remind us, that Mobius knows everything about Loki, and saw him at his worst, so we can appreciate even more the fact, that Mobius likes him and cares for him so damn much 💚🤎
Tumblr media
15) Loki finding Mobius´s joke amusing Mobius: cracking joke right after Loki´s threatening speech:
Tumblr media
Loki:
Tumblr media
16) Loki being very concerned for Mobius after his outburst, saying that It´s okay, and then suggests having pie because he knows Mobius so well and is avare of the fact, that his man is stress eater I´m gonna cry they´re too pure for MCU someone adopt them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
17) Bickering like married couple (part 2) 18) The whole freaking pie scene!
Tumblr media
Just them, sharing calm, intimate moment together
Mobius opening up to Loki, and admiting he "lost it"
Tumblr media
Loki trying to make him fell better and absolutely KILLING IT! btw, I know, that some people think, this scene doesn´t make sense, because Loki didn´t "lost it" during avengers, but was controlled by mind stone, etc.... well I think that it actually doesn´t matter. Guess what else doesn´t make sense? For example the fact, that they already talked about Loki fighting Avengers ( during their first meeting.) Loki is aware, that Mobius saw New York invasion at least twice now, and he´s telling him anyway. I would say, that point here is Loki trying to lift Mobius´s spirit, entertain him, make him smile. Why else woud he start his monolog by "remember, when...?" And I think, that this is huge, actually: Loki, using his bad memory, defeat, his humulianting experience to make Mobius feel better. So not only, that we see, he no longer care about being rurel but we see him making lightly fun of it FOR MOBIUS´S SAKE! He has different priorities now... our immortal god is a grown man now... it´s just so fucking beautiful... 🥺
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Mobius saying to Loki: "come on, you´re the God of Mischief" Like it´s a best thing in the world, and Loki gives him THIS LOOK! (I mean that head tilt would be considered "acting" category, but I´m already making concessions by including all these things under one number :D
19) Loki and Mobius: mischievous duo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mobius trusts him so completly!
They both such a drama queens!
And they works so well together!
like... seriously, Brad didn´t see this coming, AT ALL! xD
also... Loki complimenting his plan?!
20) "They say opposites attract. NO." Mobius´s wishfull thinking xD (But hey, it IS true. Opposites attracts. And works greatly together. That´s the only reason, why, for example, trope like grumpy one/sunshine one is so popular!) I can´t! just look at his face 🤣 Oh honey! just calm down
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is sooooooo NOT chill here xD bless him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
21) Loki, not following Sylvie, but actually staying with Mobius and comforting him. AGAIN. (which is an absolutely glaring contrast compared to episode 2 in first season!)

STUDY IN LOKI ROMANCE Part 1: Ouroboros
Tumblr media
Since we're only a few days away from the last episode, I decided to COUNT DOWN everything we´ve got so far ( that can be interpreted very easily as romantic ) and discuss what the actual fuck is going on with second season. Because even though I shipped lokius practically from S1E2, I absolutely did NOT expect this kind of development. (Even when I´m really happy, that s2 continues with this formula and Mobius is still his completely defenseless while aggressively brave self. I love him, btw.)
Soooo EPISODE 1, le´t go: 1)"Mobius It´s me!" few second in and we have slowmo chasing scene with detail on Loki, and Mobius and then THIS Loki´s heartbreaking look on his face here.
Tumblr media
2) "Tell me, you recognize me!" (Loki trying to desperetly find Mobius, and then running towards him) Also If this Time slipping didn´t triggered anything external, but It´s just his own, unlocked power - I honestly don´t know, how they will explain that - does that mean, that he unknowingly unlocked this power, because he was send by Silvie into the past, and then he was simply desperete and Mobius couldn´t recognized him so his body reacted by time slipping to place and time, where Mobius would know who he is???
Tumblr media
3) this very unexpected exhibition of touches (meaning Mobius practicaly glueing himself to Loki for this entire section)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I´m sorry, but my man here is like "no, I´m not about to let you have a personal space. NOT. AN. OPTION. let me hold you some more" xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) This scene in in an elevator first of all, that was a second time, he slipped and was RIGHT back with Mobius, the very next second. secondly: Mobius being scared for Loki and insisting he needs immediate help thirdly: Loki reassuring Mobius, It´s not that bad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also this "we just had sex in a cabin" shot:
Tumblr media
and lastly...
Tumblr media
Big thanks to the film crew for this shot to give us an idea just HOW MUCH OF AN UNUSED SPACE was in the elevator! 👌
5) Mobius and Loki talking to OB. being perfectly coordinated team and smoothly working together, while standing on a same spot, but in a completely different time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
poetry... just poetry!
6) Distressed God and his Happy Face just so we know: how long is it, since their reunion? Because I would swear that not even five minutes ago Loki was in state of complete panic, and look at him now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at him smiling, enjoying view at struggling mobius 💚
few minutes with this man, and HE forgets all about his trauma and just vibing.
me too, Loki. Me too 🥲
btw, this thing over here?!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7) bickering, like married couple, part 1
8) "Mobius if I don´t make it back" and "You´ll make it back". What was it, what where you about to say Loki? It sounded important! next time TALK FASTER!
Tumblr media
9) Mobius risking his life SKIN for loki and refusing to give up on him.
Tumblr media
10) Loki saves Mobius in an epic fashion and they end up in a hug: also they roll around the floor together
Tumblr media
I mean... this whole scene was absolute TOP! So yeah. That was a first episode. before the premiere I was litteraly hoping, that I will see our Loki and our Mobius together at least ONCE, before first end credits. I actually couldn´t believe my own eyes, holy shit!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think Mobius is happy in his timeline. Don, as we find him, is different from Mobius.
He's less confident.
He's more desperate.
He's less responsible.
He's more lonely.
Owen's delivery of "Are you really my friend?" Didn't sound skeptical to me. It sounded more like longing.
I originally thought his wife died, but upon second review, the delivery of "long gone" was rather flippant. If it was a divorce, however, it seems like it wasn't an amicable parting. It rather leans toward a marriage that struggled to work.
I still stand by the notion Mobius isn't making enough money. Yet, the kids stayed with him. That, to me, suggests the wife cheated and left to be with her lover. To prevent disruption in his kids' lives (changing schools, leaving behind friends, etc.), I think Mobius argued for primary custody.
Tumblr media
Again, he needs the money. He brings up his wife, but it's not her he misses.
Tumblr media
He misses the sense of adventure, the fun, the companionship. Someone to share a drink with, someone to share a meal or something sweet with.
Even in his timeline, he doesn't actually get to ride a jetski. The most he can get is fantasizing about it.

While Loki sacfricing himself to ensure his friends are safe, to ensure Mobius's kids are safe, to ensure MOBIUS is safe, feels like a forgone conclusion, I don't think this feels like a proper ending for Mobius.
I think Loki will survive, and I hope he and Mobius will find a way to make it work since Loki explained to him he can take Mobius back to any point in time. Meaning, he could have Loki in his life without abandoning his kids.
But where will Loki go? Even if OB and Casey want to stay full-time at the TVA (I honestly don't see either of them wanting their timeline lives), it doesn't feel right for Loki.
Tumblr media
This house looks like it can fit one more person.
I don't care that I know I'm about to get hurt, but the narrative set-up is all there, and it's driving me crazy. There's an indisputable basis for a romantic relationship, there's Loki's powers enabling a timeline life and a TVA life to work, and there's a fucking HOUSE that can fit one more person that we know would be welcome there.
Adding to all of this is that Mobius shows up in Deadpool 3.
This is driving me absolutely bananas. The happy ending is there. It's mechanically feasible. But it's Disney, so what the hell ending is it going to be???

Loki S2C5: a bit of a rant about Loki's feelings.
This got long skdk but bare with me cause I need to talk about them. The romantic undertones are making me INSANE.
No cause i am CONVINCED that Loki just realized he's in love with Mobius in this last chapter, s2c5. We know that this is a chapter of deep self-realization for Loki, since he reveals out loud what he truly wants: for his friends to stay, not being alone. So we already know this is a deep dive into Loki's feelings, into what he truly wants, into what his selfish desires are. "It's ok to want things". And Loki wants things. Which things, exactly?
This is easy to answer with all the romantic undertones this chapter had. For Sylvie being his love interest, there is very little S*lki content in this chapter. Y'know, the chapter where we're diving down into Lokis' true wants and feelings. You think this would be the perfect occasion to deepen into his and Sylvie's relationship, but instead, the ship stays in comatose as part of their only scene together in this chapter centers around Mobius. Around Loki bringing up Mobius and focusing on him and focusing on how he should have a chance to choose between the TVA and his life on the timeline. You don't have to be a genius to know that this hides Loki's desire to be chosen. More specifically, to be chosen by Mobius. And I know he also wants the rest of his friends to do so. But he doesn't focus on them, not on Sylvie. But on Mobius.
And then, the chapter is FILLED with romantic undertones between Lokius. Apart from Mobius' obvious attempts to flirt with the hot brunette client (real), we have Loki fixing his hair and jacket before going to talk to Mobius and stuttering all over the place while doing so. Loki remembering word by word what Mobius said about jetskis once. Loki basically confessing his feelings for him, letting him and us know that Mobius is the person who helped him see in himself something he couldn't (aka, Mobius is the reason why he became softer. Aka, Mobius is to Loki what Jane is to Thor, and not Sylvie). We have Mobius attempting to sell Loki his wife's former jetski, obvious romantic parallel. The romantic parallels between the two are all over the place.
And if it wasn't clear enough that this chapter is all about Loki's reflection on his wants and needs (that will culminate in him finding his glorious purpose as the god of stories), at the end we have him finding out how to control his time slipping. "It's about the who". Exactly. The "who" is extremely important. And who has Loki been caring about the most during the whole chapter? Who had his main focus? Who was the person who he was displaying different tendencies around? Who got more screen time around Loki? His love interest? No, Mobius. Tho at this point, they could be the same thing.
And the fact that he realizes that it's about the who after looking into Mobius' eyes for a full 10 seconds is completely telling. I'm so sure that he knows he loves him, and he knows he does so in a romantic way.
Cause, speaking from a narrative standpoint, isn't it just so tragic yet so fitting? That he finds out and admits his true feelings for Mobius once Mobius has forgotten him? Bc I'm also very sure that Mobius has known his own feelings for a LONG time, personally I think things clicked in his head in s1c4 when he was drowning in jealousy. Cmon, this man basically tried to enjoy a date with Loki in s2c3. He knows he's in love. At least he knew, bc now that Loki has realised that Mobius is his Jane, that it's about the who, that he's allowed to want; he's just forgotten him. And Loki's seen him die in front of his eyes again. And there's a way too real possibility of him choosing this life over Loki.
But maybe, he can rewrite the story. Maybe, he doesn't have to lose every time. Maybe, just maybe, he is allowed to want and have and be happy.
Unless Marvel wants to be a BITCH and doesn't give them a happy ending. Which, yeah. Probably.
Do I think Lokius will be canon? Not at all lmfao. But I do think that if they're doing all of this as a mere coincidence, wow. They just wrote one of the greatest love stories in the mcu without intending to. But if they're doing all of this just for queerbaiting, also wow, cause they're gonna throw away something so perfectly built for both Loki's and Mobius' arc just for nothing bc "two men bad".
But, yeah. Whatever happens next week, they're gay idgaf

Part 4 of - what the heck is going on with Mobius anyway?
S2e5 - the one with where they get the band back together
Disclaimer- I’m a single parent and found it hard to be objective watching this one. For me this episode was a very perfect reflection of how hard, lonely it can be to bring up children by yourself and how you willingly give up so much of yourself for them. They did this very well - I hope they don’t screw this up in the final episode.
A good life, but not a happy one
Mobius timeline life is good but not super happy. He comes across as struggling and lonely. Mobius works 6 days a week, he tries to sell Loki one of his jet skis that he no longer can use, he’s constantly being interrupted at work by his kids, the house is chaos and he had to leave the boys to fend for themselves selves while he was at work (therefore he has no friends or family to watch them or money to pay for childcare). This is a person struggling to keep it together, but he does manage to do so for his boys and he manages to stay kind and positive towards them. The boys are the top of his list of priorities “I can’t leave my boys”/ “I need to check on the kids” “I got to get back to my boys” “I’ll know”. This all speaks of someone who has given up his own wants for the kids and feels guilty about doing anything for himself.
Given the slightly flippant tone of “long gone” when discussing his wife I think it likely she left rather than died (or blipped) - as that’s not how a grieving widower is likely to speak (especially if he might be overheard by the boys).
The whisper of adventure
There are a number of signs that Mobius has a desire for adventure. His love of jet skis, the fact he immediately agreed to try out the time door, how much he loved the idea of being “Mobius.” (“Mobius is a pretty cool name”)
The idea of being your better self
It wasn’t just adventure for fun that’s calling his name though but also the idea of being something more. Mobius reacted emotionally to the idea of himself as someone that would “save my life when I first arrived”. His delivery of “I sell Jet Skis man” showed how little he thought of himself, but also a desire to be something more.
Loneliness
This exchange killed me:
Loki “you saved my life when I first arrived. You saw something in me I hadn’t seen in myself”
Mobius “Are you really my friend?”
Loki “I am”.
Just the way Mobius says this tell us how much he really really wants to believe he could have a friend like this.
Loki’s view of Mobius
Once again the major topic of conversation between Sylvie and Loki is Mobius (this is becoming a theme - and if they do get Sylvie and Loki together it’s just mad and funny).
Anyway this conversation tells us that Loki believed Mobius when he said the TVA was the “only life he knew” and that he “liked it”. Of course there’s an element of this being wishful thinking on Loki’s part, but he is pretty insistent that Mobius should be given the choice. So Loki thinks (at least until Sylvie talks him out of it) that there is a good chance Mobius would chose the TVA - and himself. And as Frigga once said (Thor: dark world) Loki is “.. so perceptive about everyone but yourself”. So I don’t think we should dismiss Loki’s perception about Mobius. (He is also pretty insistent in his conversation with Mobius that “this is not the life of the man I know”. And there’s enough for viewers to see “Mobius” is more at ease with himself than “Don”.)
Sylvie undermines this and persuades Loki he is being selfish. (Side note - Sylvie puzzles me this season and in particular in this episode- if you watch closely she sees that her McDonalds meal disappears and Loki’s drink in the bar disappear too - but says nothing to Loki and does everything to stop Loki from trying to fix it - is it just denial or something more sinister?)
Last episode
So some theory based predictions for Ep 6
Themes that still need payoff:
- order & chaos
- Partners & Friends & loneliness
- Hard choices
Th end of the last episode has me thinking we may get a happy ending because it would be narratively neat to leave Loki surrounded by his new TVA family - especially after the way last episode was concluded.
It would pay off the themes positively as follows:
order & chaos - Loki (chaos) working with TVA (order) to give balance
Partners & Friends & loneliness - Loki and his misfit friends get to stay together so they don’t have to be alone
Hard choices - this one worries me but it would be possible for a number of hard choices to be made that still ends up in a good place (even if it doesn’t seem like it will at the time).
Hard choices Mobius
I think this is aimed specifically at Mobius - Loki made his hard choice in Ep 5 when he was willing to let this team go. I’m hoping they will be able to square the circle with Mobius and his family, because he’ll *not* be ok without the boys or without Loki (& the TVA).
Given this is a time travel show with magic I don’t see why they can’t find an solution to that - because the issue is about not having enough time to both look after the boys and look after yourself. I’ll be super disappointed if they make this unnecessarily miserable by making Mobius give up either his fulfilling life & friends at the TVA or his boys. Though I also won’t be surprised to see this as a plot point. If they try to sell it to me as Mobius being super happy to return to his life I’ll be doubly annoyed.
In theory the boys timeline should be long gone so this choice should not exist, but they seem to be setting up this hard choice for Mobius in particular ( so maybe the loom explosion was meant to be a full reset).
Hanging threads & wild cards
X5 /Brad /Zaniac - is still in the TVA - is he going to cause chaos as they try to fix the loom?
Renslayer - is in the void - will she tame Alioth? Is Miss Minutes really gone or does she have another instance in the citadel at the end of time?
Kang - is HWR really behind everything? Are all the events just one pre-planned trap of HWR?
Sylvie - Sylvie knew more than she has told anyone (eg she saw the disappearance of items and said nothing). She has HWR tempad. Loki treats her like she has words of wisdom so we also tend to accept she is right or benign, but her last piece of advice was completely wrong. She has been acting pretty oddly all season too - what’s up with that? (Worth remembering she is a Loki variant and they are generally not to be trusted).
Romance
My own reading of Mobius remains that he lost his heart to Loki sometime around S1e2. By S1e5 he’d accepted this, but concluded it wasn’t going anywhere - so conveniently he didn’t need to exactly work out what the feelings were. Mainly because Loki was focused on Sylvie. This episode doesn’t change that since we don’t get any TVA Mobius.
Loki on the other hand did give more away this episode - and it was the first one (for me) where it looked like his feelings could be romantic or at least headed that way. Whenever he talks about saving his friends we all know this primarily means Mobius. I mean how much interaction has he really had with the others? The discussion in the bar was particularly instructive- he wants Mobius to have the choice (this is *after* seeing him on the timeline when he knows what Mobius would be giving up) and he desperately hopes Mobius would choose to stay with him. But Sylvie persuades him otherwise.
Sylvie - there is really no sign of the romance from last season left here. Loki does still greatly admire Sylvie. I’d say Loki almost hero worships her - and especially takes what she says about free will and choice as authoritative (as if she were an expert on it). This is consistent with his romantic feelings from s1e4,5&6 which seemed to grow out of his admiration for her radical / free spirit nature. But by this episode it didn’t seem to be romantic any more - rather a mentor / mentee conversation. Loki did not declare he wanted Sylvie back or even anything close to it - and it would have been the obvious time to do that.
Sylvie has never seemed particularly romantically interested in Loki to me. She kissed him to distract him in s1e6 and no doubt thinks he’s quite hot, but that’s all I’m getting. I actually like this about her as a character (she’s just not that into you Loki sorry). I hope she is a bit more villainous than we know (a bit more basic Loki if you will) otherwise she has been a bit of a spare part this season.
I am not expecting any romance from the last episode though mainly because:
(1) I don’t think there is time to do either romance option justice with all the other plot points to be resolved (2) romance is not central to the plot of season 2 - they have pushed the friendship / found family theme hard and that will do for plotting & emotional payoff purposes, and (3) if you want to be commissioned for season 3 you don’t resolve romantic tension. We’re on Tumblr so we all know there are a significant chunk of fans of any media that follow the stories for the romance aspect - and we all know this audience is likely to be very loyal, vocal on social media and will predictably turn up to watch the next season just to see how it plays out. If they resolve a romance arc either way too early they kill a lot of interest in season 3 - people are always more interested in “will they won’t they” than an established relationship.

Loki Season 2 - End Game Theories Part 2
Part 1: (read here)
Part 2:
5.) Mobius's Plotline
6.) Sylvie's Role
7.) John = Mobius?
8.) The Original Timekeepers & Time Paradoxes
Tumblr media
He is so wounded and lost. If he can't get a hug from anybody, he'll settle for something sweet to eat.
MOBIUS'S PLOTLINE
As I mentioned in Part 1 of my theory dump, Mobius is narratively positioned to be at his lowest point. Renslayer claims he cannot make the hard decisions or the sacrifices required to do what must be done, Brad accuses Mobius of being a nobody, and Sylvie accuses Mobius for not taking the danger facing the multiple timelines seriously (more on this in Sylvie's section).
Tumblr media
*Sidenote: I bet Mobius has a really common name like John. More on this in John = Mobius? section.
With the latest screen captures of the mid-season trailer, it's confirmed we will see Mobius in his original timeline, but we don't know HOW he gets there. I believe there are 3 possibilities:
1.) The Loom explosion immediately throws everyone back into their original timelines (with possible exception to the gods).
2.) Mobius, with the TVA falling apart, chooses to return to his original timeline, believing that he is not necessary and will only cause more harm.
3.) The TVA and its inhabitants (with exception of the gods) slowly spaghettify and Mobius bids Loki farewell.
The images below suggest #2 and/or #3, but Loki's attire gives me pause. Unless he travels backwards or forwards in time, who would put him in the jumpsuit and collar in the present? Himself via magic, to relive how they first met before a final goodbye? If it is a final goodbye, why are they not embracing like in S1? Because it's too painful?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wish I could figure out the timing of this moment because of its impact on the story.
If it happens BEFORE Mobius returns to his original timeline, we know Loki and Sylvie will seek him out.
If if happens AFTER Mobius is returned to his original timeline, then Loki and Sylvie found Mobius, and Mobius chose not to stay.
Regardless, when Loki finds Mobius, he does not expect Mobius to have no memory of him. (Again, sigh)
Tumblr media
Another possibility is that this Mobius is not Loki's Mobius, and that Loki's Mobius will eventually see what could have been his life as an observer. This option, however, lowers the stakes and thus seems unlikely.
Whatever the case, I think we will find that Sylvie's and Mobius's narrative positions will be reversed in the last 2 episodes. Pre-Loom explosion, Loki and Mobius needed to convince Sylvie to join them. Post-Loom explosion, Loki and Sylvie will need Mobius back.
But the cost will be exceptionally high. Mobius was right: he knew knowing his life being incredibly good will tempt him away from the TVA and all the responsibilities, violence, and stress that come with it. He will need to give up his dream job, a lovely home in the suburbs, and family. Mobius won't be the only one challenged by making this choice, the weight of it will fall on Loki's shoulder's, too, and Loki needs to articulate how much Mobius means to him because Mobius has been more vocal and active in tending to their relationship, Ep 2 not withstanding.
We know why Loki would be motivated to find him, but what would motivate Sylvie to bring Mobius back? How can she help Loki facilitate this?
SYLVIE'S ROLE
We know that Sylvie has the ability to see other people's memories through enchantment. It's possible she will either share her memories with Mobius directly or act as a conduit between Loki and Mobius. The latter makes more sense since Loki has more positive memories of Mobius at the TVA than Sylvie does. I think she will offer to do this because: 1.) She wants to protect her timeline, and 2.) Like Loki, she will come to realize Mobius means more to her than she thought.
From what we've seen of Sylvie in her 1982 McDonald's timeline, she understandably wants nothing more than to live a calm life and make friends of her own. All of this is perfectly valid, and she is deserving of a peaceful life.
Tumblr media
Her outburst at Mobius during the pie scene strikes me as a projection of her own guilt and feelings of helplessness, which she does not yet have the tools to deal with in a healthy way. Sophia is an exceptional actress: her micro-emotions shift from guilt to anger so quickly it is almost imperceptible if you're not watching closely. Sylvie is very much Loki as he used to be: deflecting responsibility by blaming others, mocking softness as a weakness, outbursts of yelling and violence. She wants to be left alone! And yet ...
Tumblr media
*Sidenote: I jumped out of my seat when I saw that kid's name tag: it says "John", my personal original timeline name for Mobius since forever ago.
This is a lie. Sylvie never wanted to be alone. She wanted a place to feel happy and safe.
Tumblr media
Look at that smile. Are you kidding me? How can anyone hate her? Mobius wants pie and hot cocoa. Sylvie wants a fast food job. Both want the comfort of normalcy. So does Loki. All of them deserve happiness.
She seems to have found a degree of these things in the 1982, Broxton, Oklahoma, Branched Timeline. Someone, however, enabled her to make a living there by getting her a job at a fast food chain ...
JOHN = Mobius?
This theory is quite a reach since the timeline is a branch, but the dates map out just right. If John (Mobius?) can't drive yet in 1982, he'd be 15, which makes his birthday 1967. Assuming this story is set in 2023 and John is Mobius, that makes John/Mobius 56. Owen Wilson is 54. Pretty darn close! I mean, look at that hand-hip pose and brown/neutral color scheme, not to mention his enthusiasm for the menu. The tie suggests he's a shift manager (someone with promising leadership skills), and he has a distinct accent.
If this kid pays off as being teen!Mobius, then I don't doubt Sylvie has a certain affection for him. In the parking lot, she asks if his mom is going to pick him up and he assures her, yes, he'll be okay. He then asks if he will see her at work the next day, and she in turn assures him she will. (If someone can find a gif of this, please let me know!) What was the point of this interaction, if not to show that Sylvie is capable of making friends and showing care towards others? If John is in fact Mobius, then what irony: they will soon create the TVA and work alongside one another again!
Sylvie will likely also feel more compassion towards Mobius if she met him as a teen. She seems to have a soft spot for kids, seeing as she gave a kid a Kablooie! which allowed Mobius and Loki to find her in S1. If John isn't Mobius, then Sylvie has at least 1 person in a timeline to protect, and that will motivate her to bring Mobius back.
They will be friends. We know, based on the image below, that they're going to make amends. We know it's going to be okay. They will unite as the 3 timekeepers because it is the right and hard thing to do. Sylvie will stay and (at least until HWR is dealt with) so will Mobius.
Tumblr media
THE ORIGINAL 3 TIMEKEEPERS AND TIME PARADOXES
I've written before in asks to @bebx and @mobius-m-mobius that I believe the story is in a timeloop, whereby killing HWR triggers a series of events which causes Loki (and possibly Sylvie) to recruit Mobius, B-15, and Casey from their respective timelines, which means their pasts. Because the TVA is destroyed by the Loom explosion, the TVA consequently needs to be created.
And I suspect the Loom, which constrains the number of branches that can exist, was put in place by HWR after the TVA was formed by the Loki and Sylvie when they went into the past to recruit the people they've already worked with.
HWR said, "See you soon" after Sylvie kills him.
Because the Loom exploded, the Loom no longer exists.
Since the Loom no longer exists, multiple timelines come to being with variants of Kang.
Loki, Mobius, and Sylvie form an alliance against Kang to protect all timelines.
To do this, Loki and Sylvie must find Mobius in his timeline, which for the purposes of the TVA, takes place in the past.
The TVA is therefore created in a past that is running along concurrent timestreams in which the TVA already exists or is in the process of being destroyed. Remember: branches run concurrently but at different points in time. Sacred Timeline Loki's timestream is ahead of L1130 Loki's timestream; LL1130 Loki is in Sacred Timeline Loki's past before he diverges.
The TVA's original purpose was to monitor for threats like HWR and combat him.
At some point, HWR and Ravonna infiltrate the TVA and wipe everyone's memory. Note that Loki suspects it's happened more than once. They likely do this on a different concurrent timestream while Loki, Mobius, and Sylvie are actively forming an alliance and combating him in another concurrent timestream. This is why the original 3 timekeepers are consistently missing. They are in the TVA's past and future at the same time but never truly in the TVA's present. HWR rules the TVA's present.
They wipe memories once (1) to make everyone forget the original timekeepers (Loki, Mobius, Sylvie) when HWR wants to be responsible for the Sacred Timeline. His image is then brought to the TVA, the Loom is installed, and pruning begins. HWR ensures that only his temporal aura can access systems when Miss Minutes overrides TVA's control.
They do it a second time (2) to make everyone forget HWR when he gets tired of his role and wants to retire via death. The 3 timelords imagery and robots are put in place to create a lore based on fact.
HWR, being a megalomanic, does not want anyone else to govern time even though he's too fed-up with it to do it himself. He will count on another HWR to do this form him.
HWR paving the road for Loki and Sylvie to find him was never about giving them the power to govern time (lies!). He needed them to facilitate a timeloop in which HWR always returns to create and control the sacred timeline in the TVA's present.
Sylvie kills him. The "end of time" takes place. The timelines branch uncontrollably. The Loom explodes. Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius build the TVA in the past.
Rinse and repeat.
The loop in itself calls into question free will.
Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius need to figure out how to break out of the loop.
This is a lot! If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed. Let me know what you think!
