idk if i still have followers from the malora/maleficent fandom on here but if i do then y’all absolutely have to read malice by heather walter, the sleeping beauty villian origin story that’s actually canonically queer and very very good 

the book is about alyce, a dark grace and half-vila (a despised and nearly extinct magical race), who’s feared by most of the kingdom but begrudgingly accepted as long as she stays in her place making petty revenge enchantments for them. and about aurora, the princess who’s doomed to die at 21 if she doesn’t kiss her true love by her birthday. the worldbuilding is really in depth and well thought out, the magic is unique and interesting, and there’s so many plot turns that i literally couldn’t put it down and finished it in about a day and a half 

also the cover is really pretty

It was a bright and sunny day, but not here. Here it was dark, the bare stone corridors a network of shadows. It had relied on candles and torches to provide some light, but they had all burnt out long ago. It was silent here, save for the scurrying of rats.

And, now, the tapping of Maleficent’s staff on the abandoned marble as she quietly followed Aurora.

She didn’t want to be here. Neither did Aurora. But they had to, more or less. A Queen had duties, after all.

Chapter Eight

Up was down, down was up, and the world spun uncontrollably for several terrifying moments.

Rose clung to Maleficent’s hand for dear life, feeling as though she might fly away into the void if she let go, until the green light that had engulfed her vision faded back to reveal the material world.

“It gets better with experience,” came Maleficent’s voice from somewhere above her. It was only then that Rose became aware that she had fallen to her knees, sharp stones on the ground digging uncomfortably against her through the fabric of her dress.

“I do hope so,” Rose managed to say. She stood again with Maleficent’s help and, having no further excuses to hold on, reluctantly let go of her hand. Frigid winds whipped around them, stinging Rose’s cheeks and making her shiver as she looked around at where they had transported to.
