//Hi again.

So, the walls in our old place finally got fixed like a week before Christmas, but we continued to live in chaos bc we were convinced 2x that we were going to be able to buy a house, so we weren't really trying to settle in.

I did a 2 month long depression treatment that involved driving 30-45 minutes out every weekday to get my head strapped into a machine that tapped on it really loudly for 20 minutes. All I got was a complete absence of free time and an increase in headaches. Also worth noting that I was still living in a tarped up home for the entirety of the treatment, so the effectiveness of the treatments may have been compromised.

Due to a combination of switching from opening to closing shifts in order to make it to the aforementioned treatments, which apparently left me with lower seniority, and scheduling being the hot messes they've always been, I ended up being subjected to a dramatic increase in physical and emotional stimuli. I did not comprehend this extra overstimulation until it was too late, much like one likely wouldn't notice their pipes were leaking if their house had already been caught in a flood. All I knew was that I ended up calling out a lot more, and because I was trying to look good for a home loan, I ended up using all my vacation time to pay myself out. I had been planning to ask for a vacation at the beginning of the year just to give my mind a break for a bit, but honestly, who knows if that actually would've done anything at this point.

Thanks to the bitchiest seller's agent in existence, the house my mom and I should be living in right now got to sit on the market for months longer waiting for a cash offer bc apparently an FHA loan with underwriter's approval for over asking wasn't fancy enough to be trusted to close. Our home-owning dreams unfortunately hit a massive roadblock when the new year started, bc my mom finally had to file her last round of taxes, which decreased any loan we might qualify for to basically nothing in our state.

With the threads my mental health was hanging on by having snapped several times over by now, I finally went on medical leave in February. It just seemed pointless continuing to pretend I was in working condition given all the shifts, meals, and meds I continued to skip. Almost a month in, my mom found a new rental opportunity for us, and we started packing to move out.

April's our first month in this new place. I'm nowhere near being unpacked, and I don't know how I'm going to be when I have to go back to work (which is farther now) until I can quit sometime soon, hopefully. However, I am seeing some progress in my depressive symptoms, and I'm mostly healed from the injuries I sustained during the move-in process. Anyway, I'm obviously not in a stable enough place to completely end my hiatus, but I would like to write a bit on here again, so if that sounds fun and you're willing to be patient with replies in the meantime, hit me up, I guess?

//Brief Update:

House has mold -> guys came to tear up walls -> did not have permits and weren't very professional -> half of house has been unusable since mid-August -> also, most of the remaining half looks like a warzone from setting things aside

Social security is giving my mom less than she was supposed to get -> qualifying for a real house looking highly unlikely anytime soon

Pain has been flaring up -> worker's comp not communicating quickly if at all -> still waiting on treatment

Heat wave -> passing out after work -> missing meals and meds -> poor mental and physical health

Phone broke -> lost pictures and drafts -> still not logged back into all my apps -> attempts to rewrite replies = writer's block from frustration of losing drafts

Tried to join my mom for part of her vacation to catch a break -> got majorly sunburnt on 1st day -> spent most of second day at hospital because stress regarding current life situation apparently gave my mom shingles and bell's palsy, made worse by her fibromyalgia -> both of us came home early -> next few days will be spent trying to help her with her medication regimen and general health

Lavellan froze at that name. Suddenly, all the pieces were clicking into place. The strange tattoos, the aggressive fighting style, the stoic demeanor... "Fenris? Like, from the Tale of the Champion?" he asked, his eyes wide with awe. He'd heard Varric, and to a lesser extent, the Champion herself, mention the other elf a few times before, but he never thought he'd actually see him in person. The warrior was infamous for his work fighting corruption in Kirkwall, helping free numerous slaves, killing... 'Oh, shit!'

"S-Sorry, I just, uh, really admire your accomplishments," the Inquisitor continued in a nervous half-truth. "I'm... Lavellan." Right. He went by his old clan's name. Nothing that could reveal his identity. At least, he hoped not. "Sorry. ...Again. Ugh, I-I think I left my head back in Nevarra." He smiled awkwardly, hoping Fenris found his nervousness charming and not suspicious.

"...So, you uh, mentioned you had work to do in Minrathous?" Lavellan asked hesitantly, trying to get a better handle on the situation while avoiding the topics of his own identity and motives. "Or did you mean House Pavus specifically?" Creators, he hoped the answer to that last question was "no".

Forest

Deciding not to bring up the fact that he was actually quite disconnected from his own culture, Lavellan simply gave an appreciative nod at his apology apparently being unnecessary. He didn’t want to seem as though he was searching for pity by sharing any details on the struggles he had regarding his memories and his past in general.

It was good to hear that Fenris had come to terms with the lines marring his body, but Lavellan still felt guilty for drawing attention to them. Still, there was something in the other elf’s words that spoke to him. “I understand what you mean,” he said softly. Their situations were entirely different of course, but he still remembered the utter despair he felt at learning his friend and mentor, Solas, had been using him and the rest of the Inquisition to further his own agenda and was the one responsible for the accident that had robbed him of his memory and, ultimately, his arm. He had learned to live with the Anchor though, and now, he was learning to live with his prosthetic.

Looking up as he was spoken to once more, the Inquisitor started to refuse the offer but instead replied, “I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you, but if you could point me in the direction of Minrathous, I’d greatly appreciate it.” Then, realizing he’d never even seen the exterior of Dorian’s home, he added, “Specifically House Pavus?”

There was something different about this elf. The contraption that seemed to be a replacement for an arm, the quiet nature of him, his stature. An elf, likely having been Dalish, meaning to travel to Minrathous? Most definitely intriguing.

The mention of house Pavus was yet another thing to pique his interest. He adjusted the joints of his armor and thought for a moment. “If you seek to enter Minrathous, you may need an alternative route. I know several… quieter ways into the city. I have work to do there, anyhow, and there is strength in numbers.” He smirked slightly to himself. “As long as you don’t mind the townsfolk keeping a fair distance from me. I’m afraid I’m known well there.”

He stopped for a moment. “Hm. I’m afraid we’ve skipped introductions,” He cleared his throat. “I am Fenris. Though, the Imperium has taken to calling me the Blue Wraith.” He shrugged. “A fitting enough title, I suppose.”

//Alright, well, other than a few things that still need to be italicized or whatnot, I think I'm actually finished! I'm going to polish and post everything, and then I'll get some much-needed rest in.

My life still isn't really sorted out, and tomorrow's my Monday, so I doubt I'll be super on top of replies going forward, but this is something that makes me happy, so I'm going to attempt to be a little more consistent. For now, I'll say my goal is at least one reply a week. Obviously, I hope to do a lot more, but hopefully, that laughably small goal will keep me from disappearing for months at a time again. 🙃

Anyway, I'll just go ahead and post everything right now. If you don't see a thread you were expecting, I either replied to it before all this, or it's one of the many casualties of Tumblr's great notification purge, and I didn't see it in the past dozen or so posts of each of my accounts. //Okay, so, obviously it has been... a while, and I'm very sorry for how long I've been away, and how I haven't said anything before now. Posting this on my blog that's been on hiatus the longest, because once I'm back, my hiatus will be completely ended across all accounts.

To summarize my latest disappearance, here's a list of everything that has happened in my life these past few months that has added to my lack of activity here.

Horrid mental health, including my depression being close to, if not, the worst it's ever been

Related to above note, trying to start a time-intensive magnet treatment, since antidepressants don't seem to work, only to have my insurance deny coverage for it for a bunch of nitpicky reasons, leaving me currently waiting to hear back on an appeal the clinic is trying to put through

Two traffic tickets, one of which I'm still waiting to fight in court

My car making horrifying sounds on the way to work one day, leading me to discover that my extended warranty wasn't set up properly and leaving me without reliable transportation for long stretches of time due to miscommunication between the warranty's insurance company and my mechanic while I was waiting for it to be fixed

Work schedule becoming a lot less consistent, with my shifts ranging from everything between opening to closing to miss, making my sleep patterns practically nonexistent

Multiple sicknesses and injuries, including my mom getting covid (she's better now, and I fortunately never caught it) and me currently being out of work due to my knees

Pain and stress from said knees leading me to forget to call in for jury duty the night before my group was asked to be at court the next morning, which, in turn, caused my mental health to spiral for a while, even after successfully attending the two days I was called in for after getting rescheduled the next week

Attempts to finish a backlog of chores consistently slowed down by physical and mental limitations

So, as you can see, my life's been fairly hectic recently. I'm not trying to excuse my absence or lack of communication, but I do think that all of my wonderful writing partners deserve some sort of explanation for where I've been. I never meant to be away this long, and I hope it won't be much longer before I return, but I don't want to potentially give any false hope to anyone, considering I've thought on multiple occasions that I would only be away for one more week.

When I do start writing again, I will be saving all the replies I owe as drafts and waiting until they're finished to post them all at once. Hopefully, this will prevent me from becoming overwhelmed by any responses I might've otherwise gotten in between posts. If you notice that I have not replied to you when those mass posts go out, please let me know, because I have unfortunately noticed that Tumblr has eaten up some or all of my notes on several accounts. Also, don't feel pressured to respond to anything if you no longer wish to write with me. I will do my best to ensure nothing like this ever happens again, but I completely understand if my lack of communication prior to this has shaken any trust some of you may have had in my reliability.

“Oh my- I’m so sorry!” Lavellan stammered. “I didn’t mean to- I just assumed- …Please, forgive my insensitivity. I’m still learning about the world, and apparently, I’ve got a lot more learning to do.” His face had reddened quite a bit in embarrassment, and he kept his gaze down for a moment as he retrieved his arrows from a few of the corpses nearby, cleaning off any undamaged ones to place back in his quiver.

As he went about salvaging the arrows and stewing in his shame, Lavellan remembered a conversation he’d once had with Solas. “You know,” he said, “I was once told by a man who was apparently quite the expert on the subject that vallaslin originally served a similar purpose. Of course, over time, they lost that meaning, though, and most Dalish don’t remember what they once stood for. Obviously, your situation is different, but maybe you can make those markings your own too. It could be a way to spite whoever gave them to you. …Sorry, that probably sounds silly. Forget I said anything. I should probably just stop talking now…” As if to force himself to comply, he bit his lip and looked down once more, wishing he weren’t so awkward in social situations.

He raised a hand to stay Lavellan’s awkward apology and smiled somewhat. “It’s alright. I know they must look strange, especially to those who have Valaslin. Different cultures, I suppose.” He sighed. There were times he’d been jealous of what he saw in most Dalish elves, especially in their caravans. They all seemed so close, familial. Though, Kirkwall was an exception in many regards.

Still, they had different plights from him. He couldn’t assume to know their troubles any better than they might know his. All he could really do was respect them and their culture, and occasionally trade with them if he could. Not to mention returning stolen Dalish elves from encampments.

When Lavellan went on to explain the potential history of Valaslin, he halted for a moment. It was curious, fascinating, not something he’d be able to find in a book. He could only assume this man he spoke of was a mage; Traversing the Fade in search of lost memories of ancient people.

“I have had them for as long as I can remember, though that isn’t particularly long,” He awkwardly cleared his throat. “I have made them my own, over time. I may have been used to do harm, but I can now use the brands they gave me to do good.” He replaced his sword back in its sheathe and attempted to wipe some of the blood off his face.

“Do you require any more assistance? I could help you find where you need to go, if you wanted. I know these paths well, by now, and it’s not particularly safe to be alone.” A little hypocritical to say, considering that he was also alone. He’d been alone for a long time.

//Courtship, absolutely not. This man has so much social anxiety, he thought the butterflies in his stomach from having a crush on Dorian were a fear response. He's only been with two people in bed, and that's because they asked him. Or at least, Dorian asked. The other guy mostly just kept taking things further when he didn't hear any protests. Lavellan would never dare to assume that the object of his affections actually wanted to be with him, so he's not going to make the first move. Also, his complete amnesia means that in threads where he hasn't gotten together with Dorian, he has no recollection of his past relationship experience, so he has no clue what he's doing mentally. Once in an established relationship where they've become intimate, though, his methods of enticing his partner might include rubbing his thumb up the length of their arm while holding hands, giving them lighter, more teasing kisses, looking at them suggestively, possibly while biting at his bottom lip and/or tucking his hair back, and wearing/removing certain clothing to get a response out of them.

//Oh, 100%. He'd only be intimate with someone he was in a romantic relationship anyway, so he thinks of the whole thing as an expression of love. During, he ranges anywhere from serious yet passionate to giddy and lighthearted to teasing lovingly, and afterwards, he is all about cuddles and soft kisses if permitted.
