Regulus couldn't remember the first memory of watching Sirius get hurt or the first time he got hurt. But remembered the first time he learnt about the stars. He remembered the first time he learnt about the sun. He remembered the first time he learnt about storms and the rain. He remembered what was important to him.

Regulus was five when he met Barty Crouch Jr. He didn't remember where but he remembered Barty and only; Barty.

Barty couldn't remember the first memory of his father hitting him. But he remembered the first time he learnt that stars were already dead. He remembered the first time he saw his mother in the hospital bed. He remembered the first time he threw and threw his fist into a tree until he could see nothing but bone and blood. He remembered the first time he saw hope. That the stars were infact alive. He remembered what was important to him.

Barty was five when he met Regulus Arcturus Black. They were at a Ministry party but he didn't care. All he wanted to do was keep looking into those eyes that were full of stars after a storm. All he remembered was Reggie and only; Reggie.

I want to change the title to "safe and sound" to "we are lost to the fire" because Barty and Regulus are not safe and sound (omg spoiler) and Regulus is an arsonist (not spoiler).

I really like your regulus take and was wondering if you had any other ideas?

I have a few different iterations on Regulus depending on the story I'm writing.

The whole 'Regulus is his father's favourite son' is extremely vindictive. He sees Sirius as a coward who left him behind without a thought. So he's angry and wants revenge on his brother. This Regulus is definitely a chess player. You think you've got him but thats what he wants you to think. He is ready to face everything if it means hurting Sirius and inadvertently hurting himself and the people who care about him. Hes almost Machiavellian but he can turn back before it's too late. Its almost the question of does he want to?

However, the Regulus that runs away and sprouts Shakespeare to Barty is someone who doesn't want to think about his family. He is not just physically running away but mentally. He will happily play pretend with Barty as long as Barty is with him. This Regulus is overwhelmingly relying on Barty emotionally which isn't great when both of them are trying to work out who they are individually and romantically.

If the first story is about revenge, the second is a coming of age story.

(The Prince story was written because I was bored and I had just watched House of the Dragon so no thought went into that.)

Regulus and Barty who are and always have been the secret third thing. Their level of devotion and care is strange and off putting, they would anything for each other no questions asked. they hate each others guts and will scream for hours and if that doesn't work they will come to blows. (Notably one time that didn't work either and they started a cold war that became the rest of hogwarts problem). They never see the point of explaining their thoughts or their relationship. They are both cruel and mean and quiet in the worst ways, but they are each others and they do not need anyone else to understand

a man self immolated in front of the israeli embassy in washington dc yesterday. not just any man. an active member of the us air force. he live streamed his death, and said that he refused to be complicit in a genocide any longer. he said that compared to what palestinians were facing every day, setting himself alight was nothing.

let me reiterate. an active duty air force member burned himself alive because he was so disgusted by what the us government was openly supporting. he live-streamed his own suicide, so the whole world could bear witness as a man in his military uniform set himself on fire to protest his government’s complicity in the horrors that we have all been forced to watch happen in real time. he became a new horror. footage of the immolation blurs him out the moment the fire catches, but you can hear him. it is over in seconds, really, but you can hear him screaming. he shouts “free palestine” until his body physically cannot make any sounds other than guttural screams of agony. and then he falls silent. a police officer arrives and points a gun at his still burning body, shouting at him to get down on the ground. and it is over.

his name was Aaron Bushnell. he was twenty five years old. and he isn’t here anymore because the political ruling class has decided that genocide is perfectly fine as long as it preserves imperialism. in the coming days, people will try to discredit him. to say that he was mentally unstable. they will try to bury his actions to save face and defend israel’s propaganda. do not let them. aaron knew what he was doing. he knew what he was doing when he put on his military uniform, set up his twitch stream, and made his final walk up to the embassy. he knew what would happen to him when he flicked that lighter. do not let them forget. aaron’s blood is on the hands of the political ruling class.

The exact moment every protest turns into a revolution, is when the army refuses to defend the establishment any longer.

And THAT was the message Aaron was sending out. How many units now are ready to reject orders? How low does their morale have to sink before they say 'enough!' How long until they stop pointing guns at the protestors outside, and run over and join them instead?

This is dangerous territory for a government that is hellbent on ignoring every crisis it creates
