Living Legends 2 - Manticore
I haven’t posted anything here in quite some time, but figure I’d post an update on what I’ve been working on.  I’ve learned a decent bit since the last post - I’ve joined up with the Living Legends 2 team, which is a fan-made game set in the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe.
First assignment was the Manticore - one of the most widely used and effective tanks throughout the succession wars.  Modeled in Blender, textured in Substance Painter.

Just a quick update on the status of the Wasp. I’ve been updating my thread on the Tigsource devlog forums a bit more in-depth for this project, so for more info head here: https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=1bloae5ltk1rmnpurfrpoobib5&topic=68973.0

Clegg Holdfast’s pod racer: KT9 Wasp
Some detail added in, still a lot more to go.  My hope is to have all the racers ready to go once someone gets model replacement working.

Turret tower:
Working on a tower defense game with a couple of other folks, which originally started out as an entry for the Ludum Dare game jam last year. The theme was ‘running out of space’ so we made a pretty basic tower defense level, however as time goes on the map slowly floods.
I’m still getting the hang of unwrapping/baking and using Substance Painter, but I’m excited to get this far.  This tower for example is the first time I’ve tried baking down normals from a high(er) poly mesh.

Neva Kee update!
The cockpit is pretty simple for the moment, getting the shape of the nose right is proving difficult.

Plug8 Thrust Coil upgrade
Started this one earlier today, pretty much done as far as the mesh goes. Still gotta unwrap. Blegh.

Status of Ody Mandrell’s pod racer
This one is pretty early on, basically just getting the ‘base’ going before starting on the details.  Ody was the racer I beat the game with for the first time 20 years ago, so I’m excited to get this one going.

Status of the FG 8T8-T (Neva Kee)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neva Kee’s pod-racer has been an interesting project.  There are essentially two ‘versions’ of this vehicle.  The more commonly seen variant is seen in Racer: Revenge, with the triangular fins radiating from the center of the pod and ditches the ‘hood’ for a different style intake:

However, when I found this picture of a model created for the film in a behind-the-scenes book, I knew it was what I wanted to base the model off of.

Anyways, have a lot more to show off when I get around to it, so stay tuned!

Status of the Titan 2150 (Ratts Tyrell)
This is one of the first engines I’ve started on.  As such, there are likely several areas where the topology could be improved.  In the film, most of the pod racers have a full-scale physical props as well as a digital model.  As these two versions sometimes differ significantly, I try to combine elements from the two to best represent what is seen in the film.  Good source images outside of the film are hard to come by, so often times I have to improvise in areas unseen in the film or behind the scenes photos.
This one still needs a good bit of detailing, but overall the mesh is pretty far along.

After much procrastination, I’ve finally got a start on a blog.  Aside from being an incentive to document and progress on projects I’m working on, it provides a place to (hopefully) interact with other developers.
I work full-time in IT, but in my spare time I’ve been working on learning: C#, Blender, Photoshop, Substance painter/designer, and Unity.  I can’t say I’m incredibly experienced yet, but I’m enjoying my current projects.
Pictured - Star Wars Ep 1 Racer project/mod
There are a couple of folks out there with projects involving digging into the guts of the original Star Wars racer game from 1999 and providing methods of pulling out and replacing assets in the game.  Unfortunately, these projects are on hold/inactive.
I am working on high-res assets which will (hopefully) be used to replace the 90′s era graphics once replacement is possible.
