The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.
To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.
On the 17th, dead silence.
People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.
But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.
What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’
A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.
If you want to join in, here’s what to do:
Do:
Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
Come back on the 18th and check in
Don’t:
Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)
Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.
Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.
Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.
Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.
Me; well, maybe if people taught children about mental issues and how to cope with them, perhaps we would understand what was wrong and learn how to fix it instead of suffering for years on end.
Researchers; ...phones, that’s the issue!
Actually though you all, we need to teach mental health to students at an early age so they can understand and identify a problem, maybe that way we could develop healthy coping mechanisms instead of unhealthy.
The shot cuts to lance, he’s in his bathrobes with a towel in his head, we only see Lance.
After a few moments he raps on the door, and quietly says that there is something he needs to talk about. There is no response but the door opens, Lance smiles weakly before walking in.
We don’t know who he’s talking to, the shot only shows him on a bed with his posture inducing a shy and nervous state.
“I just, had to tell you this. Just.. just in case.” He’s talking with a low tone, works placent and jumpy.
He lets out a sight before starting up an explanation.
“For a long time, I had this weird feeling when I was around you; like I was sick but I knew I wasn’t. I felt like this all the time, until that moment when we finally talked like we were friends- paladin to paladin.” He’s fidgeting a lot.
“Then, when the feeling finally left, you went with it. I thought I’d been cured but a stronger feeling replaced the old, i was lonely without you.” Lace hasn’t looked up to this mystery of a person yet.
“When you finally came back all my walls were crashed down and suddenly I knew what the feeling was but I couldn’t accept what I knew to be true.” The shot has now fixated to show Lance, and a figure that we can’t clearly see.
“Love, I felt love. For you, Keith.” The shot suddenly shows clear, portraying Keith. Keith has a surprised look on his face, he doesn’t speak.
“It’s stupid- I know I’m stupid, I’m just going to go-.” Lance attempts to leave, big Keith stops him. Eye contact is made and without warning-
The screen goes black and we hear Keith chuckle.
An image fades in eventually of the two cuddled together in front of a fireplace, the picture depicts the two kissing, cosmo wrapped at their feet. Writing sits at the bottom of the photo in blue sharpie ink, it reads;
I found, on my first and oldest MP3 player, A list of songs that help my anxiety not turn me into a piña colada. It’s literally 2003-2010 songs that are emo as hell. It’s honestly the weirdest thing.
