Harry's hand shot to his neck touching the offensive mark on his neck. He didn't even think to look in the mirror before he left today he knew there was something going on when Hermione stared at him with the mischievous smirk on her face before he left to meet with their prospective fathers today.

He couldn't even remember a time last night when she had an uninterrupted moment on his neck to leave a mark. He cursed his inattentiveness last night she always did know just how to distract him.

He looked around for something he could transfigure into a mirror or a scarf or something to hide it so that her father didn't see it when he arrived it was already embarrassing enough that his own father had seen it.

A little 'pop' sounded and his mother appeared looking from her husband to her son question in her eyes as she watched Harry's cheeks flush slightly.

"Harry, honey, what's wrong?"

"Nothing mum, Hermione was being funny today."

James laughed as he pulled his wand walking to his flustered son and cast a concealment charm after he pried Harry's hand from his neck.

Lily gasp and hid a little chuckle behind her hand. "Oh." She muttered and smiled. "I see."

Harry flushed a deeper red while plotting his payback to his dear fiance.

"James, love, you forgot this. I wanted to get it to you before Mr. Granger arrived." she handed him a small box and gave him a kiss on the cheek and with another pop she was gone.

The First Flower to Bloom in Spring - Chapter 15: Ivy

The arrival of the parachute had successfully interrupted the fight. Now, the trio’s focus had shifted to the content of the metallic box, and of course the note. Prim’s cheeks turned red with embarrassment. Being scolded by her mentor via parachute was mortifying. And on live TV, too!

“What does it say?” asked Peeta, who seemed relieved that something had put a stop to their argument.

“Haymitch’s yelling at us,” sheepishly replied Prim, handing him the note.

“He’s yelling at you,” corrected Rue with a smile, “I did nothing wrong.”

She felt like rolling her eyes at her friend, but Haymitch’s scolding was too fresh. Sass would have to wait. “At least, he sent us a suturing kit,” she said instead, “now I can stitch up your wound.” In the end, this little parachute was comforting too. It reminded her that their mentor was watching over them in his own grumpy way. And now, she had everything she needed to properly tend to Peeta’s wound.

nyxeris orana ↳ ruination

When Luke Skywalker created his new Jedi Order, Nyxeris’ parents couldn’t wait to pass her off to him. It brewed a resentment within the young girl that she struggled to let go of despite Master Skywalker’s best efforts.

A resentment that made the final nudge towards the Dark Side as natural as breathing.

Leaving Master Skywalker and the Order, Nyxeris began her training under Supreme Leader Snoke. Excelling in all forms of mental-Force manipulation she made a name for herself as the First Order’s most efficient interrogator and infiltrator. Able to extract information without laying a finger on the target.

Thanks to Snoke’s tutelage and the power of the Dark Side, Nyxeris thrived.

Until the Hosnian Cataclysm.

When the First Order destroyed those planets the loss of life caused a wound in the Force that brought Nyxeris to her knees. Feeling the loss of so many lives the young Sith unconsciously attempted to sever her connection to the Force, succeeding only in muting it. Coming to terms with the emotional aftermath, Nyxeris is conflicted about her position within the First Order. As well as her position within the Force.

She had always thought of the Jedi as weak. Offered power but too afraid to take it. But perhaps that sort of power wasn’t supposed to be taken by anyone. Such large scale devastation and brutality had never held much appeal to her, Nyxeris preferring to have power over the living as opposed to the dead. Haunted by the deaths of countless beings, she now struggled to find the appeal in power at all.

When Kylo Ren brings aboard a young woman brimming with the Force, Nyxeris senses a chance at redemption. Helping Rey and the Resistance won’t bring back all the people the First Order had killed. People she had killed.

But it was a place to start.

Writing tips for long fics that helped me that no one asked for.

1.) Don't actually delete content from your WIP unless it is minor editing - instead cut it and put it in a secondary document. If you're omitting paragraphs of content, dialog, a whole scene you might find a better place for it later and having it readily available can really save time. Sometimes your idea was fantastic, but it just wasn't in the right spot.

2.) Stuck with wording the action? Just write the dialog then revisit it later.

3.) Stuck on the whole scene? Skip it and write the next one.

4.) Write on literally any other color than a white background. It just works. (I use black)

5.) If you have a beta, while they are beta-ing have them read your fic out loud. Yes, I know a lot of betas/writers do not have the luxury of face-timing or have the opportunity to do this due to time constraints etc but reading your fic out loud can catch some very awkward phrasing that otherwise might be missed. If you don't have a beta, you read it out loud to yourself. Throw some passion into your dialog, you might find a better way to word it if it sounds stuffy or weird.

6.) The moment you have an idea, write it down. If you don't have paper or a pen, EMAIL it to yourself or put it in a draft etc etc. I have sent myself dozens of ideas while laying down before sleep that I 10/10 forgot the next morning but had emailed them to myself and got to implement them.

7.) Remember - hits/likes/kudos/comments are not reflective of the quality of your fic or your ability to write. Most people just don't comment - even if they say they do, they don't, even if they preach all day about commenting, they don't, even if they are a very popular blog that passionately reminds people to comment - they don't comment (I know this personally). Even if your fic brought tears to their eyes and it haunted them for weeks and they printed it out and sent it to their friends they just don't comment. You just have to accept it. That being said - comment on the fic you're reading now, just do it, if you're 'shy' and that's why you don't comment the more you comment the better you'll get at it. Just do it.

8.) Remove unrealistic daily word count goals from your routine. I've seen people stress 1500 - 2000 words a day and if they don't reach that they feel like a failure and they get discouraged. This is ridiculous. Write when you can, but remove absurd goals. My average is 500 words a day in combination with a 40 hour a week job and I have written over 200k words from 2022-2023.

9.) There are dozens of ways to do an outline from precise analytical deconstruction that goes scene by scene to the minimalist bullet point list - it doesn't matter which one you use just have some sort of direction. A partial outline is better than no outline.

10.) Write for yourself, not for others. Write the fic you know no one is going to read. Write the fic that sounds ridiculous. You will be so happy you put it out in the world and there will be people who will be glad it exists.
