idk man i just find hux and kylo’s speech patterns v interesting

i could, and probably will, write an essay on all of this, but the main point of intrigue is the sentence types they use.

Kylo Ren, an intimidating figure who strikes fear into the hearts of the living both sides of the light, sticks near exclusively to declarative and interrogative sentences. When Kylo does use imperatives -typically expected of someone of his standing- they’re often undermined by the phrases or words he uses immediately beforehand: such as starting the sentence with “and”, making it seem like he’s forcing himself to remember to use them. [Which heavily implies the fact that Kylo is forced into this position of power and fear; it is not, nor ever will be, his natural standing.]

General Hux however, uses imperatives hugely when speaking to everyone aside from Ren, in which he sinks into using pretty much only declaratives to Kylo’s interrogatives. This shows a huge change of character when they converse with each other, that happens with p much no one else. Hux boasts imperatives, making it his default manner of speech, but not with Ren. With Ren he sinks into much more level power, neither having more than the other - despite the fact that Hux could easily up Kylo in speech and Kylo could easily up Hux in strength.  They have a silent understanding in their relationship which is not what you’d expect.

Hux knows Kylo is level with him regarding positions of power in the hierarchy: he appears to resent this, but his speech gives him away.

Hux purposefully, whether consciously or not, changes his default speech pattern when he’s with Kylo to make them level in power. It’s a very obvious change, and leaves Hux vulnerable and small, yet he still does it.

But only with Ren.

Hux whines again, trying to spread his legs further apart to accommodate Kylo’s fully-engorged knot but his limbs have reached their angle of capacity, and the alpha’s knot remains unmoved. In the afterglow of their first coupling, Kylo cannot bring himself to break eye contact with Hux. Their hands are gently entwined between them as they lie on their backs atop Hux’s bed, sheets in disarray and stained with evidence of their meet. Heads turned inwards, their gazes are locked on each other whilst the heat of arousal settles down comfortably in their bodies, soulfully satiated.

There are flecks of ocean grey in Hux’s emerald green eyes; Kylo is weighed down by the jewels, drowning in the ashen waters. He takes a shuddering breath, his fingers tightening around Hux’s for just a moment as though wanting to make sure that this is reality.

“I hate the way you look at me,” Hux says, still short of breath from their passions. His heaving chest is a giveaway too but Kylo is fixated on the way his green eyes appear crystalline in the dim light.

“Why?” Kylo answers with a smirk, amused that he is able to get under Hux’s skin with such ease but his smile soon fades when Hux’s expression remains hurt.

“Because you look at me like you know me.”

Kylo wants to look at the maps of freckles across Hux’s skin. He wants to point out the hours that they have spent together after shifts. He wants to show just how full his heart is when Hux is next to him but instead, Kylo says, “Don’t I?”

Hux turns his head, looking up at the grey ceiling.

“I hope not.”

“Why?”

“Because this glorious thing will be brought to an end.” Hux closes his eyes. “Because you won’t choose me, Ren. We’re different.”

Kylo manoeuvres himself closer to Hux, laying on his size so that he’s able to cup Hux’s cheek with his other hand and bringing their gazes back together again. A fire reignites in Kylo’s belly.

“Is that a bad thing?” He speaks softly, now seeing the emotion in Hux’s eyes. “That we’re different? The suns and the moons are different. Life wouldn’t exist without either.”

To Kylo’s surprise, Hux ponders over his words. Through the Force, Kylo can sense the disquiet settling within Hux’s turbulent mind as though he’s been dwelling on their differences for a while, believing romantic incompatibility as a result. But now, there’s an image of a sun and a moon in Hux’s mind, bright and unwavering.

“You’re a fool, Kylo Ren.”

Kylo shrugs, smirking. “You’ve called me worse things.”

It has come to my attention that some people apparently didn't know about the Duel of the Fates script??

Okay so here's some of the official concept art for the original (and better) direction that the sequels were meant to go down.

1. Many cool fights were cut from the script. Kylo was supposed to fight a form of Vader to outline how he's always been in the shadow of expectations that Vader left. The Knights of Ren actually got used for more than just a brief battle. The Knights hunted the Resistance actively, and as seen in the art, it wasn't just Ren or Rey fighting them. In fact, Rey kills them, and it makes her fear that she's slipping to the darkside. Rey runs off as Luke had and goes into hiding so that she doesn't use her teachings to be anything like Kylo. In her fight with Kylo Ren, she's blinded.

2. The story also went a far darker route. Years had passed between the movies. Characters were older, and changes were made.

For example, Rose and Finn get sent away to a First Order labor camp for their crimes against the FO.

While I can't find an image for it, the Resistance also takes fewer prisoners with them. Rigging FO ships to explode if they attempted to escape, disguising bb8 as a FO droid to rob their ships, all that fun stuff that wasn't featured as much in the sequels we got.

My favorite part was that Hux was the chancellor. All of the power he wanted was his, and Kylo was alright relinquishing it. It was proof that they were stronger together, with Hux admiring the force and even having a lightsaber collection of his own. Chancellor Hux wishes he had the force and is frustrated that he doesn't, so he keeps Kylo as a tool to use instead of banishing him from the FO or simply killing him.

The darker aspect comes from what Hux does after the Resistance defeats the First Order. In shame for all that Hux lost, he commits suicide with a lightsaber. Another thing to note is that if you read about it, it's mentioned that the lightsaber was supposed to be purple. The concept art, however, shows a red one, like Kylo's. (I'll have to note this particular fact down for later.)

3. Kylo gets stronger. A Sith holocron guides him to a new master, from whom he learns to drain life from and use force lightning.

Eventually, these teachings are used to kill Kylo's new teacher, bringing him closer to the dark side than he was before, despite the internal conflict still being present.

Kylo was also intended to get a new mask! It may or may not have been intended to be a show of his journey, but imo the concept art seemed interesting enough to note.

4. How Kylo's redemption was handled. While hunting a sith artifact, the artifact senses the light in him and pretty much explodes, leaving him disfigured and severely injured. The locals of the planet, despite knowing who he is, help him recover. Kylo begins to reconsider his actions due to the kindness he was shown and works his way towards redemption.

He still dies, but only when Leia stops him from killing Rey. He sacrifices his life to save her as in the original, making his death the endgame in both scripts.

5. Relationships. Reylo isn't a thing, I think she actually kisses Poe or something at a point. Rose and Finn are canon and at the end of their story have force sensitive children. That could have been in the original if not for Disney's "issue" with them being together. (That's not a story for today)

6. Rey's true name was revealed to be Rey Solana. Not Skywalker.

To conclude, the script was fascinating to me. There was redemption, suicide, new characters, different relationships to explore, and so much potential for a darker yet more interesting story than what we got. Thank you for reading!
