Yeah, she's dead here. The main reason Zoro runs off in the first place is because he hasn't fully gotten over her death yet, so his 8 year old brain assumes he just needs to go fight someone about it.

But he's already stronger than the adults at this point, so no one really proves a challenge for him... So he leaves, still 8 years old, to find stronger opponents. It just so happens his first "victim" is Dracule Freaking Mihawk. The rest is history 👍

Is the battle between zoro and mihawk at the baratie any different in this au? Love your blog btw!! :D

Yeah kinda! I've wanted to make a comic for a while now but I don't think I'll ever get to it, so I'll try to summarize it here instead.

First of all, Zeff & Sanji immediately recognize Zoro now when the straw hats show up. Not too much is different on this front, it just opens up more room for Zeff & straw hat interactions. As well as Zoro & Sanji bickering 👍

The actual Mihawk fight goes really similar to canon, but the general feelings and dialogue are different. Mihawk would probably say something like "I didn't realize this day would come so soon" and Zoro would clench his teeth harder around Wado like "You said the next time we saw each other we'd fight."

Sanji probably also stays back for this version, ofc he quietly begs his best friend not to throw his life away, he clutches at his suit's lapels and wonders why he's friends with such an idiot, but deep down he can only picture the All Blue, he can only picture his own little hands playing with a stove for the first time, and he looks at Zoro and can only picture an 8-year-old boy with stars in his eyes.

Mihawk might skip his kogatana this time and immediately unsheath Yoru, since he already knows and respects Zoro's skill. It's still a super one-sided duel, but Zoro does seem to stand a minor chance. (He's had 8 years to observe Mihawk's fighting style to try and prepare for it, of course).

There's also ofc the angst of the aftermath, of Zoro writing home to Koshiro and explaining what happened. Koshiro isn't thrilled that they fought so soon after Zoro first left to hunt bounties, he isn't thrilled it's only been 3 years, he's never been thrilled in the first place about the concept of two people he adores feeling the need to fight to the death.

And then there's his conversation with Mihawk. The disappointment, the tension, the bittersweet understanding. Koshiro just wants what's best for his son, he wants his son to succeed and to follow his goals. He knows Mihawk only wants the same, he knows Mihawk just wants someone to overtake him so he can finally settle down and live that quiet life he only mutters about.

But um yeah the baratie fight is a big highlight in this AU hehe.

How does perona feel about her new little brother?

He's a MEANIEBUTT, a STINKYHEAD, a total WEINER, he's ANNOYING and WEIRD and he ALWAYS LEAVES HIS SWORDS ALL OVER THE LIVING ROOM, and he's so so STRONG, he's stronger than I am and he's only like, EIGHT, right? And Papa says he's only going to get STRONGER, and I'm so PROUD of him, but I also know he wants to take Papa's place someday, and I get a really bad feeling when I think about that. I don't really know why. I think it's my job as his big sister to keep him safe, right? I want him to be eight. I know I'm only twelve, but... I dunno.

Can dracula or koshi cook? If yes, who's the better cook?

Both of them can cook, yeah!

Mihawk is definitely the better of the two, but that doesn't mean Koshiro is bad at all. They normally take turns making meals.

... I actually have some ideas about more specific details regarding their tastes and whatnot, so I'll put that under the cut

Again they're both decent at cooking overall, and Mihawk is a lot better in most cases, but there are a few things that Koshiro is actually a little better at himself!

I think Koshiro is better at preparing raw foods. Mihawk knows how to do some simple recipes with it, but Koshiro can get a lot more creative and complex. There's also a few soups he can make that Mihawk just can't really wrap his head around.

Outside of that, everyone has their preferred cook for some foods:

Perona will eat anything sweet, doesn't matter who or what it comes from, but she has a secret soft spot for Mihawk's cake baking skills

Zoro is similar but with rice. Doesn't matter what the dish is, he's gonna eat the damn rice... Though they have picked up on his tendency to finish Koshiro's onigiri quicker than anything else, scarfing it down like it's his last meal

Mihawk would never say it out loud, but he also won't deny your claim if you were to say his favorite breakfast food is the specific way Koshiro cooks his eggs sunny side up

Koshiro will swear up and down from the tops of the hills that he hasn't eaten anything better than Mihawk's omurice since his mother's own cooking (as a side note here, Koshiro likes pretty much anything Mihawk cooks)

And with favorites comes least favorites:

Perona already despises vegetables, but she'll eat them if she's hungry or promised dessert afterwards. Despite this, she flat-out refuses to eat brussel sprouts of any kind. ... And Mihawk's green beans. Something about the amount of salt he uses, but they think it might be more out of spite at this point after he cut back on it

Zoro will still eat carrots prepare by Koshiro, but it's no secret he doesn't like how sweet they are

Mihawk will leave mashed potatoes off of his plate no matter who makes them. It's more of a texture thing than a flavor thing

Koshiro isn't a very picky eater, but I think it'd be cute if he and Kuina shared a distaste for something.. probably overly sour foods

BONUS: Koshiro's sister, Kanae, can only really cook to keep herself alive. Tashiro (Mihawk's bestie) just straight-up cannot cook. The kids love going over to either of their houses cuz it means lots of junk food

I don't think either of them are SUPER into public displays of affection, but when they do indulge a little, I like to separate it into two categories:

Obviously Mihawk has an advantage here because you can't really take him by surprise (observation haki), but at the end of the day I think they're both too cheesy to not get a little flustered from the sudden affection

ALTHOUGH, the subtle difference is that Koshiro generally goes for smaller stuff, like a peck on the cheek or intertwining their arms. Mihawk does it way less often, but when he DOES he goes big- grabbing the waist, lifting the chin for a dramatic kiss, etc etc

so basically whoever initiates PDA will inevitably make the other's brain melt lmao 😚
