That nightgown is from All About Style's Victorian collection which is harder to access than it used to be since the site is down now. I grabbed them from the 2011 backup hosted at the Wayback Machine here when I was building my homestead downloads folder. This was right before I learned @meowingcookie also uploaded everything from AAS's Victorian section with pictures and renamed everything, which is insanely cool of her.

Vasil is right by Éireann's side when she wakes up in the middle of the night with labor pains. He isn't much help, but he's there and that's all the help in the world.

It's almost egregious how much Éireann's daughter looks like Alessandro--I had to check her personality against his to make sure there wasn't some kind of super-late-in-the-game secondborn syndrome going on. No-one could doubt her genetics, that's for sure.

But no-one can doubt her parentage, either. Her name is Nora Misilevič and she's the apple of her father's eye. For she's definitely Vasya's daughter; Alessandro doesn't deserve her.

This is one of my favorite animations in this game, partly because I feel like it means something different with every couple that shares it. It's like I can see the gratitude in Éireann's eyes for this goofy man who, despite being kind of a dumbass, has done the best by her when no one else would.

Once Vasil has put Alessandro in his place, he invites Éireann over to see if he has a place in hers. After the drama with Alessandro's rejections, I'm a little nervous to see what she says--but I shouldn't be. Éireann accepts Vasya's proposal without hesitation and the hug she gives him afterward is so tight it makes me tear up a lil bit. What isn't pictured because it got superseded by the engagement pop-up: this is where Éireann fell in love with him.

So we do get a shotgun wedding after all, just not the one I initially expected. It's presided over by Otahkoika, who is the closest thing to a courthouse in Kainai, and goes without a hitch, which at this point is all I can hope for Éireann.

Vasil doesn't seem at all put off by his new wife already being pregnant with another man's child. Much the opposite: he seems excited for the baby to come. Honestly more excited than Éireann has been, up until this point. He just seems happy to be with her, no matter what.

When I sidestep over to the Benoit household to see how things are going on Vasil's side of this wild situation, I find that he's two steps ahead of me. See, Vasya got canned from the Schevchenko Mines because he would not stop getting into fistfights with the owner and now he's living in close quarters with the scoundrel who took advantage of his dear Miss Gallagher.

What happens next is...predictable.

See how Otahkoika is cheering watching Vasil whup Alessandro's ass? I'm not too proud to say that was me, watching this fight, crowing at my computer screen like a middle schooler. I'd had a glass of wine, I was playing the Sims, sweet back country justice was being wrought--in short, it was a good night.

Made better by Vasya showing Alessandro why you don't mess with a lady's heart and other more southerly parts and then not marry her--especially when she's best friends with a guy who's been pushing around minecarts for two years. Alessandro is pissed. I am elated.

I usually try to be all artsy and obscure/cut out the headlines but I needed to make absolutely clear to y'all that this autonomous kiss on Vasya's part was made with no existing romantic relationship between the two of them. Vasya showed up one day to visit a visibly pregnant Éireann Gallagher and, as far as I can tell, declare his love for her.

And it is love, on Vasya's side. Éireann doesn't fall quite as hard, but maybe it's just a little bit hard to believe that this could really be happening. Maybe she's wary of trusting a man who says he loves her--I sure as hell would be in her situation. But Vasil seems to be genuine in his adoration. He even manages to have a whole extra bolt for her, which I can't quite figure out but I'm just gonna go with.

Right when Éireann is starting to panic and I'm starting to research how teachers were replaced in incorporated territories in the old West (short answer: they usually weren't), Vasil Misilevič stops by and things start to get interesting.

Now, there's a couple things you should know about Vasya. The first is that despite being universally considered one of Kainai's more annoying residents, he's actually kind of a lifesaver when it comes to putting out fires. Does he also kind of give vibes like he would set those fires so he could save the day? Maybe. But in this case, the fire's already been set, by a certain Connecticut Yankee in Miss Gallagher's Bed.

The second thing you should know about Vasya is he carries a little bit of a torch for Éireann; at least he did in 1870 when he was her first kiss. Now, the reason I haven't shared this picture before that it's been two years and that kiss is the only thing that happened between them. ACR's threshold for first kisses is super low--they don't even have crush hearts--so I usually don't count them until they go somewhere. It didn't go anywhere, so I didn't count it.

When he shows up out of the blue after two years to kiss her again, though, I start to reevaluate.

Luckily, Éireann pops during harvest season (re: her two days off from her Maxis education career, which is perfect timing, so at least she's working with me) when there aren't kids around for her to corrupt with her loose morals (gotta love the 19th century). She spends those days trying to build up her relationship with Alessandro and get him interested in the idea of a baby. Maybe he just needs some time to process.

Except apparently he doesn't need some time to process, apparently he needs someone to kick his pixelated ass. Honestly, it's starting to get surprising at this point. They have a high LTR on both sides and Alessandro is a Popularity/Knowledge sim so his continued refusal only really makes sense if he's absolutely set on being the no-good villain in a country song. Maybe he hasn't heard how many of those songs end in murder.

Whatever it is, though, he isn't budging, leaving Éireann alone, unwed, and pregnant. And unless something comes along to save her, she thinks she's probably screwed.

Éireann and I are satisfied with our "first recorded shotgun wedding" plan right up until Alessandro has other ideas. This is when I start to worry--eagle-eyed simmers might have caught that Éireann was the only one with a love heart over her head the night they got jiggy with it and it seems that wasn't for nothing. Alessandro has no intention of making an honest woman out of Kainai's schoolteacher.

Éireann is pissed and I'm not far off either. Now, it takes two to tango and I was serious with that "if it isn't the consequences of her own actions" comment, but also? These are also the consequences of Alessandro's own actions: it is 1872, motherfucker, and you have way more power and way fewer consequences. But maybe he knows that because even Éireann's tears don't seem to move him.

And one day later, what does Éireann find but the consequences of her own actions? Normally I'm not one to shame, but Éireann is made of pixels and it's supposed to be 1872, so the shame is built into the time period. That being said, most of my shaming is actually worrying--schoolteachers aren't even supposed to get married at this point in history and there are no rules for backup teachers in the Homestead Challenge ruleset. Now, I'm all for playing loosey-goosey with the rules, but I'd rather not have to think about it and I know Éireann is probably thinking the exact same thing.

Thankfully, being in 2024 means I know something that Éireann doesn't: 1872 is the first recorded instance of the phrase "shotgun wedding."

When Éireann first starts spending time around Alessandro Rossi, I don't think much of it. Actually, that's not quite true. It's not a terrible couple, I don't think--despite his long tenure in Kainai, he's not particularly close to getting his own homestead. The pairing isn't terrible and so I sit back to see what happens.

And oh boy, does stuff start to happen. If you're wondering, "hey, Loch, didn't you miss some pictures of socializing or crush hearts or something?" that's a good question and no, I didn't. I have no idea how this progressed this quickly. I'm not shaming anybody, I'm just flummoxed.

Hong Tao isn't Miss Gallagher's only success. She's been doing quite well, teaching Kainai's children and has made close friends with many of them. She spends her days in the schoolhouse (or would if I hadn't realized I wanted to try out an actual schoolhouse after already making the building a community lot--hindsight, etc.).

Her days are much the same as each other: the school day starts and in come the kids. They go over reading, arithmetic, penmanship, etc. And then the next day is more of the same. Éireann loves her kids and she's proud of her work. But sometimes the days start to feel a bit...repetitive.

The Sims 2 Inspired UI for The Sims 4

After making my own UI override, I've been itching to look back in time and try to recreate The Sims 2 UI in TS4, and here it is!

I tried to capture the look & feel as best as possible, so I hope you can enjoy this mod and reminisce a bit c:

General Info

PC: 1.105.345.1020 / Mac: 1.105.345.1220 Older game versions will not work with this mod.

UI overhaul in the style of The Sims 2's UI.

Over 500+ additional icons recolored for CAS & BuildBuy!

Sims 2 style cursor recolors.

Most text are kept in their original color, though they might get changed/updated down the line.

To install:

// Main mod

Download & extract the zip file within your Mods folder.

Install the latest UI Cheats Extension mod and make sure it loads after the Sims 2 UI mod. Current version needed: v1.40

// Extras

Loading screen: download only one loading screen file. Available in: 4:3 - 16:9 - 16:10 aspect ratio.

Opening screen: file to replace the intro TS4 screen. Choose the file that pertains to your game language.

TS2 Cursor: recolored TS4 cursor to match with TS2's cursor. Unfortunately, some cursors are missing their recolors (rotate cam & grab+arrows in CAS).
