Of all the unknowns in the story, the one that really plagues me is Peeta's eyebrow situation. Do they grow back? Are the follicles permanently damaged?

Why couldn't Suzanne include a line confirming it. Just one little tidbit. Something like

"Peeta and I grow back together (and so do his eyebrows)."

or

"The dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. The boy with blond curls and gray eyes and eyebrows that look just like his father's do right now, currently, because they grew back,"

or

"Peeta says it will be okay. We have each other. And the book. And fully grown eyebrows."

Instead I will be intermittently assaulted by intrusive thoughts/images of an eyebrowless Peeta for the rest of my life. I hope Suzanne knows what she's done

500 words of Leander (D1M 73)

dreamed about Leander from Alec's year right before my alarm and scrawled it down when i got up idk what my brain was on but HERE

He peels off his Reaping suit and hands it over without a word.

“I love District 1,” one of them chirps. “So tractable. Do you remember that girl last year, I think Nine? Bit poor Lavella when she tried to take that ratty dress. Eight stitches!”

The chatter starts immediately, and Leander remembers to set his expression to ‘polite interest’ before zoning out. His prep team have soft hands and delicate fingers, at least, as they lift his limbs and circle like twinkly vultures — though Leander doesn’t even want to know the penalty for snapping one of their birdlike wrists if they decided they wanted to hurt him.

They don’t. They twitter and praise his clear skin and lovely long lashes, “but there’s darkness too, do you see it,” says one of them, “the eyes, that bone structure”; “oh yes, intensity, we should play up the brows —” and Leander does his best not to listen.

And then the bath, ludicrously oversized, so that Leander can sit in the middle and his whole prep team can fit around the sides. Even in One, his early memories a haze like the sunset through gauzy curtain windows, Leander never had a bathtub, too much waste, and Academy showers were hasty scrub-downs with one eye watching every doorway.

He sinks into the heated water and knots in muscles he didn’t know he had unwind. His team each pick a limb or expanse of skin and scrub him down with cheerful precision. It’s the most physical contact without the intent to cause him pain since — well. Since he can remember. Leander clenches his eyes shut and forces his breaths out through his nose.

“Lean back, ducky, time to wash your hair,” they tell him, and then there’s a wash of warm water and cinnamon-scented soap and brisk-yet-gentle fingers working their way across his scalp and he can’t help it, it’s not his fault. Leander splashes water across his cheeks and no one notices.

Between the bath and the heated wrap to open up his pores before the full-body wax and the waxing itself (little bursts of pain at regular intervals, almost as relaxing as the bath) Leander doesn’t remember falling asleep. Only that at some point the team prod him awake, blinking in confusion, to wait for his stylist with a robe and a hair ruffle.

“Well, this one is just darling,” Leander hears before the doors hiss closed.

“That was humiliating,” his district partner mutters as they stand by their chariot that evening, waiting for their handlers. “I never want to do that again.”

Leander’s brain snags unpleasantly on the word never, always a dangerous concept on this side of the Arena, but she’s glancing at him, eyes dark with mutiny, that familiar stab of they’re not looking, quick, we only have a second, and in the shadow of the chariot they’re not here as adversaries or show ponies, they’re two kids who spent the day getting pawed at by grown adults in silence, just like they were trained to do, with five seconds to complain.

He thinks of the relaxing bath and the patient hair washing and falling asleep on the table and his face flames with shame. “Same,” Leander spits. “Fucking creeps.”

She grins at him, sharp with shared camaraderie, and a knife twists in his chest.

So I know in the victor!Selene au, Petra reacted to Selene's win with severe depression. If Selene had instead experienced the all mace year and likely died horribly, would Petra have felt the same?

Petra is not a NICE person ok, like, that has never been her primary personality trait so let's just get that out of the way

Selene has the self-awareness in Petra's year to be like WOW that was awful, i am so glad i am alive and able-bodied and not in that horror-show and that's all she needs to get over it, holy damn

Petra.......... I'm not so sure. on the one hand, maces, damn, not her specialty whatsoever. on the other ........ I feel like her deep-down secret reaction would be like ... anger? like maybe if they'd picked her instead of Selene then she would have won and Selene would be alive! you don't know! or maybe she'd be just as dead -- which doesn't depress her, it just makes her angry all over again. I think she'd spend countless hours thinking up ways she could have survived that and being furious that they picked Selene because now Selene is dead and Petra's stuck here and it's a huge waste for everyone

but. you know. not trying to kill herself for like a year? so there's that?

luckily (?) Selene only dies in canon and I refuse to kill her anywhere else so they don't actually have to go through that

I'm not sure if you know Doctor Who but I'm thinking about companions and whether they would be in the program (or not).

One who I definitely think would be, she's textbook program material, they would look at her and want to shape her, is Ace. She's got authority issues, but I think if she was in the program from a young age it would be twisted in a certain way, I feel that's something they would do. She's got a lot of fire and anger and violence, and home issues too. At 13 she burnt down an abandoned house and definitely was charged - she had a probation officer. Feel like that could be twisted instead, or it's a "yeah you get two choices, pass your centre residential exams, or juvi," since Panem has a much stricter and severe police and laws and punishments and stuff. If she did become a Victor I feel like she'd be amenable to Lyme's politics and definitely no treason going on here guys.

Someone who I think would enjoy the early years stuff but definitely not go into residential is Donna. She definitely seems someone who would enjoy all the running and games and stuff like that as a kid, but she wouldn't stay long. Her Grandad, Wilf, would Definitely be against it. He's very anti war and pacifist, he would hate that stuff.

Someone else who I think could go all the way is Amy. I feel like it would work, you've got a seven year old kid, lonely and displaced after moving a long way (would have to be within the district for this au obvs), with if you take it to be the young Amy from the pre-pandorica and reset timeline, no parents and a possibly neglected aunt, firey, dubbed the weird kid and she's very prepared to bite multiple psychiatrists for telling her that her "imaginary friend" isn't real. As she gets older she very much is aware of her appearance and how to use it to get what she wants, in a way that I think in this au the program would definitely have cultivated, she's gonna have good scores in acting.

I've watched Nine, Ten, one season of Eleven, and no Classic Who, so I will take your word for this or if anyone else has anything to add

from what I've heard about Ace that makes total sense though!

I know you’ve touched on body mods in D2 a bit before, but I was wondering if you’re victors were to get tattoos (besides the wrist one they all have) what some would be?

I ask because I just saw someone with negative space tattoos in a classic “adult abstract colouring book” style. They then explained that they got them so their family and friends could colour them in with markers while hanging out and that is ABSOLUTELY a Devon thing to do.

i am the worst person to ask about this bc i dithered on tattoos for my entire life and then BOOM BOOM BOOM got 4 in the space of 6 months so the thought of tattoos for other people is too much lol

honestly though other than devon's dead kid tattoos i don't know that they have any, at least not in canon. bodies are tools, you know?

in a modern AU though i LOVE that adult colouring book one for devon, and misha probably would have several spontaneous ones that she refuses to be embarrassed about. claudius most likely something with music? lyme is wayyy too disconnected from her body to want one. callista, obviously, a cat, maybe her first octavius? emory would have to be convinced it's not silly but if she did she'd get something botanical, i'm just not sure what
