me: zoro does not care for luffy more than luffy cares for him and to say so is a reduction of their relationship as first mate and captain, and as friends. ppl do not like to suggest that luffy loves zoro more than anyone else (and understandably) but it does not change the fact that luffy loves zoro differently (not more. but differently). zoro IS the face he looks to and says hello to first. zoro IS the person he “yeets” to him the most. zoro IS the only crew member he took fate by the throat for and sought out purposefully rather than letting fate do her work (stumbling upon his nakama). zoro IS the person he blushes at the sight of. zoro IS the person who understands him at an almost innate level, and who in turn luffy trusts to know & stand by him. opla was not out of character for either of them, and “you could never fail me” / “I need you” ARE things that are true to animanga luffy’s thoughts and shown through his actions rather than said out loud

if there’s one thing to say about the amazon lilly arc in one piece, it’s that luffy is an UNWAVERINGLY good person through and through. he’s left alone to his own devices in the middle of no where, no accountability necessary….and the whole island distrusted men (esp boa n her sisters because of their past) but the thing is? men had rarely (if ever) given them a reason not to. but when the women who protected him were turned to stone, he protected them. he carried them carefully to safety, checked them for cracks and chips, unlocked his haki so their statues wouldn’t be shattered. even in battle when the sisters were trying to kill him, he laid across the mark on her back bc they mentioned in passing that they would rather die than let someone see it. and when given the choice between returning the warriors to life and seeing his friends, he choice was easy. his explanation for punching a celestial dragon was that he’d hurt his friend. even after finding out ace was set to be executed, he asked boa how she was feeling before asking his favor. people are so so important to luffy, no matter how short of a time he’s known them
