The definition of my t-boy swag and personal aesthetic is that clip from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Danny DeVito throws a trash can into a bar, makes the unhinged noise of a mischievous European gnome, loudly declares that he’s The Trash Man, and proceeds to talk about how he throws trash all over the place and eats garbage, all whilst dressed like he literally just heard about clothes 2 minutes ago

‘The Oxford English Dictionary Defines Resilience As’ by Loop Laurens.
My local queer group, in collaboration with the local library, created an LGBTQ+ zine to hand out at Pride, themed around resilience. As a psychologist, resilience is a kind of humorous concept to me, because it’s one of those things everyone agrees is a good thing and people should have more of it, but no one can agree on what exactly it is or how to measure it. So when I was thinking about what I wanted to create for the zine, I starting by looking up ‘resilience’ in the dictionary, and this is what I ended up making.
I wanted to make something that balanced my trademark lighthearted humour writing with something personal and honest about my trans experience, and, somehow, I think I managed it.
Transcript below the cut.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines resilience as
the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity
As a trans man, I’d quite like to be less resilient.
No matter how many times I:
bind my chest
cut my hair
state my pronouns
I always spring back into shape again.
The Oxford English Dictionary also defines resilience as
the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness
(I think that’s the one I was supposed to write about)

Sometimes you should strive to write good, other times you have to embrace your pretentious purple prose bitch and have the time of your life doing it, because 'kaleidoscopic' is faaar too fun of a word to not use

I’ve always kind of theorised that this is one of the consequence of the weird elitism that sadly floats around certain literature/writing spaces and environments like schools. I think there’s a decent amount of people who don’t realise that pretty much all forms of reading can be beneficial to your prose in some way or another, be that your classics, a smutty romance ebook, or fanfiction.
I can vividly remember one of my English teachers telling my class that fanfiction didn’t count as reading, which — though I sympathise with his assumed goal of getting the class to read something that one could actually do a book report on and that had gone through a bit more quality control — I’ve always found a really harmful mentality to have. If you want kids to read, and by proxy turn into adults who love reading, you shouldn’t gatekeep what does and doesn’t count as reading, lest you end up with people who view reading as this inherently academic and skilful thing, and not the very fun activity it’s supposed to be. You do not have to read Hemingway or Fitzgerald or any books you don’t personally enjoy for xyz reasons to be a good writer; you just have to read something frequently, preferably another thing related to what you want to write, and be willing to get out of your comfort zone every once in a while reading-wise.
If you somehow don’t manage to find anything that captures your fancy within the vast playground of literature, then you should probably analyse why you want to be a writer, and realise that just because something is accessible physically and you have the fundamentals down, doesn’t mean there’s not a whole lot of effort, practice, and time that needs to go into it to become truly good at it.
every day twitter novelists find a new way to discuss ‘is it possible to write books if you seem to have absolutely zero interest in reading?’ and every day the answer continues to be ‘yes, but not well’

Editing your story isn't about fixing mistakes.
We often think of the editing process as fixing what’s wrong with our stories. But that’s not what revision is about.
Yes, we cut and edit and proof, but the purpose of all that work isn’t just to get rid of what’s failing. It’s to bring out what’s working — finding those moments of fire, where your story leaps from the page, and spreading that fire across the rest of your story.
The end goal of revision isn’t fixing. It’s animating. Invigorating. Igniting.
It’s about taking a spark, and making a wildfire.

Got bored, and translated one of the most popular Danish versions of the folk song "The Two Sisters" into English, trying to keep the rhythm and rhyming scheme and trying to make it sound good without losing the general meaning
Also here's a link to one of the many covers of this specific version on spotify, if you want to give it a listen (:
There lives a farmer on quiet isle Who fathered two pretty girls One was bright and milky white The other was black as earth And the man they both loved most in life Wanted the youngest as his wife — No one shall forget my fate when they hear the harp sing its song — The youngest hair flowed in the wind The oldest was biding her time: “Let us to the ocean go,” “To wash off the dirt and grime,” The youngest stood freely on stones so wide And with a single push fell towards the tide — No one shall forget my fate when they hear the harp sing its song — There were two fiddlers by the shore Though they quickly stopped their stroll When they saw the sisters corpse Washed up and still on shoal From her bones and golden hair They made a harp just as fair — No one shall forget my fate when they hear the harp sing its song — The harp is brought into the farm And everyone knows its song “My sister took my life so young But never shall she take my man Tonight she’ll have her wedding day But tomorrow the flames will burn her away — No one shall forget my fate when they hear the harp sing its song —”
