Nålbinding Bottle Cozy
I finished a thing!
Yarn:
Lettlopi, colourways 1705 (lambagras) and 0005 (hærusvartur) and
Catania leftovers (probably 105, 208, 398) and Catania Color (233).
The body is nålbinding, no pattern.
The flowers are crochet, following patterns from RaffaMusaDesigns (they're super easy, just 2 rounds basically!).
The drawstrings I made with a lucet.
So like, a cross crafts project! ^_^
I love it and most importantly, kid 1 for whom this was made, loves it too ^_^

I carded more of the felty top into fluffy clouds (wondering if that would actually work better with wool combs and then started researching and such and i really wanna try wool combs now and i want to find a way how to make some. Wood, long nails, sanding paper, glue... the ingredients are pretty easy to get, but how to properly combine them with next to no skill and experience in wood working?).
Anyway, I won't get to spin these up today, but maybe during the next few days..

Here's a layer with yarn from all three samples (with and without flash):
From center outward they're called
First Flowers
Ralph's Backyard
Shahlam
All from TagewerkDesign over on etsy.
I think I'll finish that tail of Shahlam that's left (though I do have a bit more fluff from it) and then call that turtle finished.
More spinning while in the car on a family trip with my parents and kid 1:
I'm making thick-ish yarn out of several samples i got with fluff orders, in order to make more triangle decoration for the Maker Faire

Another layer, another sample:
And... I'm actually in love with this? it looks like a flower meadow!
I may have to get more, so the sample did its job very well xD
It's name is fittingly "Ralph's Backyard", from the shop "tagewerkdesign" on etsy.

On Sunday, traveling on the train from south Germany back to the north, I won a game of yarn chicken with the "Study Dragon Tail's Shawl" which I had started in January 2023:
Today, while waiting at the rheumatologist's, I wove in the ends:
And now it just needs a little soak and blocking and it's completely finished! ^_^
I lost the yarn banderole, but it's some merino lace yarn. The hook was a 4 mm hook. It's all just blo hdc and I'm super happy with the resulting squishy texture 💕💕💕

nobody:
absolutely no one: ...
me:
me: send nubes
(or: How I found the bag with the Malabrigo Nube fluff again and took it with me to spin while waiting with kid 1 at the pediatrician and playing "Find a word from [category] going through the alphabet" with her.)

So Maker Faire is coming up, right?
And the spinning group is gonna be there.
And we need decorations.
And a suggestion was to craft triangles and make a cute bunting/garland thingy.
So i took to the grab bag of fiber i had bought for the kids to play with and got this really felted combed top out of it and seperated colours and carded it and then spun some thicc singles on my Nano2:
... and then plied these:
All in one evening! Go me! xD
I'm not a big pink fan, but i love this 💕💕💕
Not sure if that's enough to oslo stitch a triangle, but I can always make some more.
(I can make yarn! and then make something from it! It's so amazing, that whole process! Damn! *happy swearing in awe of humanity's long history of fiber doings and makings*)
Anyway, maybe (maybe!) I can eventually make enough yarn to needlebind, crochet and knit a small triangle (base with 12-13 cm).
Maybe not.
I AM having ideas. Spring is putting ideas in my head (and itches in my eyes and nose)..
Not sure if my energy will be able to keep up, so I'll be happy with any idea actually coming to life ^_^
Going by the old Jim Morrisson Motto of "Take it easy, baby, take it as it comes."

Progress has been made!
Now i'm pondering whether to change things up a little:
The book cozy for my lotr book is growing ^_^
The base is crocheted cotton yarn from my stash, the rest is gonna be nålbinding in Finnish 2+2 F2 with Lettlopi which i bought second hand.
Going from round-based crochet into spiralbased nålbinding was not easy, and i'm not sure i found the best possible solution for it. I might go back later and do a few more securing stitches with a sewing needle..
Not sure how long my ambition holds, but i might end up embroidering something on it later? Maybe I'll dust off old my sindarin knowledge... or.. huh... dwarfen runes would be easier to embroider than tengwar actually... we'll see, we'll see.
First i gotta do enough rounds to hold the 1.3 kg tomb xD
And the flap. There's gonna be a flap for sure. Triangle, is what i'm thinking atm.
I'm excited! ^_^

Re: the crafting asks, 1, 3, and 9? 😄
Hiiiii!!
Thank you for asking!! ^_^
1. do you knit, crochet, macramé, sew, etc?
So, I mainly crochet and spin, knit (a little), have cross stitched (might again ((there‘s one project in the back of my mind for friends that I shall get into at some point)) ), darn and mend (a little), and lately the nålbinding bug has got me so that‘s what‘s mostly on the front of my mind.
3. when did you begin crafting?
When I was a kid, my one grandma always had these coloured cross stitch cardboards to fill with stitchcrosses ready at hand, and i did those. Around 2011(-ish?) I got back into cross stitch, and even made a bunch of patterns for myself to stitch.
I learned how to make friendship bracelets in a summer camp as a mid-90s teenager and this had its own intense spiral back in the days xD
As a twenty-something my other grandma taught me knitting basics.
But it wasn‘t until summer 2013 that things got more intense again and I taught myself how to crochet when i was pregananant with Kid 1.
Spinning joined the club around 2021, I think?
And 2024, after ca. 5 years of occasionally trying with a lot of question marks, nålbinding finally began to make sense.
9. what are you working on right now?
Okay, so.
There are WIPs in my closet i haven‘t touched in years. We‘re not talking about them rn, okay?! Here are the projects that I have worked on here and there in the last 2 months:
the baby blanket for my nephew (who will turn 3 this year 🤣🙈) - C2C crochet (which proves once more that the more I have to count, the lower is the probability of finishing a project.. o_O)
* the dragon‘s tail scarf I started last January as a "keep my hands busy during lectures/VCs" - crochet
the Harlekin Shawl i started 2 years ago - crochet
a bottle cozy for Kid 1 - nålbinding, Korgen stitch
this cowl/neck and shoulder warmer in Finnish 2+3 F2
What I desperately WANT to start on is a nålbinding book cozy for the Lord of the Rings hardcover book i recently splurged on!
Yeah, so that's it so far ^_^
Thank you for making me ramble a little and letting me share 😁💕

I also did some spinning!
This green batt had been lying around since.. idk 1 or 2 years, but I splurged on a second cross spindle and NEEDED to spin something and this was the first thing the fell into my hands!
With this I also figured out a way to chainply on the fly - and it made me finish these 4 wonderful turtles in a record time (mappsie record time, but still xD)
The batt's fiber content is:
60% Merino
20% Shetland
20% Tencel
Then I started with these pretties I bought secondhand from Kleinanzeigen.de
200g total!
1 turtle done.
Again with chainply-on-the-fly because it's working well for me, my hands and wrist, and brain.
I've been also chipping away on the black merino with red silk which took forever, but I finished spinning all its fluff into a single which is now waiting to be plied.
Also, I spun more of this stuff which I'm pretty sure there's still some fluff left. Ah well, langsam nährt sich das Eichhörnchen, as the German saying goes.
Also also I've plied another turtle full of white alpaca and Paz coloured merino/silk mix.
And then!
Well then my spinning streak was interrupted by some
✨ nålbinding ✨
It FINALLY clicked for me, after 5 years of on/off trying! I'll show that in the next post (whenever I'll get to make it lol)

Long time no post, but i did make some things.
E.g. this little Frøgge Pilløw which has now a new home with @lunetta-suzie-jewel ^_^
Yarn: I don't know where the banderole went 🙈
Tools: 3.5 mm knitting needles for main body, 3 mm hook for legs and arms
Pattern: 100% winged. Knitted the body, crocheted legs and arms. It was a great game of yarn chicken and I WON xD
Finished some time in December 2023, but my brain noped out of sending it out in time for Christmas. Sooooo, it was a Late New Year's gift, instead of Christmas gift BUT it got finished and it did arrive, so that's all what counts ^_^

It's not that I haven't done any spinning lately, but it's been going very slowly.
Yesterday's spinning group meeting got me some tangible plying progress on my Paz yarn, though ^_^
Also it was nice talking to these lovely yarn and fiber enthusiasts again 💕💕💕 I always learn something new ^_^
