im a lion turtle/energy bending defender till the day i die babey i know it was poorly set up but if aang's victory over ozai had cost one of the main tenets of air nomad culture (re: pacifism) then in a lot of ways ozai would have won in spirit if not in actuality which in itself is a tragic and upsetting and compelling way to end the show but the narrative is just kinder than that to its 12y/o protagonist. the narrative contrives a reason for aang to not have to compromise his values to win as the last airbender and i'm okay with that.

#its not even contrived its Symbolic #the Symbolism of it is absolutely beautiful and my thing about Avatar #it represents sticking to your beliefs in a better nonviolent world #and aang believed in it when no one else would or could bc no one else had lived in a peaceful world except him #100 yrs before #none of them had witnessed a peaceful world in their lifetimes and were so tangled in grief guilt and violence #it required someone like Aang whose belief in unyielding peace #could trump the demand of blood all their personal pain called fall #called for* #Aang is incredibly inspiring to me #i know the 'its okay to punch nazis' crowd wont see this one as a win #but it is - because the lion turtles essentially were bent to Aang's will themselves #they witnessed his unadulterated goodness and granted him a way forward #because he never gave up #what its saying is: punching Nazis can happen in diff ways #sometimes you blow them up #sometimes you hit them right back #and sometimes hurting them the most means ripping out their very ability to be what they are while retaining your own peace of mind #diff people are required to do diff jobs at diff times #and if the right person isnt there you will fail #Aang was absolutely the right person to end a war that lasted 100 years and outlasted the lifetimes of those that started it #and was passed onto another two generations who never knew life before it started #you gotta punch nazis always but diff ppl will punch them in diff ways

the way that the air nomad's lifestyle was so deeply communal and aang is the only one left. the way that he is so fundamentally alienated from the world to the extent that he is literally referred to as a living relic. the way that pragmatism and everyone around him are telling him that the only way to save the world is to betray his nearly extinct culture. the way that he befriends katara so quickly and deeply. the way he goes on to befriend everyone he meets and improve their lives by his very presence. the way he never fully gives up on his identity as the last airbender, even when his identity as the avatar threatens it. the way he saves the world through asserting his cultural values.

Chatted to me and everyone. George Lucas was quiet and lost in Star Wars world.
