Tumblr media
The next morning you tried your best to back out of the hunt but your family wouldn’t let you.
They swore you were just being paranoid and as long as you and Beomgyu were careful nothing should go wrong. You wished you could believe them.
You just had to satisfy yourself with the thought that even if you did happen to run into Kai for any reason, you could just avoid him to not allow for further issues. It should be easy. Right?
The hunt is relatively uneventful with you and Beomgyu making some successful catches along your usual route. By the afternoon you had all but forgotten why you were worried to come hunting in the first place. Maybe your family was right.
A sudden voice pierces the quiet. Its one you would recognize anywhere. “Just stay away from me,” Kai pleads, sounding scared and desperate.
You don’t give yourself the time to think or warn Beomgyu before you are off, running as fast as you can in the direction of his voice. All that’s flooding your mind is that Kai is in danger somehow and you need to get to him. You need to help him.
Distantly you register Beomgyu calling after you wondering what happened but you don’t care. Making it to the car you get in rounding the turns towards the sound of Kai’s voice. The closer you get the more you hear the thoughts of the disgusting and clearly drunk men who wont leave him alone. You hit the steering wheel in frustration willing the car to go faster.
You pull in to the empty and poorly lit parking lot, tires screeching. You flash your lights at the men, bringing your car dangerously close to where they stood. They stumble back pathetically but make no moves to get away from Kai.
Growling in anger you make your way out of the car. You register Kai staring at you in confusion and awe and allow yourself to check that he is unharmed. To your relief he is but he is also definitely rattled by what has happened. This renews your anger and you turn to the men utilizing the best of your vampire abilities to intimidate them.
Clearly startled by your sudden appearance and hostility they finally begin to back off stumbling back to the safety of the bar. Once you were satisfied they were gone for good you turn back to Kai worried for his safety.
“Are you alright? Did they do anything to you? Why were you here all alone? Do you need anything?” you ramble off unable to stop the flood of questions and concern. You don’t really give him a chance to answer, grabbing his arm and ushering him to the safety of your car, still murmuring questions and cursing out the men under your breath. He easily stumbles along with you, slipping into the passenger seat without complaint.
You get back in the car and ask him if there’s anywhere he needs you to take him to. He finally speaks after minutes of silence and as always he hits you with the most unpredictable response.
“Why are your hands so … cold?” he gets out, turning his puzzled gaze to your face. You immediately tense, uneasy with the line of unexpected questioning and brush him off by asking again if he’s alright. As though asking one question gave him back his courage to speak, Kai was now the one pelting you with questions you found difficult to answer.
“How did you find me? How did you know i was in danger? What did you say to those men to make them run like that?” he pushes, getting more and more agitated with each question you left unanswered.
Finally, you hear Beomgyus thoughts registering in your mind, indicating that he’s close by enough to hear you and to piece together what happened. Hoping Beomgyu gets the hint you finally answer Kai.
“I was dropping Beomgyu off at a store nearby and I saw what was happening from my car. I rushed over as soon as I could,” you attempt to placate him with your answer.
He gives you a look that lets you know he doesn’t 100% believe you but you’ll take what you can get. You settle into the drivers seat making your way over to the only nearby store hoping Beomgyu heard and is waiting for you. You assume this would be the end of his questioning but as always Kai manages to shock you.
“Why?” he asks, voice cracking a bit on his emotions. You brake a little harshly, stunned at his response.
“Why?” you begin, with a humorless laugh, “Kai, you were clearly in trouble. I wasn’t going to leave you to get attacked or worse. I know I can be standoffish and rude but i’m not that much of a monster,” you finish, a little upset at any of the implications of his question.
“Thats not what i meant…” he mumbles back, avoiding eye contact. You so desperately want to push the subject, find out what he really means but he closes off and you decide to respect his boundaries. Soon, you are pulling in to the local hardware store close to the parking lot Kai was in. Luckily for you Beomgyu was standing right out front, acting confused as to why he was left behind. You had to applaud him for his dedication to the role, you owed him big time.
Kai seemed to perk up at the sight of Beomgyu, seeming a lot calmer now that your reasoning had been proven true. As Beomgyu got in the car you quickly explained what happened to which Kai became a little flustered by and began insisting he was okay.
Beomgyu, genuinely concerned for him, offered apologies for what had happened and the option to talk to him about it if Kai ever felt he wanted to. You smiled at Beomgyu through the rear view mirror, filled with joy at how he treated Kai. It made you happy to see your family care for him given the events of the last few weeks.
“So, did you want us to drop you off anywhere? We could just take you home also, whatever works best for you,” you asked Kai, lowkey not wanting to be apart from him right now but knowing he was likely exhausted from what he experienced.
“Um… I was here with some friends before I wandered off to the bookstore. They were going to eat at the diner, I guess you could leave me there,” he responded, giving you a small smile. You nodded, changing lanes to head to the local diner.
You pull into the parking lot, turning to say bye to Kai and offer similar reassurances to what Beomgyu had told him when he cuts you off. “Sorry,” he starts, looking up from his phone, “It looks like they left already,” he finishes, shrugging sheepishly and waving his phone around to convey that they had just messaged him. Some friends.
“You should still eat, it’s been a long day for you. We can wait for you here or pick up something for you on the way to your house,” you offer, unsure of what to do in this situation. Yeonjun and Soobin would be screaming at you right about now.
“Actually… do you think, I mean, would you be able to maybe have dinner with me? If that’s possible I don’t know how busy you guys are I don’t want to keep you waiting,” he hesitantly asks, avoiding eye contact.
Your immediate reaction is a resounding yes (yes a million times yes), but you hesitate, glancing briefly over to Beomgyu. You cant just leave him behind you guys did come to hunt together. You definitely can’t have Beomgyu eat with you guys either he would expose your (totally not real) feelings so fast.
Beomgyu, ever the opportunist, picks up on your hesitation and makes the decision for you. “Well, I was still uh…shopping, I could take the car and go finish that up while you guys eat and come back to pick you up,” he offers, stumbling to cover up hunting with the shopping lie you had forwarded earlier. You send him a grateful smile, easily agreeing and reassuring Kai that it would be no problem. You hoped.
You made your way into the restaurant with Kai, waving bye to Beomgyu who shot you a wink and very loudly thought “you’re welcome !! just go for it and be yourself !!!” You shook your head, laughing slightly and continued following Kai inside.
The diner was basically empty save for a few families and teenagers. The waitress guided you guys to a booth near the back and you pushed Kai to order already, insisting that the sooner he eats the better he will feel. He smiles at you again before quickly placing his order. You willed yourself not to get giddy at the sight of his smile. You were failing miserably.
“So, you saved my life, again. Thank you by the way. I hope you know this just confirms my superhero theory,” Kai begins talking as soon as the waitress leaves. You let out a loud laugh, startled but amused by his sudden claims.
“Still definitely not a superhero,” you answer shyly. Your family would be making sooo much fun of you right now.
“If you insist, but you are special, in your own way,” he continues, kind smile still on his face but a hint of red making it’s way to the tips of his ears. How cute.
You don’t know if it’s the compliments, or his sincerity, or just the shock of the last hour but you find yourself overwhelmed with wanting to tell him about yourself. To tell him the truth. You give him as close to it as you can.
Sending a mental apology to your family you hesitantly begin, “Well, not a superhero but um you aren’t entirely wrong about being ‘special’ in a way.” You look at him nervously trying to gauge his response to that. He meets your gaze head on, offering a reassuring nod and indicating you elaborate.
Sighing deeply you continue, “Okay, don’t laugh but I can I mean I do have an ability that’s not totally normal. I can read minds.” You grip the table tightly, ready to act like you’re joking if he takes this badly.
“Oh no. You could read my mind this whole time ? Oh my god i’m so sorry,” he exclaims, giving you an incredibly embarrassed look. You stare in shock.
“I tell you that I can read minds, and your first reaction is to apologize for your thoughts. You never fail to amaze me,” you respond, once again left stunned by Kai.
“Don’t worry though. Funny enough, you actually happen to be the one exception to my power,” you quickly reassure, noting the rabbit hole he was going down.
“Wait so is there something wrong with my thoughts? Or with your power somehow? You can hear everyone else?” he immediately questions, unfazed by the news of your mind reading abilities but concerned on their logistics. He was going to be the death of you… well second death.
As much as you wish you could tell him, you hold off on mentioning anything that could imply the whole you being a vampire thing. Lucky for you he seems very content with the information you gave about mind reading. You find he is way more open and excited as he talks to you after the reveal. He trusts you again.
His food arrives and he digs in starting to look better and better as he eats. You continue to watch him fondly engaging in small talk. You even indulge him when he starts asking you what random people in the diner are thinking of. It’s worth it to see his expressive reactions to everyone’s thoughts. The time goes by too quickly and soon he is finished with his meal and insisting you call Beomgyu as he feels bad to keep him waiting so long.
You smile fondly at the sentiment but ultimately agree and send Beomgyu a text to let him know you were ready to go. Heading out to the car you walk side by side, occasionally bumping hands and then shying away from each others touch. You cant believe this is what you’ve been reduced to a blushing, giggly, love sick fool.
Beomgyu has a shit eating grin on his face as he gets out of the car to let you drive. You do a great job at pretending you can’t see it. As you all get in the car you realize you forgot to tell Kai to keep what you said a secret from everyone, something you are painfully aware of as he begins to speak.
“So Beomgyu, I figure you don’t have mind reading abilities also… unless you do? I don’t really know how that works honestly but um what’s your power then?” he finishes, a little flustered but eager to hear the answer. You roughly brake the car yet again turning wide eyes to Kai and then to Beomgyus shocked face.
“YOU TOLD HIM?! THAT IS SO NOT WHAT I MEANT BY GO FOR IT !!” Beomgyu exclaims, thoughts going a million miles an hour. You hiss out at him to shut up and rush to explain yourself.
“Yes! I told Kai how I can mind read. How that’s the major secret i’ve been hiding. Guess I forgot to mention that i’m the only one in my family with a power,” you finish, gritting your teeth and hoping Beomgyu gets the hint again. His mouth flounders around as he fails to find a reasonable response and just settles for a very weak “oh okay, yeah…” Way to be convincing.
Kai, ever observant, sends a suspicious glance over to both you and Beomgyu but doesn’t push the matter, simply nodding in response. The rest of the ride back to Kai’s house is a little tense with stilted attempts at small talk being made by each of you. You cant help but feel a little bit of relief to finally pull into his driveway.
“Well, thanks again guys really. I don’t know what I would’ve done if you hadn’t shown up. Um, also thank you for trusting me it means a lot.” Kai shyly addresses you and Beomgyu to which you rush to offer reassurances and wishes for him to have a good night.
“Also, I won’t tell anyone I swear so uh don’t worry about that! It’s all good! We’re good!,” he rushes out mainly to you, prompting the biggest smile to take over your face. Damn your feelings. Damn his cuteness. Beomgyu audibly coos causing Kai to blush harder as he bids a final farewell to the two of you and makes his way to his house.
You wave back when you suddenly notice that Kai is holding something in one of his hands. In the mess that was this evening you hadn’t noticed that he was carrying something with him. You figure it must be the book he ended up risking his life to go buy earlier.
Curious to see what he was so determined to get you peek at the cover sticking out over his arm. If it was possible your blood would’ve ran cold. Staring back at you in bold letters was the title “Myths and Folklore of the Forks Region.” Accompanying the incriminating titles was drawings of various “mythological” creatures.
Front and center was a stereotypical depiction of a vampire.
Shit.

You knew it wouldn’t be as easy as letting Kai go to the local doctor by himself.
“Well, you should go too. You’re probably hurt as well,” Kai called to you amidst the rush of people pulling him to the ambulance. A murmur of agreements rang through the crowd although no one else was brave enough to outright tell you or motion you towards the ambulance.
“I’m fine really. I got pretty lucky. I’ll go just to be sure but my siblings can take me, no need for the ambulance,” you flippantly waved him off already beginning to walk towards your waiting (and angry) siblings before he could try and insist you get in the ambulance again.
You needed to be far, far away from him right now.
Approaching the cars you noted how none of your siblings decided to comment just yet, but their thoughts were doing more than enough to let you know what a major fuck up you just allowed to happen. Dejected you walk towards one of the cars only to be stopped by Yeonjun, indicating that he would drive you. Alone. Everyone else was going to take the second
car.
Of all of your siblings he was the “oldest” or first turned, which meant that for all his teasing and playfulness he was also just as serious and authoritative. He was definitely the wrong person to piss off but from what you could sense he was more disappointed than
anything.
Somehow that hurt worse than his anger.
You briefly glanced back at your other siblings as you got into the car with Yeonjun, receiving a sympathetic smile from Beomgyu. At least someone seemed to be on your side right now. Not that you deserved it.
The car ride to the hospital was tense and awkward. You didn’t dare speak first, not even sure what to say. You wish you could say you truly regretted saving Kai, but then you remember the relief that flooded your body when you realized he was okay and you find you don’t regret anything.
Weirdly enough you also trusted him. You knew deep down he was not going to tell anyone what had truly happened, he would let everyone believe that you were nearby as you claimed. He was curious about you sure. A little confused and upset? Definitely. He wasn’t cruel though.
Tuning back into the drive you went rigid as Yeonjun finally began to speak.
“Look, I know you like this guy and honestly it’s really good to see you interested in someone. I mean it. But, you need to be more careful. This was way too close of a call. I think out of all of us you are probably the most responsible and paranoid about someone discovering our secret, which makes this so surprising. I get why you did it I really do and i won’t scold you more than this when I know you are beating yourself up enough already but please, be smart in how you handle the aftermath,” he finished, tone grim but demeanor less intimidating than before.
If you could cry, you would be sobbing by now. He was right. You did know better but also you couldn’t just let Kai get hit. You simply nodded in response giving a soft thank you as you continued to try and gather your thoughts on this whole situation.
The hospital was just how you remembered it. Cold, boring, practically empty. The only difference was this time there was actually an ambulance bringing someone over. You caught a glimpse of a very embarrassed Kai being wheeled in, likely insisting that he’s fine. Yeonjun gestured for you guys to head in and you followed after him, eyes never leaving Kai for as long as you could see him. You were so gone for him already. Fuck.
The head doctor was actually also a vampire, and an old friend of your family’s clan. He greeted you warmly as you walked in with Yeonjun in tow, but quickly returned to his professional demeanor to check on Kai. Knowing the doctor and having the towns patrons be incredibly intimidated by your family had some perks as you were able to follow Kai to the check up area without being stopped. This probably violated some sort of patient confidentiality rule but no one was going to tell you anything.
You heard a little commotion and turned around to find the rest of your siblings had also come. You were surprised, assuming they would’ve just gone home. “How is he?” questioned Taehyun as soon as he was within human hearing range. You shrugged in response still working through the shock of seeing them here. This left you wondering if they cared about Kai too.
Speaking of, you briefly caught Kai’s eye and were surprised to see him looking at your family in confusion. You quickly diverted your gaze.
The doctor thoroughly checked over Kai and after ensuring there was no concussion, he allowed Kai to be released with the condition of getting “plenty of rest.”
Just as he was standing up Kai suddenly blurted out, “Are you by any chance related to their family?” He motioned towards where you all were standing, and you felt Yeonjun tense immediately.
You could tell the doctor was surprised someone had noticed the slight similarity vampires shared as a means of luring in prey, but he handled the question well insisting that he was an old friend of the family but nothing more. He also diverted back to Kai’s health, motioning him towards the receptionist as he shot you a questioning look.
You walked back to the lobby with your family as you waited for Kai to fill out any necessary paperwork. You don’t know why you were so anxious to see him (a lie, you knew exactly why), but you didn’t feel ready to leave just yet.
While waiting, you questioned the rest of your siblings on why they were here. They confirmed your suspicions that while mainly worried about you, they wanted to know if Kai was okay as well. This made you smile a little bit, a welcome joy in this whirlwind of a day.
“Don’t think we aren’t going to talk about this when we get back home though,” Soobin continued, voice taking on a slightly sterner edge. You nodded having not expected otherwise, but were quickly distracted by Kai exiting the reception area and rapidly approaching you. He had a determined glint to his eyes that left you feeling unsettled.
“Can I speak to you please? Alone,” he requested, eyes briefly flickering over to your siblings when he said alone. Caught off guard you easily followed him towards the corner, where he once again began to interrogate you on what had happened.
You had a choice to make here. You could give in a little to appease his curiosity, but that meant compromising your family even more. There was also the option of doubling down on your earlier gaslighting, something that left guilt gnawing at your stomach already. However, with your family easily within hearing distance and already upset with you, the choice was made no matter what you truly wanted to do.
“I already told you,” you began slowly, “I was right by your car I don’t know how you didn’t see me. It was pure luck I was even able to make it in time to push you away.”
“Yeah right. I know what I saw. You were across the parking lot, there’s no humanly possible way you made it to me in time. Plus you didn’t just push me away, you stopped the car with your hand ! I heard the metal crunch and everything,” he replied, suddenly a lot more agitated after your earlier claims.
“Look, all i want is the truth. I won’t tell anyone I swear but I don’t like feeling like i’m insane when there’s obviously some sort of explanation you could give,” he pleaded in a calmer fashion, confirming your earlier suspicions of his trustworthiness. He wasn’t lying either.
You almost gave in right then and there but the looming presence of your siblings kept you in check. Feeling terrible you gave out a weak laugh and insisted that he probably did have some sort of concussion that maybe the doctor missed because he was not making sense.
His face hardened and he softly said, “And here I thought we were actually on the path to being friends,” before walking out, fed up with your lies and evasions. That was punishment enough for everything you had caused.
Defeated, you walked back to your siblings and followed them to the cars, just wanting to get home. No one said a word the entire ride. What could be said?
Being home wasn’t any better. Yeonjun immediately called for a family meeting and you all flocked to the dining table. Based on their thoughts you noted that they were divided in their stances. Soobin and Yeonjun were a lot more on the fence about Kai. Beomgyu and Taehyun saw this as a major setback but seemed to still be rooting for you and Kai.
“I’m sorry but it’s just so dangerous. He’s a great kid but he’s too observant. At least lie low for a little, avoid him as much as you can,” urged Yeonjun looking into your eyes pleadingly.
“That’ll be hard considering he’s my partner in Biology,” you countered, feeling defensive even if you sort of agreed with what he said.
Beomgyu and Taehyun were offering support via their thoughts but had remained silent, letting the two eldest say their pieces. You knew they wouldn’t really say much anyways with Taehyun having seen how that would’ve played out and warning Beomgyu not to speak either to avoid a big fight.
“Look, I can feel how upsetting this all is for you just like I can feel how happy he makes you, but can we really trust him? It sucks I know, but we don’t even truly know him. What if he figures it out and runs to tell someone. That not only puts us in danger but him as well,” Soobin reasoned gently. He had a point, one you hadn’t considered.
Humans weren’t allowed to know about vampires. If anyone figured out he knew then his life was at risk. The incident with the doctor was already a close call.
Looks like your decision was made for you yet again. “Fine, I’ll ignore him. It’s what’s best. For what it’s worth I’m sorry, I never meant to cause any of this or put us in danger I just thought I found a friend and let that cloud my judgement. It won’t happen again,” you responded, Kai’s earlier words ringing in your ears.
The discussion was left at that and you decided to go up to your room and be alone for a while, ignoring Beomgyu and Taehyuns attempts to talk to you.
The “good” news is that tomorrow would be a sunny day. None of you ever attended class on sunny days claiming illness or some other weak excuse that the school staff were too scared to counter. An unfortunate byproduct of being a vampire meant that the sun not only caused your skin to be reflective (as a means of luring in prey once again), but also was simply uncomfortable to endure for long periods of time.
You didn’t have to worry about how you’d avoid Kai tomorrow since you wouldn’t even be there. Try as you might, you couldn’t ignore your brain screaming at you that he would definitely think you didn’t go just to avoid him. You needed to stop worrying about what he thought in regards to you if you wanted to succeed in ignoring him.
The rest of the night passed uneventfully, and your day off was similar. You mainly let yourself wallow in misery with the limited time you had before you were going to be forced to take on your act of indifference towards Kai. Maybe Taehyun was right, maybe you were having an emo phase.
The following day was cloudy once again, the stormy disposition of Forks failing you. It should be easy enough to ignore Kai either way considering your grade level had a field trip scheduled to the local compost center. How thrilling.
Both Soobin and Taehyun were in the same grade as you, with Yeonjun and Beomgyu being in the year above you. Something Beomgyu thought would be hilarious despite being turned after Soobin and thus technically younger.
You stuck by your siblings the whole day, doing your best to blend in amongst them and not catch Kais attention. Aware of your plan they ensured at least one of them was with you at all times from the classroom to the bus.
They’re pretty successful but of course the one moment you all aren’t on top of the formations Kai takes the chance to sneak next to you. Usually you’d have some sort of warning from hearing someone’s thoughts suddenly get louder but as always, he’s the exception.
“So what after lying to me I don’t even get an apology just the silent treatment?” he begins tone lighter than you’d expect considering all that’s happened.
Startled you whip around to look at him and then frantically look for your siblings. You spot them trying their best to make it to you through the dense crowd of students crammed into the greenhouse. Just your luck.
Deciding it would be a smarter move to at least speak to him than pretend he wasn’t even there you let out a resigned sigh and responded.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t lie to you but i’m sorry that things are turning out this way. Trust me it’s not what i wanted,” you pleaded a little, hoping he’d be able to read between the lines.
Those ever curious eyes stared back at you completely unafraid of what they saw. Anyone else would’ve given up on you, too intimated or scared but right then and there you practically saw Kai make the choice to be kind to you despite your faults yet again.
His eyes softened minutely and he simply nodded saying “If that’s how it had to be then okay. I don’t really expect anything from you just please do your best not to completely shut me out.” The hopeful shine to his eyes had you forgetting all the decisions you had made just days prior.
You gave a small smile in return and thankfully didn’t have to say more as your siblings finally caught up to you. Kai greeted them shyly and walked away, leaving you with their confused expressions.
“What happened to ignoring him?” hissed Soobin, having heard the whole conversation.
“What was I supposed to do just pretend he wasn’t even there. This was better damage control than complete isolation at least he’s not mad,” you countered, gesturing to where Kai was laughing with some other friends and no longer overthinking. At least for now.
“That’s a good point. If he stayed upset or got even angrier from being ignored there’s no guarantee he would’ve really stayed quiet,” reasoned Taehyun in an attempt to support you and placate Soobin.
Soobin ultimately agrees with you both giving out another warning to just be careful and the situation is moved on from.
The rest of the trip is uneventful and you find yourself back at the school for lunch time, experiencing no other runs ins with Kai. You somehow feel both grateful and disappointed.
Your siblings once again waste no time filling in Yeonjun and Beomgyu on what had happened. Such gossips.
You wince a little as Yeonjun immediately becomes upset, not buying into the flimsy reasoning you and Taehyun had pushed earlier. Just as he was about to open his mouth and say something to you, Beomgyu begins to speak.
“I think it’s important to mention that Kai is currently drilling holes into our table with his eyes right now,” he states, tone incredibly amused. You hadn’t noticed considering you were doing your best to break your habit of checking in on Kai.
Sure enough, when you glance over at his table, Kai is staring directly at you gaze serious but contemplative. Seems his momentary pause in overthinking was already over. You somehow find this endearing.
Suddenly he stands, walking over to the fruit and salad bar in the cafeteria, eyes never really leaving your table. It’s almost like he was asking you to go speak with him.
“You better go. Find a way to fix this please we can’t have him taking this much interest in us,” Yeonjun interupts, surprising you by suggesting you speak to Kai although his reasoning makes up for the confusion of the request.
You don’t think twice about getting up and making your way over to Kai. Better to take the chance before Yeonjun changes his mind or someone else pitches in with another idea.
Kai brightens up a little when he sees you approaching him. Seriously how is he so forgiving.
Before he can speak you began talking, “You know you really should stop staring, some people think that’s rude.”
“Ah yes, because you are so concerned with not being rude,” he immediately answers with a small smirk surprising you yet again. You hear your family giggling from across the cafeteria. Traitors.
Attempting to not be phased you continue, “Seriously though, I know we talked earlier but it really is in your best interest to just forget about me.” It sounds weak even to your ears.
“See, you keep saying these things and doing stuff to push me away yet you’re doing just as bad of a job at staying away from me,” he easily replies, smile never leaving his face. He has a point.
You choose to remain quiet, sure that any response you can give right now he will ignore. Not that you can even think of a response to that.
“Some of my friends are going to the beach soon, you should come with us. I want you to be there,” he continues on, not paying any attention to your warnings.
“I can’t swim,” is stupidly the first excuse out of your mouth.
“I can teach you !” is his immediate counter. Great.
“I’m not really a beach person sorry,” you try again hoping he’d get the hint from the double rejection. You really do feel sorry, you’d love to spend more time with him.
He stares at you eyes contemplating but ultimately drops the issue only to bring up something far worse.
“Be real with me. Are you like a superhero or something?” he questions suddenly.
You splutter in response not really sure what to say to that. You settle on a very squeaky “What?!”
“Sorry. I said earlier I didn’t expect anything from you and here I go questioning. It’s just I don’t know, it lines up a little with the heroic way you saved me,” he mumbles, embarrassed at having asked in the first place.
You stare at him in awe. All you’d done since you met him is be rude, cold, and dismissive 90% of the time and here he was calling you a superhero. Little does he know you were the furthest thing from that. He really was something else.
“Um, it’s okay. I’m not by the way. Just clearing that up,” you awkwardly respond, deciding to remove yourself from the conversation. You give a small goodbye and rush back to your table only to be met with teasing from all your siblings.
Even Yeonjun and Soobin weren’t that mad considering just how awkward that whole conversation was. You groan and bury your face into your arms. You were so utterly fucked.
The rest of your classes were slow and boring, giving you plenty of time to agonize over what your life had turned into so quickly. Finally the bell rings signaling the end of the day and you begin the walk to the parking lot.
As you’re nearing the car you spot Kai across the lot again, but this time he wasn’t alone. One of his classmates was with him clearly trying to flirt, ignoring the obvious discomfort on Kais face.
“So, prom is coming up… we should totally go together,” she began, more of a request than a question. He gave a nervous laugh in response and the weak excuse of “being out of town” that weekend. He was a horrible liar, but he was so gentle with his rejection that the girl wasn’t even phased. You didn’t miss how his eyes briefly glanced over to you right before he answered her.
Soon after she left another of his friends approached him. You slowed down a little on your walk to the car, curious to hear more of his conversations.
“We’re headed to the city this weekend to go shopping you have to come with us,” the friend excitedly begged. You expected another rejection but were surprised when Kai agreed, claiming he wanted to buy a book that was only available in a store downtown.
The friend seemed shocked by the easy acceptance too but wasted no time giving Kai the details of where they’d meet. This had you stopping in your tracks.
Of course Kai would be going shopping right next to the woods you and Beomgyu had decided to hunt at this weekend. Great.
You tell your family as soon as they’re all by the car too and immediately push for a change of plans regarding the hunt. Surprisingly they all disagree claiming that you and Beomgyu will be careful enough and to not worry.
How wrong they would come to be.

I KNEW THIS MAN WAS A PICTURE PERSON !!!
(translation credits to @translatingTXT on twitter <3)
dates they take you on
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
txt x reader
summary: different dates they’d plan to take you on
Tumblr media
choi soobin
something very domestic
he found a super complicated baking recipe online and decided you guys HAD to try it
cue classic cliche baking moments
you get some flour on his nose as a joke and this man DOUBLES DOWN in response you find flour in your hair for days
overall the kitchen is a disaster when you’re done but you guys had so much fun it doesn’t even matter
it’s even better when the recipe actually turns out surprisingly good
he immediately brags to the guys on their gc
(they’re spamming him to bring them some but he’s 100% ignoring them)
he’s just so boyfriend (insert dreamy sigh)
constantly hugging you and resting his head on yours while you’re waiting for the dish to finish baking
after you both enjoy the dessert he’s rushing to clean up insisting you stay sitting down comfy
(obviously you go to help him and he keeps pouting at you saying “he’s got it !!”)
even more fun while cleaning up the kitchen because you guys sing songs and do little dance routines to help pass the time
obviously you guys are using the kitchen utensils as microphones because duh
does not care that you are off-key he finds you adorable and is just having such a good time laughing with you
overall he’s just very into cute domestic dates that are more about quality time with one another than anything else
choi yeonjun
he seems big on enjoying a cool place with you
something like going to the beach would definitely be on his list
this man would not let you do anyyy of the planning but also would not tell you a single detail of his plan which he swears is amazing
he packs a full picnic full of all your favorite snacks and drinks
he brings cute things like a film camera and toys to build a sand castle
also remembers the important things like sunscreen, water, hats, sunglasses, etc.
he even remembers that you love collecting sea shells and brings a small container for you to take them with you so you won’t lose any
he’s all about the experience itself and enjoying it with you but he’s still going to try and cover every detail possible to make sure it’s a smooth experience
he wants you to feel relaxed and enjoy your time together so he will be super considerate of the logistics so that the day of it’s all good
constant teasing. he takes off his shirt to get in the water and before you could even blink he’s already saying “ooo you like what you see”
compliments you to the ends of the earth even when all you are doing is suntanning or reading a book
when you join him in the water all gentleman behavior is off he is body slamming u (not literally but like he will be carrying u around and splashing you with waves and essentially battling you the entire time)
makes sure you guys stop to eat lunch and are drinking enough water and half the time he’s taking pictures of you doing absolutely nothing with the film camera because you’re “his muse”
(he’s also a sucker for mementos of the trip, he will definitely be stealing one of the shells you find)
sand castle building becomes sand castle competition immediately and he’s very willing to sabotage your castle to ensure his wins (you’re still gonna win but he loves the chaos)
overall very much about doing something fun and exciting with you but dealing with all the details and taking care of you the whole time too
choi beomgyu
so many ideas but my mind keeps coming back to arcade date
he just loves the chaos and competitive aspect of it
don’t think he’s gonna be nice just because you guys are dating this is an every man for themselves situation
will keep track of scores and will tease you when he beats you at dance dance revolution
mainly he likes this type of date because you guys are constantly doing something together but also because he gets to watch you having fun
as exciting as the games are nothing beats the feelings he gets when he looks over to see your super concentrated (and cute) face or to see you laughing as you miserably fail at the punching bag strength game
will be winning you any prize you want.
you cant even let your gaze linger too long on a plushie or prize because he will notice and make it his mission to win it for you
excited puppy smile every time he proudly presents you with the prize
super cliche teasing like pretending he doesn’t know you and asking if you come here often or “helping to correct your form” for the basketball game as an excuse to hug you
(as if he needs one)
it’s cute you thought you would get your own drink when you guys stop to eat he is 100% doing the 2 straws cliche in whatever you guys order
(he insists it’s more romantic but you just think he likes how nervous and flustered you get when he drinks at the same time as you)
overall he would want to do something entertaining but where he can also just let loose and have fun with you
kang taehyun
i also cycled through a few ideas but i feel like he’s just someone that would enjoy a zoo date
his reasoning is that the animals will always be doing something different so it’s a “new experience every time”
he also likes to see how excited you get looking at the different animals and how you always talk to them or give them little back stories
he is endlessly entertained by you just constantly giving you that starry eyed smile (we all know the one !!)
will make it his mission to list any interesting facts he knows about the animals or the zoo itself
this man is a picture person idc !
his camera roll is just pictures of you from every angle ever doing anything
you insist he deletes the ones you don’t like but he refuses claiming that you always look perfect so why would he erase perfection
(easily leaves you a blushing mess with his bluntness)
will get silly animal face paint with you and take a billion selfies of the both of you with it
i feel like he’s a big spender not in a flashy way but more so he feels it’s a day for the both of you and you guys deserve to enjoy the best in the moment
constantly getting snacks for you two or silly headbands and will definitely be buying you something from the gift shop
(if you try to pay he immediately refuses and insists on covering it)
he lowkey likes that the zoo doubles as a workout and will jokingly do squats or lunges randomly
if there’s any kind of animal feeding opportunity you both are immediately there and he’s taking a ton of photos of the moment
(he just really likes to look back and reflect on the memories or see your face smiling back at him when he checks his phone)
overall he is just looking forward to doing something that allows him to talk to you a lot, take a lot of photos, and is new or exciting each time
huening kai
big fan of at home dates
why waste time getting ready and going to a super crowded place when you can just spend all day together and be comfy ??
when i say all day i mean all day.
he will show up bright and early at your place just to be able to nap with you until noon
i feel like he’s big on watching something together like a movie or anime or even playing video games together
will bring a sleepover bag filled with essentials it’s funny you thought he was ever leaving
also brings snacks ofc and i feel like he brings you random snacks he thinks you might like so it’s a fun experience of you guys trying them and reviewing it
speaking of random things he is king of gift giving he can’t see a single thing that reminds him of you because he will get it no hesitation
cute plushie with your energy? bought it. random flower he saw in your favorite color? he immediately picked it.
he is just always giving you things and whenever you get him stuff in return he cherishes it like it’s the greatest gift on the planet
(even if it’s just a rock you saw that kind of looked like a heart he will think it’s hilarious and the most amazing thing ever)
after settling on something to watch he insists on coziness i’m talking like a ton of blankets, pillows, plushies, warm drinks just ultimate comfort
i feel like he’s the type to talk during shows and movies like just to make commentary or laugh and he enjoys when you keep up the banter with him or offer your own thoughts
it’s his perfect way of spending time with you and also continuing to get to know you and create silly inside jokes, etc.
definitely the type to randomly go play you a song on a keyboard or piano if you have or decide to braid your hair
overall he’s into anything interactive and fun the both of you can share together at home while enjoying each other’s presence (and presents !)

make this feel like home
Tumblr media
summary:
Sure you and Yeonjun had always been sort of a package deal. You became friends at a young age, attended all the same schools, and now attended the same college. It had been great coming into college with a best friend already and you easily found a friend group you both got along with.
You never expected said friend group to insinuate that Yeonjun could possibly like you. It just didn’t make sense.
or: your classic oblivious childhood best friends to lovers
genre: childhood friends to lovers, angst with a happy ending, misunderstandings, oblivious, college
warnings: angst, curse words, crying, party setting, drinking, throwing up, misunderstandings
notes: first post kinda nervous … anyways hope at least one person enjoys this !! Let me know what you think <3
*** i reposted this because tumblr mobile messed up my first version and i’m hoping this time it posts correctly ***
Tumblr media
Choi Yeonjun has always reminded you of home. Growing up as neighbors you had become fast friends, something that had never changed. Here you were years later, still best friends with him, as you both attended the latest party on campus.
You were never much of a partier, preferring to hang out with friends somewhere you could actually hold a conversation without screaming. Yeonjun on the other hand had quickly taken to the party scene your first year in college and still liked to go even now in your senior year.
The few parties you went to were after weeks of begging from Yeonjun to go with him. You don’t know why he even bothered to ask you so much, he knew you could never say no to him.
That’s how you found yourself crammed on a shitty couch with some of your friends, waiting for Yeonjun to come back with your drinks, on what could have been a peaceful Friday night spent catching up on your favorite show. You sighed trying to get a little more comfortable on the couch smiling back at Kai’s apologetic grimace.
“I would say i’m surprised you’re here, but Yeonjun has been looking forward to this party for way too long. I knew he’d convince you to come,” started Taehyun motioning towards you. The others murmured their agreements at the statement. Seems like the whole world knew just how wrapped around his finger Yeonjun has you.
“It’s easier to come to these things than to deal with his constant whining,” you attempted to defend yourself, not sure why you suddenly felt a little offended. They hadn’t really said anything that wasn’t true.
Sensing the change in your mood the others tried to steer the conversation away but Soobin didn’t get the hint.
“I mean let’s be honest, if you gave him a firm no he would cancel everything and go spend time with you anyways,” Soobin reasoned in an attempt to even out the statements from earlier.
You laughed, giving a small “Yeah right,” in response and were surprised to be met with dumbfounded stares. Suddenly they were all more engaged in this conversation than before.
“He’s not kidding. Yeonjun would literally do anything you asked it’s kind of funny to watch him following you around like a puppy,” continued Beomgyu, the rest of the guys all nodding in agreement.
“A love sick puppy,” added Kai, giggling into his cup. Taehyun roughly elbowed him hissing what sounded like a “shut up, idiot.”
You simply continued to stare at them in confusion.
All your life it’s always been you and Yeonjun as the duo, one never really without the other. With this, however, always came the assumption that you had a major crush on Yeonjun or something. Some people had even gone as far as to insinuate that Yeonjun put up with you because he was nice or that he took pity on you. In most peoples heads, it was always you following the bright star that was Yeonjun who was always just slightly out of your orbit.
(Yeonjun and the guys were not big fans of these people, constantly defending you much to your embarassment.)
This is why the guys statements caught you so off guard. In your time as friends you had never heard the opposite. Yeonjun chasing after you? Yeonjun doing whatever you asked? Yeonjun having a crush on you?
It simply wasn’t conceivable. You knew you and Yeonjun were equals in the friendship despite what so many thought but you also knew it was never anything more than friendship.
Settled by this train of thought you decided that they had to be joking or trying to prank you, and gave another awkward laugh. “That’s funny. You always hear people saying I like him not the other way around. Good one guys,” you continued trying to show them that whatever it is they were trying to accomplish was not working.
You watched as they glanced at each other in disbelief. Scanning the room briefly and concluding that Yeonjun was still in the kitchen somewhere, Soobin risked continuing the conversation. “We really aren’t kidding. Look we probably shouldn’t be telling you this but it’s kind of tiring watching you both dance around the obvious feelings there,” he replied, no hint of humor on his face.
You sputtered a bit and tried to defend yourself against these claims. All the times anyone had ever even hinted at you liking Yeonjun had ended with the guys rushing to your defense, yet here they were saying the exact same thing. Not only that, but they were adding a new layer of Yeonjun liking you back.
“C’mon, you’re like one of the most perceptive people I know. I could’ve sworn you knew he liked you and just didn’t know what to do about it. He’s the oblivious one,” Taehyun cut your weak defense off with.
“Yeah, he’s always being dramatic wondering if ‘he’s fated to watch you end up with someone else and be stuck loving you forever’ or some sappy shit like that,” tacked on Beomgyu doing a poor impression of Yeonjuns voice.
“Love?!” you finally got out having been unable to even give a response through your sheer shock.
Beomgyu’s eyes widened in realization of what he said but before anyone could chime in and correct the situation Yeonjun finally came back, drinks in hand.
You felt yourself blushing and mentally cursed the guys for putting any of these thoughts into your head. You had come to terms a long, long time ago that you and Yeonjun would always be best friends. You were okay with that. You beat back any non-platonic feelings that had crept up and eventually got so good at it, that you didn’t even have to worry about liking him.
Because you totally didn’t. No way. Doesn’t matter what the guys say they’re definitely wrong.
Despite this you still found yourself thinking about what they had just said.
Aside from you, they did know Yeonjun best and if there’s something he wasn’t telling you, (like the fact he apparently is harboring a huge crush on you), he would definitely tell one if not all of them. You paused at this thought, suppressing a gasp.
What if they were really telling the truth?
You didn’t have anymore time to linger on this because Yeonjun was suddenly right in front of you, offering you the drink he had made for you (because he had your favorite drink memorized). Totally something best friends do. Right?
To say you were freaking out was an understatement, and you could tell the guys definitely knew by their guilty glances at you.
“Sorry I took so long! I ran into Wooyoung on the way there and we got caught up talking,” Yeonjun announced to the group, unaware of what had just happened.
You gave a weak thanks as you accepted the cup, suddenly hyper aware of all your interactions with him. Not to mention you now felt like you were being watched by the guys.
“So, what did I miss?” questioned Yeonjun causing Kai to give a nervous laugh and Beomgyu to respond with “Nothing!” too quickly.
Way to be subtle.
“Oh so I definitely missed something good. You’ll tell me right?” he teasingly answered, turning to face you with a questioning look. You locked eyes with Taehyun who’s face of horror was likely mirroring your own.
You bravely risked a glance up at Yeonjun noting that he had absolutely no worries that you’d ever not tell him what he missed. He trusted you.
(“He looovess you,” sing-songed your gremlin brain. Didn’t know we were in middle school.)
“Just the guys being stupid like always, nothing actually important,” you finally decided to respond with, surprised at how stable your voice sounded. You had always been comforted by Yeonjuns presence, it’s not very surprising you still would be even when he was currently the root of all your problems.
(“Because you’re in love with him,” that same annoying voice in your head supplied. It sounded suspiciously like Soobin.)
He simply nodded in response giving a small laugh, and you could see the others sighing in relief.
You expected it to be left at that. You would go back to pretending you didn’t like him (because you didn’t !!). You would also now pretend to not know he apparently likes you (because he definitely does not). The guys would grovel for forgiveness from you for the rest of your life. It was a simple plan really. Easy.
Apparently it was not that easy.
“Wait i’m like sooo invested in what you guys were saying,” slurred a voice to your left. The group turned in confusion to the girl standing near the couch, clearly well past her first drink. “So that guy that just came in that’s the one you guys said likes her back, right?,” she continued, pointing shakily at you, unaware of the panicked looks that had now overtaken everyone’s faces.
“So they’re in love and didn’t know or whatever. What happens next? I reallyyy want to know you guys are SO good at telling stories,” she pouted at the group. A stunned silence followed her words. Suddenly she gagged, eyes widening as she rushed over to the bathroom.
There went your plan, destroyed by a case of drinking and eavesdropping.
Frozen in your spot you struggled to figure out what to even do next. Yeonjun wasn’t stupid, there was no saying the girl was too drunk and didn’t know what she was saying, not with everyone’s immediate guilty reactions.
Clearing his throat, he asked, “So, anyone care to tell me what that was all about?” He definitely did not sound happy.
(“He totally sounded embarrassed though,” tried the little voice. Read the room.)
You had never been much of a crier but you suddenly found tears rolling down your face, feeling utterly helpless for once.
You couldn’t believe this is how your friendship with Yeonjun would end.
Suddenly too overwhelmed to continue experiencing this you frantically stood up, desperately wiping your tears away to try and preserve some of your dignity.
“Wait! Where are you going?” Yeonjun called but it was too late you had already taken off, weaving through the crowd to the exit.
You were pretty sure you didn’t have to worry about anyone following you either. Not after that.
You were almost at the door when you felt someone grab your wrist. Stupidly, you let yourself be filled with hope that it was Yeonjun and you had been wrong about him not following you.
It wasn’t. It was the same girl from earlier. She looked worse for wear, having clearly thrown up. “Hey, you have to let me know how that story finishes. I’m rooting for you guys,” she said, not noticing your disheveled state. You laughed weakly and pulled out of her grasp continuing in your earlier path out of here.
You stumbled into the street, jogging in the direction you think your dorm was in. Yeonjun had brought you to the party, and you hadn’t really thought to pay attention to the directions. Tonight wasn’t supposed to end like this.
Suddenly you heard your name being called and looked back to see Yeonjun sprinting towards you. He didn’t look particularly happy or “in love” right now. He honestly looked pretty pissed off.
You guessed this was it. He finally came to his senses after all that and was here to tell you to leave him alone, to forget you were ever friends. You still couldn’t find it in yourself to truly be mad at or blame the guys. They thought they were helping. You could see them running after Yeonjun but while he continued his journey towards you they lingered by the doorway, uneasy looks on their faces.
You hoped he didn’t take this out on them. They were still good friends for him all things considered.
Finally reaching you on the sidewalk, Yeonjun paused to catch his breath and you tried your best to mentally prepare for what he was going to say. Not that you were doing that good of a job, if anything your earlier tears had practically become full on sobs.
“You scared the shit out of me,” started Yeonjun, causing you to look up at him in confusion. “Don’t ever run away like that again please. I know i’m a dancer and all but I am not about to take up running anytime soon,” he wheezed a bit, placing his hand on your shoulder.
You laughed through your tears unsure what you were even supposed to be feeling right now.
“Sorry I was a bit late running after you, I needed to confirm with the guys that I heard that girl right before I made a complete idiot of myself in front of you,” he continued, suddenly seeming more shy and awkward. All you could do was blink up at him.
“I mean I did hear her right according to them. She did say ‘likes her back’ because you like me too right? The guys weren’t messing around with me?” his voice was now shaky and a little desperate as he stared into your glassy eyes.
“What?” was all you could manage in response, not quite sure what exactly was happening right now.
This was apparently not the correct response because it looked like a light suddenly went out in him. His shoulder slumped immediately and he began to backtrack on what he had said.
You cut him off trying to get some clarity on the situation, “Hold on, so you don’t hate me and want to end our friendship right now?”
The look he gave you in response honestly made you feel kind of embarrassed for even asking that.
“What!?! Hate you? I think i’m incapable of hating you. No, I am not about to end our friendship. I’m here wondering if we’ve been in love with each other for our whole lives and have been too stupid and scared to realize or act on it!” he let out, emotions clearly getting to him as his eyes began to water as well.
You gasped and decided to buy time to respond by flinging yourself into his arms. He held you tight immediately, burying his face into your hair. Finally gathering your thoughts, you began to answer him.
“I do love you. I always have. I-I never knew what to do with it, never knew if I could give all that love to you, so I just pretended it wasn’t there. I was happy just to have you in my life I didn’t care how,” you admitted into the safety of his jacket, burning face buried away from his curious eyes.
He pulled back, tilting your chin up, removing you from your hiding spot. He was now crying as well which only served to make you start crying even harder. You were never good at seeing him cry.
“I’m so in love with you it physically hurts. I always thought I would be forever stuck on loving you from a distance but never having you. Now that I know being yours is an option I’m never letting go,” he fiercely responded, shaking you slightly.
Cupping his face you let yourself do the one thing you’ve always wanted to. You kissed him.
Loud cheers suddenly interrupted the moment and you both pulled away started. The guys had begun to cheer you on having watched the whole thing unfold. Laughing, you buried yourself back into Yeonjuns arms feeling shy. He held you close. His embrace felt like home.

Tumblr media
The next day you headed to biology with a game plan. You were sure you made a fool of yourself with your behavior yesterday and decided you needed to be way nicer to Kai if you ever wanted to be his friend.
With words of encouragement from your family (and a few teasing comments) you walked into class early and sat in your usual seat. It wasn’t long before Kai was walking in surrounded by the flock of teenagers that were desperately attempting to adopt him into their friend group.
Sensing eyes on him Kai looked up at you and you willed yourself not to immediately look away cursing the childish nerves coursing through your body. You really had to pull yourself together, you couldn’t be giggling and kicking your feet every time he so much as looked at you.
Kai finally sat at the lab bench with you and you wasted no time in setting your plan into action.
“Hello. I’m sorry we didn’t get the chance to talk properly yesterday I wasn’t feeling the best,” you began hoping this was a believable enough excuse for your behavior but knowing Kai likely saw right through it. You continued to introduce yourself feeling more nervous and out of your element than you have in years.
Considering you couldn’t read his thoughts, the lack of instant feedback on how you were handling this left you itching to know just what he really thought of you.
Kai finally looked up after you finished your introduction and after a brief, considering pause replied, “Hi, I’m Kai but I bet you already knew that.” He finished with an awkward laugh and a shy smile that left you kind of speechless.
You noticed him beginning to turn towards the front of the classroom likely expecting this exchange to be over with. Before you could really consider it you began speaking again.
“So, what brings you to Forks all the way from Hawaii? How are you liking it?” you questioned, internally cringing at your awkwardness and the fact that he was probably so tired of being asked the same thing.
He paused in his movements, clearly surprised to hear you addressing him again and looked back at you. “Just family stuff. Forks has been…” he hesitated and shot you a look you truly wished you could decipher, “Its been alright. Everyone has been pretty welcoming, well almost everyone.”
You winced a little at the clear dig towards your actions yesterday. “Sorry about that, you really caught me on a bad day,” you lamely excused knowing you would never be able to truly explain and apologize for your behavior.
He gave you a small shrug with a half smile in response and was about to turn back to the front again before he paused clearly debating asking you something. You gave what you hoped was an encouraging smile and he met your gaze before boldly asking, “Do you wear contacts or something? I swear your eyes were darker yesterday but today they look almost hazel.”
Caught off guard you physically flinched away from him during this line of questioning and scrambled to find a good excuse. Luckily for you, your teacher began to walk in and you briefly replied, “Um, no, maybe it’s the lighting in this room or something.” Finishing this statement with an incredibly awkward laugh and facing to the front, you used the teacher beginning the lesson as a signal of the end of this conversation.
Kai gave you yet another long considering look but dropped the subject simply humming in response and turning to listen to the lecture. You could hear Taehyun mentally cackling at you from across the school. This was not how you wanted this conversation to pan out.
It was just your luck that today's lesson would include working in pairs. You noticed Kai stiffen a bit at this news and felt even worse than you already did. Mustering up some courage (as if you weren’t a literal vampire), you turned to Kai asking if he wanted to get started on the assignment.
After another brief pause on his end (where you swear you saw your entire life flash before your eyes) he nodded in agreement and jokingly added, “Just promise me we’ll win the golden onion.”
Stunned by his sudden playfulness and the small grin he sported you just stared dumbly for a few seconds only responding after noticing his smile start to waver. “I promise, that onion will be yours in no time.”
You could not believe the stupid golden onion, yes an actual onion painted gold, that your teacher offered as a prize today was getting you a positive interaction with Kai. What has your life become?
After that exchange you both settled in and began the assignment. You were impressed by how easily the subject came to Kai with many of your classmates struggling to identify the stages of the cells. It was no surprise when you guys finished first and answered every question correctly.
If yesterday was the longest class has ever felt then today was definitely the shortest. You and Kai mainly focused on the assignment but you were able to briefly squeeze in a few questions throughout the lesson. You learned that he loves penguins, something he excitedly turned to tell you about after you pointed out the penguin pin on his backpack. He also speaks multiple languages which definitely piqued your interest considering how as a vampire you have picked up many languages as well.
Every time you guys talked about something that wasn’t class related he was very bubbly and excited to share but you could tell he was definitely holding back. You supposed he had a right to be wary of you especially after you’ve shown him a total 180 in terms of behavior, but it still bothered you. It made you that much more determined to be on his good side.
You were both crowned the “winners'' of today's lesson and the teacher awarded you with the golden onion and a homework pass. Kai excitedly turned to you shaking the golden onion triumphantly with a huge smile on his face. You couldn’t help the wide smile you gave in response as you both began to pack up for your next class.
“I told you we’d win it, I never break my promises,” you told Kai as you both began to walk out of the room. To your surprise he stayed by your side as you walked towards your locker.
“That’s really good to know. I have to say i’m looking forward to learning more about you,” he replied, back to his more reserved self and offering you a very small smile.
Excited but confused by his bold statement you questioned him on why that was. “You’re not like the other people in Forks. You’re different,” he began giving you that same indecipherable look as always.
He quickly rushed out “In a good way, of course! I just mean I would like to get to know why you are different. Sorry if that didn’t make any sense,” he finished with a mumble, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck and gazing at you from under his bangs.
For a moment you wondered just how perceptive Kai really is and considering how smart you knew him to be you couldn’t help worrying he’d figure out exactly what made you so different. Fear ran ice cold through your veins and you struggled to give him back a smile and a brief reassurance that you understood what he meant.
You weren’t sure you’d ever understand him.
After that you both parted ways to attend the rest of your classes. You briefly saw him at lunch and realized that his eyes were flickering towards where you sat even more than they had yesterday. Something that did not go unnoticed by your siblings either, much to your dismay.
“So when’s the wedding then?” began Yeonjun, giving a pointed look towards where Kai was failing once again to discreetly glance at you. You gave Yeonjun a deadpan stare and didn’t even grace his question with a response.
“Something is up though, you don’t feel as determined or excited as yesterday. What happened?” questioned Soobin confirming that he had felt the shift in your emotions but had been waiting for the best time to bring it up. Before answering you risked a glance at Taehyun in an attempt to gauge whether today's events impacted the “positive” future he kept assuring you of.
Despite his poker face you could easily read his thoughts and confirm for now that it was all still good and this reassured you more than anything he could’ve said. You briefly explained to Soobin and the rest what Kai had said earlier and how it scared you a little bit considering you actually did have a very huge, important secret you were all hiding.
“I doubt he would figure it out. I mean he’s smart and all but what sane person would randomly come to the conclusion of someone being a vampire?” Beomgyu immediately responded in an attempt at comforting you. The rest nodded along and offered similar sentiments about the issue. You sat silently, processing their words and hoping for your sake they were right.
Even with their support, you couldn’t help but feel unnerved by the curious and questioning look you saw in Kai’s eyes every time he looked over at you.
The rest of the day passed in a blur of uneventfulness. Your siblings spent much of the rest of the day trying to cheer you up while also giving you enough space to think, something you were grateful for.
At the end of the day you all walked to the parking lot bickering over what movie to watch today. You couldn’t help but glance over at Kai one last time as he neared his car across the parking lot. He was a bit distracted with headphones in quickly checking his phone before he decided to leave for the day. Even while distracted it seems he senses your present and his eyes briefly left his phone and locked with yours.
Suddenly you heard a loud, screeching sound and your eyes quickly darted over to see another student losing control of their car on the icy road. Your eyes widened as you realized the path the car was going to take would head straight for Kai who had yet to hear the commotion.
Without thinking you used your vampire speed to make it over to Kai in time, shielding his body just as the car came careening towards him. You desperately flung your arm out hoping  to lessen the impact of the car on the both of you. You heard a loud unsatisfying crunch as the bumper made contact with your hands.
Thankfully you had made it just in time and both you and Kai were relatively unharmed, with Kai having merely bumped his head against his own car. “Are you okay?” you frantically questioned, glancing over him to ensure there was no serious damage. He gave you a dazed look in response that had you worrying if that head bump was actually more serious than it looked.
“How did you get to me so fast?” is not the answer you were expecting to get. You froze, staring down at him in shock and, while feeling guilty about it, told him he was confused from hitting his head. He sputtered in disbelief attempting to counter your claim but you quickly cut him off, “I was right by your car and you’re lucky I was too. You should definitely get your head checked to make sure everything’s okay you aren’t making sense right now. I’m worried.”
He sent you a glare about to open his mouth and argue once again but luckily the rest of the students finally made it to where you guys were trapped between the cars. You quickly fixed the dent in the car's bumper to avoid any suspicion from other students. You already had your hands full (literally) with Kai’s questioning gaze.
You helped Kai stand up again and reassured everyone you guys were fine. You also took this chance to restate that you think Kai needs to be checked on since he hit his head, something he immediately began to protest against.
You quickly ushered him towards the approaching ambulance, careful to avoid his accusatory glare. Mentally you heard your family wondering if you were okay but also berating you a bit for being so careless. You definitely had a lot of damage control to do after this.

Luckily for you, your teacher began to walk in and you briefly replied, “Um, no, maybe it’s the lighting in this room or something.” Finishing this statement with an incredibly awkward laugh and facing to the front, you used the teacher beginning the lesson as a signal of the end of this conversation.

dates they take you on
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
txt x reader
summary: different dates they’d plan to take you on
Tumblr media
choi soobin
something very domestic
he found a super complicated baking recipe online and decided you guys HAD to try it
cue classic cliche baking moments
you get some flour on his nose as a joke and this man DOUBLES DOWN in response you find flour in your hair for days
overall the kitchen is a disaster when you’re done but you guys had so much fun it doesn’t even matter
it’s even better when the recipe actually turns out surprisingly good
he immediately brags to the guys on their gc
