Summary: Childhood friends doesn’t always equal lovers in the future. You wished that was the case, but ever since Keigo disappeared, you found it hard to believe in love again. 

(A/N): this was. i had to write this. it wasn’t up for debate. finishing this at 4am in the morning aldksjfhajshd. spent a grant total of 2 days brainstorming & writing this fic. not proofread at all. heavily inspired by the song 小幸运 by Hebe Tien. i strongly suggest you give it a try and listen to it as you read this :p (for all my chinese speakers out there…let’s see how you deal with this heartbreak :’) so yeah. i’m actually…really really proud of this fic. i tried a new format with this, and i think i kinda like it. also i left the ending up to interpretation if you don’t read the epilogue. enjoy!

Little thirst ask because the bird man makes my heart stop ❤ So like, birds have their courting rituals, yes? But what would happen if the reader *accidentally* did courting stuff for Hawks? Like giving him pretty things, 'preening' his hair, making a comfy lil nest so he doesn't hurt his wings?

This is just dumb, unedited nonsense I’m sorry lmfao

First... it was the bottle cap.

“Keigo, look!” you chirped, holding up the decorative piece of metal you’d just discovered on the sidewalk. It shimmered in the midday sun, tempting Keigo like the tiny piece of treasure that it was.“This must be one of those special ones... from when they did that contest a while back.”  You giggled, flipping it on your thumb before snatching it back out of the air. “ It’s worthless now.” 

His pupils constricted as he watched you.

In your eyes, the cap was nothing more than an intriguing piece of trash. But to Keigo, it was a priceless artifact. Something to be cherished and guarded jealously. 

He stifled his gasp as you passed it off to him, accepting the precious gift with a full heart and starry eyes.

It was beautiful. 

Then, there was the grooming:

“Keigo sit still,” you grumbled, trying to free blobs of goop from his silky golden hair.

He’d won a battle against a sludge villain earlier that day... but the damage had been done. In one final ‘fuck you’ moment, the jerk had slimed him, soaking the hero from head to toe in a sticky, viscous fluid.

Getting this crap out of his hair was going to take forever. 

“I can do this myself, you know?” he murmured, folding his arms with a pout.

You cooed at him, calling him a grumpy goose which he did not appreciate. 

How could you say something so inconsiderate?

“Don’t worry buddy. I don’t mind preening your plumage.” Your tone was playful, but the phrase flipped something in Hawks. His eyes went wide as he stared off into the distance, a sense of awe overtaking him.

Never mind. She’s perfect.

And finally, there was the nesting:

“Lift up.”

Hawks complies, doing a quick crunch and allowing you to slip a pillow behind his back. He falls back into it with a thud, sighing contentedly. You really were a great roommate. Always helping him out when he limped home to nurse his wounds.

“Thanks. I really can’t stop getting my ass kicked lately,” he chuckles airily, eyes drifting closed on a yawn.

“No worries. Figured I’d get you all settled into your nest before I went to bed.”

“W-What was that?”

You quirk a brow. “What? Getting you settled into your nest? You’ve never heard that phrase before?”

He squints at you. 

“Alright. Listen. You’ve been teasing me for weeks. Do you wanna smash or what?

"Excuse me what the fuck?”
