Nina surprising Toby for his birthday with a big homemade cake & presents when he got home from an intense mission.

“You made this for me?” Toby would ask, eyes lighting up with delight as he noticed the cake was his favorite flavor.

“Of course I did. It’s a special day after all!” She’d reply, leaning in to kiss his cheek with an excited smile. He would blow out the candles and the two would spend the night talking and eating cake, before Nina would present a gift she got him- a stuffed cow just like the one he’d had as a child.

It would make tears almost come to his eyes, as he picked up the small fuzzy plush, a warm wave of comfortable nostalgia washing over him from buried memories in his mind.

“Thank you so much.” He’d pull her into a tight hug, and she’d squeeze him right back with a giddy kind of energy.

“Anytime. Happy birthday, Tobes.”

I’ve touched on this before I think but Nina LOVES space. And Toby knows she loves it. So whenever he comes across anything space related he sends it to her. Whether it be a bracelet with planets on it to an article he came across online, he sends it all to her. Even if he doesn’t buy the object he just sends a picture to her. And when she’s rambling on and on about galaxies and exoplanets he listens to every word because he knows how important it is to her.

Likewise, I can see Toby really being interested in ocean creatures. Sharks and eels in particular. And Nina will absolutely go all out for him because of this. She will buy him every single goddamn shark related item she comes across. He has a MASSIVE collection in his room and he is a little concerned with how much she spends on this stuff. Whenever Nina goes to visit her friend Zero who lives in Florida, she brings Toby with because she knows how excited he gets whenever they’re at the beach. She also sets up tons of dates at aquariums specifically for him, and the whole time he’ll be telling her cool facts about the creatures they see.

Seriously though infodumping about this stuff is so important to both of them. They’ll have times where they just go back and forth rambling about their favorite things, and it’s one of the first activities they really connected with.

As a date, Nina and Toby went to see the recent eclipse. Drove all the way to Illinois to see it fully, and Nina was so ecstatic. Her excitement was contagious too, Toby couldn’t help but smile when he saw her delighted and amazed expression once totality hit. Afterwards the two went out for a nice dinner and cuddled up on the couch to watch space themed movies before falling asleep :3

Nina LOVES to go to big events. Parties, concerts, things like that. But she also gets overstimulated & stressed VERY easily. Because of this, Toby often will come with her to these events to make sure she’s alright. He’s recognized all her signs of starting to get stressed out, even though she hides it very well, and will take her to a quieter place whenever she’s getting to that point to make sure she’s okay :)
