thinking about the facility in paper lily... i kind of want to make a verse or something that uses that kind of. backrooms-esque, industrial/scientific aesthetic, but specifically horror. the cross between science and the paranormal. idk where i'm going with this but???

like after kat gets trapped in the demon world (assuming that's what happened for the sake of rp, we really have no idea atp of canon) - her becoming a kind of "mad scientist" or doctor would be really cool actually. one who deals in the paranormal especially... like what if??

Truth be told, a part of Kat is starting to have second thoughts. She came here hoping for some excitement, but that doesn't mean becoming a criminal - and if she gets caught, which - let's face it - is pretty likely, what would happen to her...? She can feel feel her heart starting to race a little as she thinks about it. But it kind of feels too late to back out now.

This kid's unassuming demeanor just pulled her in too easily... but can she really leave him on his own? It's an absurd thought - of course she can - but it makes her mind swim with conflict nonetheless. ...It's not like she's actually stealing anything. Just breaking in alone, as a teenager's first time offence... well, maybe it wouldn't be all that bad...

Either way, it's not like Kat hasn't taken gambles before. This is just... a new kind of risk. But there's a first time for everything.

Quickly, she decides it's probably best to stick with Daisuke instead of going off on her own. He might be a novice, but he did break in pretty efficiently, so he might know more than it looks like. With that in mind, she begins to follow behind him quietly and carefully, and when she finally speaks up, it's in a quiet whisper.

"I've gotta admit, you didn't seem like the type with the guts to do something like this. ...You sure you're gonna be alright? What would your parents think if you got caught...?"

' wha --- no , that's not what i meant ! i just mean that if you get into trouble in another place , and you've got a bus or a flight to catch or something ... !! ' yeah , getting into serious criminal trouble , beginning with trespassing and stretching out even further into things like aiding and abetting ... there were some things that not even a young , innocent age could excuse .

' my --- i'm not a mister ! m-my name is niwa daisuke , ' actually , was it good to be telling her something like this ? whatever happened to pseudonyms ? anonymity ? especially when he was hoping that they'd never meet again and witness each other in daylight .

in the end , he figures --- if he really couldn't stop her from coming along , he could at least stop her from coming up with weird nicknames for him ... but still , this was really nerve-wracking , at least a thousand times more than were he breaking in all by himself . if it were dark , would he have just laughed at and coolly welcomed the other's guts ? daisuke can practically hear it already --- what , what ? playing escort , and you didn't even wake me ?

' just ... ' the hallways behind him are brightly lit in certain areas , cloaked by night in others . ' stay in the dark ! d-don't touch anything ! and don't , don't , don't get caught ! ' it's not that he could've have helped her if it really came down to it , but he really , really didn't want what was supposed to be a quiet espionage mission to turn into a dramatic rescue ! ' i'm --- there's a room i really need to check , so , d-do whatever you want ! '

"A familiar, huh?"

Kat almost wants to snort at the cliche, but she holds back her cynicism and smiles cheekily instead. Cat's already doing so much for her that it would feel rude to be that way with her now.

Although... in spite of Kat's excitement, she's still well aware that there's no guarantee that Cat is actually a witch like she claims. It's dangerous to get her hopes up, especially when every lead she's followed up until now has turned out to be a bust... when she thinks about that, she suddenly feels a little foolish for getting so excited just now. Something about Catalina seems... different than the others - she doesn't come across as a liar to Kat, but even so... it's not like Kat to be so naive about people...

Well, she's already swallowed her pride now. Might as well go along with it all the way to the end.

"I'm sure I'll win him over in no time." she says mischievously. "Don't get jealous when he makes me his new favorite, 'kay?"

There was the subtle silence that filled the air between them as Kat was adjusting. Catalina could understand, the truth seemed stranger than fiction at times but lying was never something she did. If it was possible, then it can be done. Coming from various planes of existence was child's play once she got the hang of it. Yet Kat was nothing like her. So there did have to be stronger safety precautions in place.

Rising from the booth she carefully takes her wallet and opens it up, removing the bills needed to pay for the drinks. Placing it on the table, her nails lightly tap against it, "Alright, now would be a good time then."

At the mention of Solomon being her pet, she snorts. If he were her pet, then maybe he would actually listen to her for once, "He's my familiar."

"I'd say family even. He practically raised me when I was a kid," Originally her grandfather's companion but now the contract passed onto her. A final remnant of him to linger on for all eternity. "You could probably bribe him to like you if you give him a honey bun."

Admits the witch as she began walking, "Lucky for you, I have plenty of those."

It's only when Serpent comments on her own appearance that Saki notices anything different about her at all... but as she stares into those snake-like eyes, sharp and clear, Saki can feel that moment she flinches back in terror. Is this how she dies!? She should've tried harder to keep Juli away from the occult, shouldn't have let that girl Kat get anywhere near them... and oh, god, Kaya and Juli must be somewhere out here too, right? Are they even still alive?

Her breathing picks up in pace with each panicked thought. But as the handkerchief is offered to her, Saki finds herself trembling even more, and she falls back on her usual defense mechanism - anger.

"And why should I trust what you have to say!?" she exclaims. "I-it's none of your business, anyway!"

Although... there is a part of her that, seeing Serpent's gentle manner and kind smile, feels just a little hopeful. It's foolish to get her hopes up, or trust anything or anyone right now, she knows that - but... could it be that this woman truly wants to help her out...?

Contradiction runs rampant in East Side. It is both easy and hard to find people crying and despairing. It is hard when one stands on the main streets, full of inviting signs to cafes and shops and crowds of people. It is less difficult the moment you step into shadowed alleyways. There despair and sorrow ooze from the shadows and threaten to drown all who find themselves there. It is this that makes the performer pause and notice the girl shedding tears, unnoticed by the crowd.

" Sorry, did my appearance startle you? " Serpent tilts her head with a performative smile. Monster. People liked her on the stage, not among them.

She pulls out a silk handkerchief, offering it to the sobbing girl with a gentle smile. " You're crying. " Obvious, but the gentle tone indicates the fact that Serpent means her comment as an explanation to what she's looking at. " You seem quite panicked as well. Are you lost? Do you need help? "

Everyone needed help, there was so much sorrow in reality. But that would be fixed in due time. It wasn't time yet to put the plan into motion on the grand scheme of things. For now, she could help one thing at a time. Like now.

playing around with two things i love to see explored in horror... first, the concept of eternity - being trapped in in infinite period of time, unable to escape suffering even through death. this is personally THE most horrifying concept imaginable to me, and I used to have an extremely strong phobia/fixation on the fear of hell irl (which still resurfaces occasionally) - so FOR SOME REASON I enjoy horror that touches on it as a result??

something about having stories that acknowledge how horrific the concept really is feels validating, i guess, and really gets me to root for the protagonists. though i do like to imagine that there will be some kind of escape for the protagonists eventually, even if they don't realize it - otherwise i'll get too depressed, lmao...

the second is the idea of urban legends and characters being almost like. controlled by them? like the idea of becoming an urban legend where your nature and character is controlled by other people's beliefs about you, and your existence is dependent upon those legends. it's just a fascinating concept to me, and i REALLY need to watch candyman which i hear deals with those kinds of ideas, whoops.

anyway, how this links to kat... i was thinking of making a verse for her that deals with both these ideas at once?? like... she becomes an urban legend and has to spread her story in order to continue to exist, and if she doesn't/is forgotten entirely, she'll become stuck in an eternal state of suffering. i'm not sure how it would work and it needs a LOT of refining, but. actually, maybe it's even the opposite where being forgotten entirely is what would allow her to be free, so she DOESN'T want her story spread, but she has no choice to act as people expect her to in the legend and kill people when she's "summoned"?? like... the problem is i don't know how she'd get out of this or what her plan could be for how to change how she's perceived. i want her to have SOME plan or again it's too depressing for me LMAO

idk. i'm very like... still in the beginning stages of this concept so i'm not really happy with it yet, but. thinking about symbolism i can link to kat... some of the obvious symbolism in paper lily involves, well, lilies, and birds/crows to an extent, but I feel like those work better for associating with lilith and lacie than kat in some ways???

obviously, kat works very well with cats! but more specifically I enjoy linking her to black cats specifically - with their associations with witchcraft and the occult, I think it works perfectly for her. + bakeneko and other cat related ghosts would work great too!

i also connect her with candles a lot (which are involved in the ritual she does in project kat!) but that last meme i did kind of makes me want to link her to apples as well... maybe to a lesser extent than everything else, but still. candy apples especially, maybe? i headcanon jelly to be one of her favorite desserts, but i don't know like. why. lol

outside of that, maybe some pink things too. and maybe like... sunset/dusk/twilights, ribbon... starfish?? <- maybe not the last one, i'm just biased towards it because i love the ocean JSDFKJDSF
